| 2021 | Toxic Code Snippets on Stack OverflowabstractOnline code clones are code fragments that are copied from software projects or online sources to Stack Overflow as examples. Due to an absence of a checking mechanism after the code has been copied to Stack Overflow, they can become toxic code snippets, e.g., they suffer from being outdated or violating the original software license. We present a study of online code clones on Stack Overflow and their toxicity by incorporating two developer surveys and a large-scale code clone detection. A survey of 201 high-reputation Stack Overflow answerers (33 percent response rate) showed that 131 participants (65 percent) have ever been notified of outdated code and 26 of them (20 percent) rarely or never fix the code. 138 answerers (69 percent) never check for licensing conflicts between their copied code snippets and Stack Overflow's CC BY-SA 3.0. A survey of 87 Stack Overflow visitors shows that they experienced several issues from Stack Overflow answers: mismatched solutions, outdated solutions, incorrect solutions, and buggy code. 85 percent of them are not aware of CC BY-SA 3.0 license enforced by Stack Overflow, and 66 percent never check for license conflicts when reusing code snippets. Our clone detection found online clone pairs between 72,365 Java code snippets on Stack Overflow and 111 open source projects in the curated Qualitas corpus. We analysed 2,289 non-trivial online clone candidates. Our investigation revealed strong evidence that 153 clones have been copied from a Qualitas project to Stack Overflow. We found 100 of them (66 percent) to be outdated, of which 10 were buggy and harmful for reuse. Furthermore, we found 214 code snippets that could potentially violate the license of their original software and appear 7,112 times in 2,427 GitHub projects. | 2016 | Calibration, positioning and tracking in a refractive and reflective sceneabstractWe propose a framework for calibration, positioning and tracking in a scene viewed by multiple cameras, through a flat refractive surface and one or several flat reflective walls. Refractions are explicitly modeled by Snell's law and reflections are handled using virtual points. A novel bundle adjustment framework is introduced for solving the nonlinear equations of refractions and the linear equations of reflections, which in addition enables optimization for calibration and positioning. The numerical accuracy of the solutions is investigated on synthetic data, and the influence of noise in image points for several settings of refractive and reflective planes is presented. The performance of the framework is evaluated on real data and confirms the validity of the physical model. Examples of how to use the framework to back-project image coordinates, forward-project scene points and estimate the refractive and reflective planes are presented. Lastly, an application of the system on real data from a biological experiment on small aquatic organisms is presented. Tobias Palmér, Giuseppe Bianco, Mikael T. | 2014 | Spin Axis Precession of LARES Measured by Satellite Laser RangingabstractSatellite laser ranging (SLR) is an efficient technique to measure spin parameters of the fully passive satellite LARES. Analysis of the laser range measurements gives information about the spin rate of the spacecraft and the orientation of its spin axis. A frequency analysis applied to the SLR data indicates an exponential increase of the satellite's spin period: T = 11.7612 ·exp(0.00293327 ·D) , RMS = 0.115 s, where D is in days since launch. The initial spin period of LARES is calculated from the spin observations during the first 30 days after launch and is equal to T0= 11.7131, RMS = 0.073 s. The spin axis of the satellite is precessing around the initial coordinates of right ascension RAinitial= 186.5°, RMSRA= 3.1°, and Declination Decinitial = - 73.0°, RMSDec= 0.7°(J2000 inertial reference frame), with a period of 211.7 days. The precession of the spin axis may be responsible for the observed oscillation of the slowing down rate: the spin half-life period (the time after which the spin period has doubled) varies between 209 and 267 days. The measured spin parameters of LARES are compared-and show good agreement-with the theoretical predictions given by the satellite spin model. Information about the spin parameters of LARES is necessary for the accurate modeling of the forces and torques that are affecting the orbital motion of the satellite. | 2014 | Attitude and Spin Period of Space Debris Envisat Measured by Satellite Laser RangingabstractThe Environmental Satellite (Envisat) mission was finished on April 8, 2012, and since that time, the attitude of the satellite has undergone significant changes. During the International Laser Ranging Service campaign, the Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) stations have performed the range measurements to the satellite that allowed determination of the attitude and the spin period of Envisat during seven months of 2013. The spin axis of the satellite is stable within the radial coordinate system (RCS; fixed with the orbit) and is pointing in the direction opposite to the normal vector of the orbital plane in such a way that the spin axis makes an angle of 61.86° with the nadir vector and 90.69° with the along-track vector. The offset between the symmetry axis of the retroreflector panel and the spin axis of the satellite is 2.52 m and causes the meter-scale oscillations of the range measurements between the ground SLR system and the satellite during a pass. Envisat rotates in the counterclockwise (CCW) direction, with an inertial period of 134.74 s (September 25, 2013), and the spin period increases by 36.7 ms/day.
