| 2025 | Updated Experiences with Using ASPICE 4.0 for Safety Audits and Interfacing Safety AssessmentsabstractThe SOQRATES working group as an innovation task force of Tier 1 and OEMs have elaborated in the last 13 years experiences about combining ASPICE assessments with ISO 26262 functional safety audits and assessments. In a recent update in 2024 the working group mapped now all ISO 26262 objectives from parts 2,3,4,5,6,8,9 of the ISO 26262 to the different ASPICE practices. This work was then also integrated into the assessment portal Capability Adviser and used in assessments. This paper describes this newest mapping and also outlines more exactly where ASPICE and functional safety are overlapping and which level of detail or parts an ASPI E assessment would not cover and an additional safety assessment report is required. | 2023 | Towards a security-driven automotive development lifecycleabstractAbstract Cybersecurity has become one of the most crucial challenges in the automotive development lifecycle. The upcoming ISO/SAE 21434 standard provides only a generic framework that is insufficient to derive concrete design methods. This article proposes an actionable cybersecurity development lifecycle model that provides concrete action and work product guidance aligned with the ISO/SAE 21434 and Automotive SPICE® extension for cybersecurity. The model has been inspired by action research in “next” industry practice pilot projects, which ensures that it is actionable. It has been augmented by insights gained from literature research in cybersecurity development for embedded systems. The proposed lifecycle model complements the ISO/SAE 21434 standard and provides the basis for the company‐specific process and practice specifications. It has been validated through the integration of cybersecurity‐related aspects in an electric power steering system. A core characteristic of the model is the central role of threat modeling, vulnerability analyses, and cybersecurity requirements derivation on both system and subsystem levels. Without concrete practice guidelines, the ISO/SAE 21434 is very difficult to understand and apply at this stage. This contribution aims to fill this gap through a model inspired by cutting‐edge embedded cybersecurity practices interpreted for the current and near‐future automotive electronic architectures. | 2023 | Experiences with the automotive SPICE for cybersecurity assessment model and toolsabstractAbstract In August 2021 the ISO 21434:2021 standard for Road vehicles—Cybersecurity Engineering has been published. At the same time the blue book from VDA (Verein der Deutschen Automobilgesellschaft; German Automotive Association) for Automotive SPICE cybersecurity assessments has been released. In addition in the period September–December 2021 the training material for iNTACS (INTernational Assessor Certification Schema) certified Automotive SPICE for cybersecurity assessors has been developed. Since February 2022 the upgrade training of assessors worldwide has started. Beside the ASPICE (Automotive SPICE) for cybersecurity blue book also a red book from VDA has been published. The red book describes the questions to check in an ACSMS (Automotive CyberSecurity Management System) audit. This paper explains the main strategy and content for ASPICE for Cybersecurity assessments and how such assessments are integrated to the overall ACSMS strategy. Also, the paper outlines an example method and tool used in ASPICE for cybersecurity assessments and how such assessment results will look like. | 2022 | Towards Digital Twin-enabled DevOps for CPS providing Architecture-Based Service Adaptation & Verification at RuntimeabstractBackground: Industrial Product-Service Systems (IPSS) denote a service-oriented way of providing access to cyber-physical systems' (CPS) capabilities. The design of such systems bears high risk due to uncertainty in requirements related to service function and behavior, operation environments, and evolving customer needs. Such risks and uncertainties are well known in the IT sector, where DevOps principles ensure continuous system improvement through reliable and frequent delivery processes. A modular and service-oriented system architecture complements these processes to facilitate IT system adaptation and evolution. | 2021 | DDI: A novel technology and innovation model for dependable, collaborative and autonomous systemsabstractDigital transformation fundamentally changes established practices in public and private sector. Hence, it represents an opportunity to improve the value creation processes (e.g., “industry 4.0”) and to rethink how to address customers' needs such as “data-driven business models” and “Mobility-as-a-Service”. Dependable, collaborative and autonomous systems are playing a central role in this transformation process. Furthermore, the emergence of data-driven approaches combined with autonomous systems will lead to new business models and market dynamics. Innovative approaches to reorganise the value creation ecosystem, to enable distributed engineering of dependable systems and to answer urgent questions such as liability will be required. Consequently, digital transformation requires a comprehensive multi-stakeholder approach which properly balances technology, ecosystem and business innovation. Targets of this paper are (a) to introduce digital transformation and the role of / opportunities provided by autonomous systems, (b) to introduce Digital Depednability Identities (DDI) - a technology for dependability engineering of collaborative, autonomous CPS, and (c) to propose an appropriate agile approach for innovation management based on business model innovation and co-entrepreneurship. | 2021 | Measuring trust in automated driving using a multi-level approach to human factors*abstractAs the driving is shifting towards automation, the maximization of related benefits would profit from improved user acceptance of the new technology. Studies suggest a strong connection between acceptance and trust in technical solutions. We investigate the improvement of user trust to driving automation through demonstrations carried out in a sophisticated driving simulator. The study correlates subjective data with objective psychophysiological measurements. The multi-factorial and multivariate analysis of variance investigates the influence of learning effects and pre-experience with advanced driver assistance systems on trust. Results show improvement in trust through user interaction with a human-machine interface of the demonstrated AD system, hence illustrating the relevance of human-centered development processes. The conclusion is supported by the observation of driver cardiac signals. Philipp Clément, Herbert Danzinger, Omar Veledar, Clemens Könczöl, Georg Macher, Arno Eichberger |

| 2020 | A Preliminary View on Automotive Cyber Security Management SystemsabstractCyber security is increasingly recognized as an essential topic for automotive systems, especially in the area of connected and automated driving. Upcoming regulation defines requirements for cyber security on multiple levels in the automotive domain in order to achieve type approval. On the organizational level, a cyber security management system (CSMS) which covers the whole vehicle lifecycle and ecosystem is required. In addition, an argumentation for the cyber security of each vehicle type for which type approval is requested has to be given. Due to the novel nature of these requirements compared to existing type approval requirements, a test phase is ongoing. The components and scope of a CSMS are an open issue. We give an overview of the requirements for a CSMS, identify approaches and gaps, and give an outlook towards a potential framework which can address the requirements. | 2018 | PRYSTINE - PRogrammable sYSTems for INtelligence in AutomobilEsabstractAmong the actual trends that will affect society in the coming years, autonomous driving stands out as having the potential to disruptively change the automotive industry as we know it today. As a consequence, this will also highly impact the semiconductor industry and open new market opportunities, since semiconductors play an indispensable role as enablers for automated vehicles. Fully automated driving has been identified as one major enabler to master the Grand Societal Challenges of safe, clean, and efficient mobility. For this, fail-operational behavior is essential in the sense, plan, and act stages of the automation chain in order to handle safety-critical situations by its own, which currently is not reached with state-of-the-art approaches also due to missing reliable environment perception and sensor fusion. PRYSTINE, which was the highest ranked ECSEL project proposal in 2017, will realize Fail-operational Urban Surround perceptION (FUSION) which is based on robust Radar and LiDAR sensor fusion and control functions in order to enable safe automated driving in urban and rural environments. Furthermore, PRYSTINE will strengthen and extend traditional core competencies of the European industry, research organizations, and universities in smart mobility and in particular in the electronic component and systems and cyber-physical systems domain. | 2018 | Extending Automotive SPICE 3.0 for the use in ADAS and future self-driving service architecturesabstractAbstract The SOQRATES ( www.soqrates.de ) working party has been established in 2003 with the support of the Bavarian SW initiative. Major automotive suppliers joined forces to exchange best practices in topics such as Automotive SPICE, functional safety, and cybersecurity. The research method of SOQRATES is to compare the best practices, and in case that a specific design pattern is accepted by all parties, it is declared and published as a state of the art. Some of the results of the working party have been packaged into training courses. For example, in the EU project SafEUr (518632‐LLP‐1‐2011‐1‐AT‐LEONARDO‐LMP, 2011‐2012) a European partnership with inputs from SOQRATES developed a skill set, training materials, and best practices for the implementation of ISO 26262. For example, in the EU project AQUA (Knowledge Alliance for Quality in Automotive, EAC‐2012‐0635, 2013‐ 2014), a European partnership with inputs from SOQRATES developed a skill set, training materials, and best practices for integrating Automotive SPICE, ISO 26262, and Six Sigma. For example, in the EU project AQU (Automotive Quality Universities, 2015‐1‐CZ01‐KA203‐013986, 2015‐ 2017), a European partnership with inputs from SOQRATES applied the AQUA concept with universities in Austria, Germany, France, and Czech Republic who educate students that will work in the automotive industry. Also, the working party elaborated integrated assessment models where the Automotive SPICE 3.0 has been merged with ISO 26262 (further safety related questions) and SAE J3061 (further cybersecurity questions). This paper will look into the future of self‐driving cars and discuss the design patterns that are currently analysed in the working party to support a vehicle in future self‐driving infrastructure architectures and processes. | 2015 | Automotive embedded software: Migration challenges to multi-core computing platformsabstractThe introduction of multi-core computing platforms aims at providing more computing resources and additional interfaces to answer the needs of new automotive control strategies with respect to computing performances and connectivity (e.g. connected vehicle, hybrid powertrains). At the same time, the parallel execution and resulting resources and timing conflicts require a paradigm change for the embedded software. Consequently, efficient migration of legacy software on multi-core platform, while guaranteeing at least the same level of integrity and performance as for single cores, is a significant challenge. The contributions of this paper are (1) to provide a state-of-practice survey on multi-core CPUs and operating systems for the automotive domain, and (2) based on this survey to provide guidelines for the migration of legacy SW. Finally the related challenges and opportunities for the development of high-integrity control systems on multi-cores, as platform for dependable systems are discussed.
