| 2025 | Determinants of ChatGPT Use and its Impact on Learning Performance: An Integrated Model of BRT and TPBabstractThe rapid emergence of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) heralds a significant shift, opening new frontiers in how education is delivered. This groundbreaking wave of technological advancement is poised to redefine traditional learning, promising to enhance the educational landscape with unprecedented levels of personalized learning and accessibility. Despite GAI’s progressive infiltration into various educational strata, limited empirical research exists on its impact on students’ learning performance. Drawing on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and Behavioral Reasoning Theory (BRT), this study investigates the determinants affecting students’ use of ChatGPT and its influence on learning performance. The data were collected from 357 university students and were analyzed using the PLS-SEM technique. The results supported the role of ChatGPT in positively affecting students’ learning performance. In addition, the results showed that reasons for and against adoption are pivotal in shaping students’ attitudes. ChatGPT use is found to be significantly affected by attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. Besides the theoretical contributions, the findings offer various implications for stakeholders and underscore the necessity for educational institutions to foster a conducive environment for GAI adoption, addressing ethical and technical concerns to optimize learning experiences. | 2024 | Drivers and Barriers Affecting Metaverse Adoption: A Systematic Review, Theoretical Framework, and Avenues for Future ResearchabstractThe Metaverse holds immense potential for individuals, organizations, and society, providing immersive and innovative experiences. However, its adoption is a complex process influenced by various factors yet to be thoroughly understood. Therefore, this systematic review aims to identify and classify the drivers and barriers affecting Metaverse adoption. Of the 279 papers gathered from the Web of Science and Scopus databases, 29 studies fulfilled the eligibility requirements and underwent a detailed analysis. The identified factors in the selected studies were classified into distinct categories, including motivational and psychological factors, social factors, technological and Metaverse-related characteristics, learning experience-related factors, inhibitors, privacy and security factors, conditional factors, quality factors, economic-related factors, and personalization and immersion-related factors. We have then proposed a comprehensive Metaverse adoption framework based on this taxonomy to guide future empirical studies. We have also suggested several agendas as a road map for future research on Metaverse adoption. Based on these findings, the review presents several theoretical contributions and practical implications for Metaverse developers and marketers. Mohammed A. | 2024 | Determinants of Intention to Use ChatGPT for Educational Purposes: Findings from PLS-SEM and fsQCAabstractChatGPT can revolutionize education by enhancing student engagement and making learning more personalized. Drawing on UTAUT2, this study investigated determinants of intention to use ChatGPT for educational purposes. Data were gathered from 406 Malaysian students and analyzed using a hybrid approach including “partial least squares” (PLS) and “fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis” (fsQCA). PLS showed that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, hedonic motivation, and learning value significantly influence the intention to use ChatGPT. Furthermore, we found that personal innovativeness and information accuracy negatively moderate the associations between ChatGPT use and its determinants. While PLS demonstrated that social influence, facilitating conditions, and habit do not affect ChatGPT use, fsQCA revealed that all factors might affect the intention to use ChatGPT. fsQCA suggested that eight combinations of factors may lead to high ChatGPT use. The results hold various implications for ChatGPT developers, instructors, and universities and provide insights for accelerating ChatGPT adoption. | 2023 | Determinants of Intention to Use e-Wallet: Personal Innovativeness and Propensity to Trust as ModeratorsabstractThis study aims to investigate the determinants of intention to use e-wallets. Drawing on the technology acceptance model (TAM), the conceptual framework was developed. The study extends the TAM in the context of e-wallets, by testing the influences of product-related factors namely perceived compatibility, perceived risk, and perceived emotions and investigating the moderating impacts of personal innovativeness and propensity to trust. To conduct an empirical study, the data were collected from Malaysian individuals with no experience with e-wallets using an online survey. Data from 374 participants were obtained and analyzed using the partial least squares technique. The results showed that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, perceived risk, and perceived emotions significantly influence intention to adopt e-wallet. Although personal innovativeness negatively moderates the effect of perceived compatibility on intention to adopt, it moderates positively the influence of perceived emotion. Propensity to trust moderates positively the impacts of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use and moderates negatively the influence of compatibility on intention to use e-wallets. The study extends the literature by extending the TAM in the e-wallet context and testing the moderating effect of personal innovativeness and propensity to trust. The findings enable e-wallet service providers, marketers, and policymakers to consider target market and personal-related factors in developing an e-wallet platform and promoting its usage. | 2021 | Using smartwatches for fitness and health monitoring: the UTAUT2 combined with threat appraisal as moderatorsabstractRecent advancements in smartwatch technology have led to several applications in continuous fitness and health monitoring. Considering the benefits of smartwatches, their low level of usage for fitness and health monitoring purposes, and the limited understanding of determinants of their usage, this study advances the body of knowledge by developing an innovative and comprehensive research model that integrates the extended unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT2) with perceived vulnerability and perceived severity as moderators. The model was tested using partial least squares (PLS), in a quantitative study with data from 271 respondents from Malaysia. The results showed that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions and hedonic motivation have positive impacts on behavioural intentions towards using smartwatches for health and fitness monitoring. Perceived vulnerability moderates positively the impacts of effort expectancy. Perceived abstract severity moderates positively the impacts of social influence and negatively the influence of hedonic motivation. The findings provide useful insights for smartwatch technology developers, marketers and managers in developing more effective devices and strategies and consequently promoting smartwatches as health monitoring devices. These outcomes extend the UTAUT2 and provide new insights into drivers of the use of smartwatches for fitness and health monitoring. | 2021 | Personality traits, psychological well-being, Facebook addiction, health and performance: testing their relationshipsabstractThe purpose of this study was to test the indirect effect of Facebook addiction on performance through physical and social health. Furthermore, the moderating effect of psychological well-being on the relationships between personality traits and Facebook addiction was investigated. Data were collected from 301 Malaysians via an online survey. The data were analysed using the partial least squares technique. The results showed that the Big Five personality dimensions of conscientiousness, openness to experience, extraversion, and neuroticism are significantly related to Facebook addiction. Our results confirmed the significant effects of Facebook addiction on performance and on physical and social health and also the mediating role of physical health in the relationship between Facebook addiction and performance. Furthermore, our results revealed that psychological well-being moderates the effects of certain personality dimensions on Facebook addiction. The implications of these findings are discussed, and directions for future research are offered. Davoud Nikbin, Mohammad Iranmanesh, Behzad Foroughi |
