2020 Achievable Sum Rate and Outage Capacity of GFDM Systems with MMSE Receivers
abstract
This paper investigates the achievable sum rate and the outage capacity of generalized frequency division multiplexing systems (GFDMs) with minimum mean-square error (MMSE) receivers over frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channels. To this end, a Gamma-based approximation approach for the probability density function of the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio is presented, based on which accurate analytical formulations for the achievable sum rate and outage capacity are proposed. The accuracy of our analysis is corroborated through Monte Carlo simulation assuming different GFDM parameters. Illustrative numerical results are depicted in order to reveal the impact of the key system parameters, such as the number of subcarriers, number of subsymbols, and roll-off factors, on the overall system performance.

2019 Convergence of MassiveMIMO Frequency Selective Channels
abstract
MassiveMIMO(MaMI) is one of the fiery topics in 5G wireless communications. It is introduced based on the fact that the channel vectors becomes asymptotically orthogonal (as antenna elements tending to infinity). Convergence of frequency selective channel (quasi static block fading) characteristics in terms of favorable propagation and channel hardening (asymptotically orthogonal) conditions are studied using metrics like Eigenvalue Ratio (EVR), Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD) and Diagonal Dominance (DD). Finally, simulations results for convergence metrics EVR, MAD and DD are compared with its limiting behavior. The effect of time delay spread on the channel convergence is studied based on the condition number of channel matrix.

2019 Exact distributions for bit error rate and channel capacity in free-space optical communication
abstract
Bit error rate (BER) and channel capacity are two important metrics to assess the performance of free‐space optical communication (FSOC) systems. Due to the fading of the optical signal owing to the atmospheric effects, these two quantities behave as random variables. Most of the studies in this direction have focused on the calculation of only the average of these quantities. However, since the complete information about a random variable is encoded in its distribution, it is more informative to examine the latter itself. In this work, the authors derive exact probability density function (PDF) expressions for the BER and the channel capacity for an arbitrary irradiance model. In particular, they investigate these exact results for log‐normal, gamma‐gamma, and K distributions. For the BER analysis, they focus on the binary phase shift keying and quadrature phase shift keying modulation schemes. The authors' analytical reults are found to be in conformity with Monte Carlo simulations. The exact PDFs of the BER and the channel capacity reveal that there are several instances when the average is unable to capture the actual behaviour of these quantities, and therefore one must be careful in drawing conclusions based on the first moment only.

2018 New approximation for pdf of K- distribution: analytical study of QoS parameters in free space optical communication
abstract
A new approximate expression for the probability density function (pdf) of K‐distribution is proposed. The approximate pdf is found to be in good agreement with the exact analytical closed‐form expression over the desired range of scintillation index lying between 2 and 3. Employing the proposed pdf, the expression in respect of two of the QoS measures of fade probability and bit error rate (BER) valid under various modulation schemes is given. Using the generalised expression of BER, plots under ON–OFF keying and binary phase shift keying modulation schemes are shown. The resulting expressions provide a better understanding in contrast to the exact results obtained in terms of Meijer G functions. Numerical computations are carried out to demonstrate the efficacy of approximate results.

2017 Approximate Sum Rate for Integer-Forcing Receiver
abstract
The computation of the achievable sum rate for integer-forcing (IF) linear receivers requires the search for the shortest set of linearly independent lattice vectors (SIVP). Since SIVP is considered an NP-hard problem, we propose two approximations to the IF achievable sum rate. The first approximation is suitable for systems with two antennas at both transmitter and receiver (2 × 2 arrays) and is based on the analysis of the Gauss-Lagrange algorithm. The second approximation considers n × n array systems and is based on Minkowski's second theorem. Assuming a block-fading channel with Rayleigh distribution, we have derived the exact probability density function of both approximations. We have used these results to obtain the mean sum-rate, outage probability, and outage rate for uncorrelated fading channels. For the second approximation, the effect of channel correlation on these metrics was also analyzed. An exhaustive series of simulations have been conducted to assess the tightness and robustness of both solutions.

2010 Random matrix model for Nakagami-Hoyt fading
abstract
Random matrix model for the Nakagami-q(Hoyt) fading in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication channels with arbitrary number of transmitting and receiving antennas is considered. The joint probability density for the eigenvalues ofHfH(orHHf), whereHis the channel matrix, is shown to correspond to the Laguerre crossover ensemble of random matrices and is given in terms of a Pfaffian. Exact expression for the marginal density of eigenvalues is obtained as a series consisting of associated Laguerre polynomials. This is used to study the effect of fading on the Shannon channel capacity. Exact expressions for higher order density correlation functions are also given which can be used to study the distribution of channel capacity.
