| 2022 | Usability Evaluation of a Community-led Innovation Mobile AppabstractDigital media can facilitate collaborative processes among local agents, value endogenous resources, and promote assets associated with territory. This article presents the results of a study concerning the development and validation of a mobile app for promoting the relationship among agents of the Portuguese Centro region’s communities/entities. This paper focuses on the results of a heuristic evaluation of the mobile app carried out with two groups of experts in Digital Technologies, Tourism, Health, and Well-Being, besides providing an overview of the mobile app that was developed and a theoretical background regarding community-led innovation, usability, and heuristics. For the CeNTER app prototype evaluation itself, the use of Nielsen's heuristics, a MATCH-MED scale, together with a Think-Aloud Protocol allowed us to improve its usability. This article contributes to a reflection about the evaluation of mobile apps in the scope of territorial-based innovation initiatives, engaging its stakeholders in the process. André C. | 2022 | Supporting the Creation and Evaluation of Interactive Touch Kiosks Designed for the Elderly: A Compilation of Requisites Acknowledging Physical and Psycho-sociological Age-related ChangesabstractAiming cognitive stimulation and physical exercise, interactive touch kiosks designed for the elderly seem to be promising options to promote active aging, ensuring e-health and well-being services. They need to be created and improved according to the elderly population's real needs; however, recommendations to develop these solutions are scattered in several guidelines and standards. In this study standards regarding physical and psycho-sociological age-related changes, such as vision, hearing, cognition, communication, gross and fine motor skills were gathered; physical and social factors were also considered. A total of 107 items were found, and the following categories were defined: Terminals, Interface, Content, and Other. The proposal can be used as: a) a list to guide the creation of services and systems; b) a grid to be color coded according to the level of problems found while usability evaluations are being conducted. This is a contribution to experts who can easily recognize the items that need to be improved in the services and systems, to better support the experience of the elderly user. Carla V. | 2022 | Interaction Devices as Assistive Technology: Current Practices about Evaluation MethodologiesabstractA significant challenge on Assistive Technology (AT) relies on the interaction devices’ evaluation phase. Generally, the gap between users and devices is revealed during the use. This fact highlights the relevance of discussing these barriers early in the design process, mainly, in the evaluation phase. This article explores current practices of evaluation methodologies for AT interaction devices, both considering the usage of computers and TV-sets. Two research stages were performed to achieve this objective: a systematic mapping study of AT evaluation methodologies, and field research in Portugal, with experts in AT Evaluation and end-users. This last step was done through semi-structured interviews, whose results passed by a content analysis process. The findings from these researches suggest that there are vital dimensions that should be addressed when evaluating AT. Firstly, qualification issues remain most important, especially concerning to the developers’ awareness of end-user needs as, for example, difficulty in computer access. Other important points are the economic problems, involved in the acquisition of AT interaction devices, and the emotional issues related to using these devices. Finally, the article concludes with a discussion on directions for evaluation methodologies of AT interaction devices.
