| 2025 | Sustainability Through Education: A Competency Development FrameworkabstractThis paper presents an educational framework developed by the Interreg SIAT H2GreenFuture and Interreg ITAT EDU-CIRC projects to promote sustainable technologies and address competency gaps. The Competence Development Framework (CDF) focuses on sustainability, decarbonization, hydrogen, and fuel cell technology across basic, intermediate, and advanced levels. Utilizing the ADDIE model, the training emphasizes remote and problem-based learning with practical applications in learning factories and laboratories. Innovative teaching methods like experiential learning and simulations enhance engagement. Pilot modules at the bachelor's level highlight education's critical role in the energy transition. | 2024 | Work in Progress: Setting up a Control Lab Experiment for an Exciting Learning Experience in Control EngineeringabstractThis paper focuses on improving control engineering education through an innovative approach using an inverted pendulum experiment. It emphasises the central role of control engineering in various industries and the importance of the inverted pendulum in educational contexts. The study explores a hands-on approach to the establishment of control laboratories: the design and construction of a laboratory model with student involvement to maximise student learning. Using contemporary tools such as CAD and 3D printing, the project includes mathematical modelling for simulation and control design, as well as prototype development. The paper also highlights the importance of integrating an intensive self-study preparation phase and laboratory exercises into the learning process, using a complete simulation model to test controllers during the design phase without physical laboratory equipment. | 2024 | WIP: Building an Education Ecosystem for Next Generation Microelectronics Experts in Green and Circular Economy with Digitally-Supported Teaching Methods for Sustainable Chips and Applications (EU Project GreenChips-EDU)abstractThis work in progress innovative practice paper intends to report on the outline and the ongoing progress of the EU-project GreenChips-EDU, which has been started in October 2023, and intends to fundamentally redesign educational microelectronics programs especially but not limited to students and professionals. One of the major goals is the design of a new microelectronics master program to which six European universities are contributing. The contents of this program will be substantially enhanced with green electronics contents innovative teaching methods. Other work will be done in the field of a new MBA program, self-standing modules for professionals, and a new microelectronics bachelor designed by one university of applied sciences. | 2023 | Work in Progress: A Short Learning Program in Electronic Engineering Using Remote LabsabstractThis work-in-progress paper describes the design and development of a Short learning Program in the field of Electronics, with the goal of enrolling graduates of this program in a shortened regular degree program. The program will be offered fully online and self-paced to make entry as easy and attractive as possible for working professionals. The novelty in this course will be that hands-on training via remote laboratories will also be offered. The paper provides an overview of the program's design, remote laboratories, integration with the university's existing curriculum, and ensuring review of the content learned. | 2023 | Work in Progress: Steps to green future with $H_{2}$ technologies - enhancement of a teaching conceptabstractHydrogen (H2), hydrogen technologies and green energy are topics which are intensively discussed in the near past. Nevertheless, today's education in general often lacks of a sufficient emphasis on H2topics. However, the Europe's goals for climate and energy as outlined in the European Decarbonization Strategy consider these energy-form as central component. To build expertise in this area and establish a hydrogen technology sector, it is essential to create collaborations between businesses, R&D centers, and higher educational institutions. This requires a commitment to offering educational opportunities in this technological field, which is considered a necessary step towards achieving the desired outcome. Therefore, launching novel education in this field is one of the important tasks, and considered as a necessary requirement to reach the desired goal. In the context of the SI-AT Interreg Project H2GreenTECH, a teaching program has been implemented to provide fundamental knowledge about hydrogen technologies. The authors of this paper, discuss extensions and improvements based on the practical implementation of the educational program on hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. Nevertheless, as a part of the Systems Design curriculum this course includes theoretical sessions on background knowledge and system integration of fuel cell systems as well as laboratory sessions for hands-on experience. The successful delivery of the course to student groups in Systems Design demonstrates the viability of the concept. Feedback from students will be used to further refine the course, including expanding the laboratory component and adapting it for a Bachelor's program.
