| 2002 | A reverse link outer-loop power control algorithm for cdma2000 1xEV systemsabstractReverse link outer-loop power control (ROLPC) algorithms developed for voice systems operate based on a continuous stream of packets (CRC events) to adjust the power control setpoint. Due to burstiness of data traffic a mechanism to distinguish between idle periods and data transmissions is necessary in systems optimized for data communications. In addition, such algorithms are unable to track changes in channel conditions during long idle periods. The proposed algorithm is designed to conservatively adapt to the channel in the absence of packets, with fast convergence at the start of a transmission. A parameterized algorithm is described with analysis and simulation results to justify baseline parameters. The performance of the algorithm for continuous and bursty TCP/IP traffic is presented. | 2002 | Reverse link capacity and coverage improvement for CDMA cellular systems using polarization and spatial diversityabstractThis paper explores the benefits of increased diversity order using spatially separated, polarized antennas at the base station receiver of a CDMA cellular system. Field tests are conducted in real mobile wireless environments. A conventional dual diversity receiver is compared with one that implements four-way diversity combining using spatially separated cross-polarized antennas. Several measured quantities are logged at the base station receiver and the mobile transmitter during a packet data connection at fixed data rate. Existing published results that explore polarization diversity focus on correlation measurements between received signal polarization components. The emphasis of the present study is to quantify reverse link capacity and coverage improvements for a CDMA cellular network as a result of exploiting polarization as an additional source of diversity at the base station receiver. | 1997 | A per-survivor phase acquisition and tracking algorithm for detection of TCM signals with phase jitter and frequency errorabstractIn this letter we investigate the performance of a per-survivor phase estimation algorithm for detection of trellis-coded modulation (TCM) signals in the presence of phase jitter and frequency error. Phase and frequency estimates are derived based on a second-order phase-locked loop (PLL)-like algorithm. A simplified transient and steady-state analysis of the algorithm recursive equations is derived. A heuristic blind phase acquisition scheme is proposed and shown to achieve good results. Computer simulations are used to compare the algorithm's performance to other methods described in the literature. Eduardo S. Esteves, Raimundo Sampaio Neto |
