2025 TokenFlow: Unified Image Tokenizer for Multimodal Understanding and Generation
abstract
We present TokenFlow, a novel unified image tokenizer that bridges the long-standing gap between multimodal understanding and generation. Prior research attempt to employ a single reconstruction-targeted Vector Quantization (VQ) encoder for unifying these two tasks. We observe that understanding and generation require fundamentally different granularities of visual information. This leads to a critical trade-off, particularly compromising performance in multimodal understanding tasks. TokenFlow addresses this challenge through an innovative dual-codebook architecture that decouples semantic and pixel-level feature learning while maintaining their alignment via a shared mapping mechanism. This design enables direct access to both high-level semantic representations crucial for understanding tasks and fine-grained visual features essential for generation through shared indices. Our extensive experiments demonstrate TokenFlow’s superiority across multiple dimensions. Leveraging TokenFlow, we demonstrate for the first time that discrete visual input can surpass LLaVA-1.5 13B in understanding performance, achieving a 7.2% average improvement. For image reconstruction, we achieve a strong FID score of 0.63 at 384×384 resolution. Moreover, TokenFlow establishes state-of-the-art performance in autoregressive image generation with a GenEval score of 0.55 at 256×256 resolution, achieving comparable results to SDXL. Our code and models are released at https://github.com/ByteFlow-Ai/TokenFlow.

2025 XVerse: Consistent Multi-Subject Control of Identity and Semantic Attributes via DiT Modulation
abstract
Achieving fine-grained control over subject identity and semantic attributes (pose, style, lighting) in text-to-image generation, particularly for multiple subjects, often undermines the editability and coherence of Diffusion Transformers (DiTs). Many approaches introduce artifacts or suffer from attribute entanglement. To overcome these challenges, we propose a novel multi-subject controlled generation model XVerse. By transforming reference images into offsets for token-specific text-stream modulation, XVerse allows for precise and independent control for specific subject without disrupting image latents or features. Consequently, XVerse offers high-fidelity, editable multi-subject image synthesis with robust control over individual subject characteristics and semantic attributes. This advancement significantly improves personalized and complex scene generation capabilities.

2024 AvatarVerse: High-Quality & Stable 3D Avatar Creation from Text and Pose
abstract
Creating expressive, diverse and high-quality 3D avatars from highly customized text descriptions and pose guidance is a challenging task, due to the intricacy of modeling and texturing in 3D that ensure details and various styles (realistic, fictional, etc). We present AvatarVerse, a stable pipeline for generating expressive high-quality 3D avatars from nothing but text descriptions and pose guidance. In specific, we introduce a 2D diffusion model conditioned on DensePose signal to establish 3D pose control of avatars through 2D images, which enhances view consistency from partially observed scenarios. It addresses the infamous Janus Problem and significantly stablizes the generation process. Moreover, we propose a progressive high-resolution 3D synthesis strategy, which obtains substantial improvement over the quality of the created 3D avatars. To this end, the proposed AvatarVerse pipeline achieves zero-shot 3D modeling of 3D avatars that are not only more expressive, but also in higher quality and fidelity than previous works. Rigorous qualitative evaluations and user studies showcase AvatarVerse's superiority in synthesizing high-fidelity 3D avatars, leading to a new standard in high-quality and stable 3D avatar creation. 2024 SimpliGuard: Robust Mesh Simplification In the Wild
abstract
Polygonal meshes are widely used to represent complex geometries. However, the increasing complexity of models often leads to large meshes with millions of triangles, raising significant challenges for storage, transmission, and computation. Mesh simplification, a process of reducing the number of triangles in a mesh while preserving its overall shape and important features, has emerged as an indispensable technique to address these challenges. In this work, we focus on the problem of obtaining a visually consistent ultra-low-polygon mesh for complex meshes. Unlike previous methods, we design a robust simplification framework, SimpliGuard, to handle any meshes in the wild. Firstly, a reconstruction module is used to construct a low-polygon mesh with a similar shape but a manifold topology. Then, a texture initialization module is employed to quickly initialize the entire texture map. After that, a differentiable rendering module is utilized to optimize the overall structure and texture details, ensuring high-quality results. For meshes with skeletons, the correctness of motion can be preserved with our designed motion post-processing module. Experimental results demonstrate that SimpliGuard significantly outperforms previous methods and various featured software, including Blender and Simplygon.

2023 Local and Global Logit Adjustments for Long-Tailed Learning
abstract
Multi-expert ensemble models for long-tailed learning typically either learn diverse generalists from the whole dataset or aggregate specialists on different subsets. However, the former is insufficient for tail classes due to the high imbalance factor of the entire dataset, while the latter may bring ambiguity in predicting unseen classes. To address these issues, we propose a novel Local and Global Logit Adjustments (LGLA) method that learns experts with full data covering all classes and enlarges the discrepancy among them by elaborated logit adjustments. LGLA consists of two core components: a Class-aware Logit Adjustment (CLA) strategy and an Adaptive Angular Weighted (AAW) loss. The CLA strategy trains multiple experts which excel at each subset using the Local Logit Adjustment (LLA). It also trains one expert specializing in an inversely long-tailed distribution through Global Logit Adjustment (GLA). Moreover, the AAW loss adopts adaptive hard sample mining with respect to different experts to further improve accuracy. Extensive experiments on popular long-tailed benchmarks manifest the superiority of LGLA over the SOTA methods.

2022 Dressing in the Wild by Watching Dance Videos
abstract
While significant progress has been made in garment transfer, one of the most applicable directions of human-centric image generation, existing works overlook the in-the-wild imagery, presenting severe garment-person mis-alignment as well as noticeable degradation in fine texture details. This paper, therefore, attends to virtual try-on in real-world scenes and brings essential improvements in authenticity and naturalness especially for loose garment (e.g., skirts, formal dresses), challenging poses (e.g., cross arms, bent legs), and cluttered backgrounds. Specifically, we find that the pixel flow excels at handling loose gar-ments whereas the vertex flow is preferred for hard poses, and by combining their advantages we propose a novel generative network called wFlow that can effectively push up garment transfer to in-the-wild context. Moreover, former approaches require paired images for training. Instead, we cut down the laboriousness by working on a newly constructed large-scale video dataset named Dance50k with self-supervised cross-frame training and an online cycle op-timization. The proposed Dance50k can boost real-world virtual dressing by covering a wide variety of garments under dancing poses. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of our w Flow in generating realistic garment transfer results for in-the-wild images without resorting to expensive paired datasets.11Xiaodan Liang is the corresponding author.
