2024 Training Object Detectors from Scratch: An Empirical Study in the Era of Vision Transformer
abstract
Abstract Modeling in computer vision has long been dominated by convolutional neural networks (CNNs). Recently, in light of the excellent performance of self-attention mechanism in the language field, transformers tailored for visual data have drawn significant attention and triumphed over CNNs in various vision tasks. These vision transformers heavily rely on large-scale pre-training to achieve competitive accuracy, which not only hinders the freedom of architectural design in downstream tasks like object detection, but also causes learning bias and domain mismatch in the fine-tuning stages. To this end, we aim to get rid of the “pre-train and fine-tune” paradigm of vision transformer and train transformer based object detector from scratch. Some earlier works in the CNNs era have successfully trained CNNs based detectors without pre-training, unfortunately, their findings do not generalize well when the backbone is switched from CNNs to a vision transformer. Instead of proposing a specific vision transformer based detector, in this work, our goal is to reveal the insights of training vision transformer based detectors from scratch. In particular, we expect those insights to help other researchers and practitioners, and inspire more interesting research in other fields, such as remote sensing, visual-linguistic pre-training, etc. One of the key findings is that both architectural changes and more epochs play critical roles in training vision transformer based detectors from scratch. Experiments on the MS COCO dataset demonstrate that vision transformer based detectors trained from scratch can also achieve similar performance to their counterparts with ImageNet pre-training.

2024 HVCMM: A Hybrid-View Abstractive Model of Automatic Summary Generation for Teaching
abstract
With the continuous development of educational informatization, more and more emerging technologies are applied in teaching activities. These technologies provide massive and multidimensional information for teaching research, but at the same time, the information obtained by teachers and students presents an explosive increase. Extracting the core content of the class record text through text summarization technology to generate concise class minutes can significantly improve the efficiency of teachers and students to obtain information. This article proposes a hybrid-view class minutes automatic generation model (HVCMM). The HVCMM model uses a multilevel encoding strategy to encode the long text of the input class records to avoid memory overflow in the calculation after the long text is input into the single-level encoder. The HVCMM model uses the method of coreference resolution and adds role vectors to solve the problem that the excessive number of participants in the class may lead to confusion about the referential logic. Machine learning algorithms are used to analyze the topic and Section of the sentence to capture structural information. We test the HVCMM model on the Chinese class minutes dataset (CCM) and the augmented multiparty interaction (AMI) dataset, and the results show that the HVCMM model outperforms other baseline models on the ROUGE metric. With the help of the HVCMM model, teachers can improve the efficiency of reflection after class and improve the teaching level. Students can review the key content to strengthen their understanding of what they have learned with the help of the class minutes automatically generated by the model.

2023 Learning Implicit Entity-object Relations by Bidirectional Generative Alignment for Multimodal NER
abstract
The challenge posed by multimodal named entity recognition (MNER) is mainly two-fold: (1) bridging the semantic gap between text and image and (2) matching the entity with its associated object in image. Existing methods fail to capture the implicit entity-object relations, due to the lack of corresponding annotation. In this paper, we propose a bidirectional generative alignment method named BGA-MNER to tackle these issues. Our BGA-MNER consists of image2text and text2image generation with respect to entity-salient content in two modalities. It jointly optimizes the bidirectional reconstruction objectives, leading to aligning the implicit entity-object relations under such direct and powerful constraints. Furthermore, image-text pairs usually contain unmatched components which are noisy for generation. A stage-refined context sampler is proposed to extract the matched cross-modal content for generation. Extensive experiments on two benchmarks demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance without image input during inference.

2021 Learning-Based Detection for Malicious Android Application Using Code Vectorization
abstract
The malicious APK (Android Application Package) makers use some techniques such as code obfuscation and code encryption to avoid existing detection methods, which poses new challenges for accurate virus detection and makes it more and more difficult to detect the malicious code. A report indicates that a new malicious app for Android is created every 10 seconds. To combat this serious malware activity, a scalable malware detection approach is needed, which can effectively and efficiently identify the malware apps. Common static detection methods often rely on Hash matching and analysis of viruses, which cannot quickly detect new malicious Android applications and their variants. In this paper, a malicious Android application detection method is proposed, which is implemented by the deep network fusion model. The hybrid model only needs to use the sample training model to achieve high accuracy in the identification of the malicious applications, which is more suitable for the detection of the new malicious Android applications than the existing methods. This method extracts the static features in the core code of the Android application by decompiling APK files, then performs code vectorization processing, and uses the deep learning network for classification and discrimination. Our experiments with a data set containing 10,170 apps show that the decisions from the hybrid model can increase the malware detection rate significantly on a real device, which verifies the superiority of this method in the detection of malicious codes.

2013 The state of the art of risk assessment and management for information systems
abstract
Risk assessment and management for information system are very important for assuring the system security. It requires not only careful but also systematic analysis of threat and vulnerability information. Depending on the analysis result, we could determine the extent to which events could adversely impact the organization and the likelihood that such events will occur. Under FISMA(Federal Information Security Management Act) of 2002, the Information Technology Laboratory (ITL) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) develops a series of publications to protect the information system. In this paper, we give the outline of the state of the art of the risk assessment and management in the ITL at NIST. Some fundamental concepts and model are introduced to interpret the process of risk assessment. Besides, the relationship among the security related publications corresponding with the risk management is analyzed and concluded.
