2022 Preempting Flaky Tests via Non-Idempotent-Outcome Tests
abstract
Regression testing can greatly help in software development, but it can be seriously undermined by flaky tests, which can both pass and fail, seemingly nondeterministically, on the same code commit. Flaky tests are an emerging topic in both research and industry. Prior work has identified multiple categories of flaky tests, developed techniques for detecting these flaky tests, and analyzed some detected flaky tests.

2017 A Parallel Transportation Management and Control System for Bus Rapid Transit Using the ACP Approach
abstract
Bus rapid transit (BRT) has been proved to be an effective tool to improve mass transit services. However, BRT's adaptive operations like management and scheduling under different scenarios are too complicated to implement using traditional methods. The ACP approach, which is based on holism and complex system theory and consists of artificial systems (A), computational experiments (C) and parallel execution (P), offers an efficient new method to cope with these complex systems, including BRT. In this paper, the parallel transportation management and control system for BRT (PTMS-BRT) is presented, which is designed and implemented using the ACP approach. PTMS-BRT integrates such functions as BRT's monitoring, warning, forecasting, incident management, and real-time scheduling, to provide its operations smoother, safer, more efficient, and reliable. It has been piloted successfully in Guangzhou BRT to demonstrate it as another successful example of parallel transportation systems.

2017 A Real-Time Passenger Flow Estimation and Prediction Method for Urban Bus Transit Systems
abstract
Bus service is the most important function of public transportation. Besides the major goal of carrying passengers around, providing a comfortable travel experience for passengers is also a key business consideration. To provide a comfortable travel experience, effective bus scheduling is essential. Traditional approaches are based on fixed timetables. The wide adoptions of smart card fare collection systems and GPS tracing systems in public transportation provide new opportunities for using the data-driven approaches to fit the demand of passengers. In this paper, we associate these two independent data sets to derive the passengers' origin and destination. As the data are real time, we build a system to forecast the passenger flow in real time. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first paper, which implements a system utilizing smart card data and GPS data to forecast the passenger flow in real time.

2017 Estimation of Passenger Route Choice Pattern Using Smart Card Data for Complex Metro Systems
abstract
Metro systems play an important role in meeting the demand for urban transportation in large cities. The understanding of passenger route choice is critical for public transit management. The wide deployment of automated fare collection (AFC) systems opens up a new opportunity. However, only each trip's tap-in and tap-out time stamp and stations can be directly obtained from AFC system records; the train and route chosen by a passenger are unknown, information necessary to solve our problem. While existing methods work well in some specific situations, they hardly work for complicated situations. In this paper, we propose a solution that needs no additional equipment or human involvement than the AFC systems. We develop a probabilistic model that can estimate from empirical analysis how the passenger flows are dispatched to different routes and trains. We validate our approach using a large-scale data set collected from the Shenzhen Metro system. The measured results provide us with useful input when building the passenger path choice model.

2016 Vehicle License Plate Recognition Based on Extremal Regions and Restricted Boltzmann Machines
abstract
This paper presents a vehicle license plate recognition method based on character-specific extremal regions (ERs) and hybrid discriminative restricted Boltzmann machines (HDRBMs). First, coarse license plate detection (LPD) is performed by top-hat transformation, vertical edge detection, morphological operations, and various validations. Then, character-specific ERs are extracted as character regions in license plate candidates. Followed by suitable selection of ERs, the segmentation of characters and coarse-to-fine LPD are achieved simultaneously. Finally, an offline trained pattern classifier of HDRBM is applied to recognize the characters. The proposed method is robust to illumination changes and weather conditions during 24 h or one day. Experimental results on thorough data sets are reported to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in complex traffic environments.

2015 Traffic Flow Prediction With Big Data: A Deep Learning Approach
abstract
Accurate and timely traffic flow information is important for the successful deployment of intelligent transportation systems. Over the last few years, traffic data have been exploding, and we have truly entered the era of big data for transportation. Existing traffic flow prediction methods mainly use shallow traffic prediction models and are still unsatisfying for many real-world applications. This situation inspires us to rethink the traffic flow prediction problem based on deep architecture models with big traffic data. In this paper, a novel deep-learning-based traffic flow prediction method is proposed, which considers the spatial and temporal correlations inherently. A stacked autoencoder model is used to learn generic traffic flow features, and it is trained in a greedy layerwise fashion. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that a deep architecture model is applied using autoencoders as building blocks to represent traffic flow features for prediction. Moreover, experiments demonstrate that the proposed method for traffic flow prediction has superior performance.

2014 Theme Classification and Analysis of Core Articles Published in IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems From 2010 to 2013
abstract
In this paper, we are trying to find the developmental tendencies and study hotspots of intelligent transportation systems technologies by theme classification and analysis of core articles from all papers published in IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems during 2010-2013. First, we classify theme categories by co-word analysis with different research domains and obtain 12 themes that include vehicle control technology, modeling and simulation, image processing, etc. Second, we find research focuses and directions of these themes by analyzing the trends of the article numbers published in each year of the TOP 5 themes. Finally, we identify TOP 5 core articles of these 12 themes and obtain their specific study hotspots by sorting the citations without self-citations of the articles in the Web of Science.
