| 2023 | Data interoperability assessment, case of messaging-based data exchangesabstractAbstract Data interoperability implies data exchanges among intra and inter enterprises collaborating with information systems (IS). The multiplicity of these exchanges and the increasing number of data exchanged generates complexity and brings out the needs for control to avoid dysfunctions with a negative impact on the overall performance of the systems. Indeed, actually, interoperability has become a necessary performance lever that thus requires particular attention. Being at a low level in the enterprise interoperability concerns, data interoperability is mainly automated, which leads us to question: Is it possible to evaluate data interoperability performance and security based on inspection and analysis of ongoing data exchanges? We therefore endeavored to answer this question by establishing monitoring and analysis systems. In this paper, we present a research work which addresses services provided by a messaging‐based communication system. In order to collect information on Information System interactions allowing one to assess their level of data interoperability, we propose a messaging metamodel that aggregates the collected information. It provides a single point of control and enables one to determine indicators of potential interoperability problems. The approach is validated on two case studies. An industrial case study of interactions among existing systems is presented to showcase the feasibility and interest of the approach. It is proposed on top of RabbitMQ and allows our partner to identify some issues in the studied information system. The second case study shows that the approach can integrate other protocols, by reading MQTT messages. The approach is implemented using Moose, a software analysis platform. | 2022 | Leveraging the Layered Architecture for Microservice RecoveryabstractThe microservice-oriented architecture (MSA) is an architectural style which involves organizing an application as of small independent services, each oriented towards one business functionality while being data autonomous. In pursuit of modernizing their software to take advantage of the Cloud, companies have been eager to migrate their monolithic legacy software towards an MSA. This migration necessitates an identification phase to reorganize classes around the monolith’s functionalities as a set of microservice candidates. However, most identification approaches fail to utilize the monolith’s internal multilayered architecture to identify those functionalities, and thus the microservices. As a consequence, ignoring the internal multilayered architecture increases the risk of identifying microservice by their technical layer which is recognized as a conceptual anti-pattern. In this paper, we explore the impact of the multi-layer architecture in monolithic applications during the identification to develop a semi-automatic approach that relies on it to identify an MSA. Particularly, we analyze the presentation layer to determine the endpoints of each business functionality of the monolith. From these endpoints, we apply a vertical decomposition to identify the necessary classes to implement each feature as a microservice. In the process, we also define the bounded context of each microservice during the vertical decomposition of the data-access layer. For the evaluation, we implemented a model-driven process and applied it on a set of varying open-source applications commonly used in the literature. We compared the results of approach with and without the reverse-engineering of the internal architecture to measure the impact of our approach on the identification of quality microservices. Using decomposition metrics (e.g., MoJoFM, c2ccvg), we were able to measure a significant positive impact. | 2021 | Migrating GUI behavior: from GWT to AngularabstractIn a collaboration with Berger-Levrault, a major IT company, we are working on the migration of GWT applications to Angular. We focus on the GUI aspect of this migration which requires a framework switch (GWT to Angular) and a programming language switch (Java to TypeScript). Previous work identified that the GUI can be split into the UI structure and the GUI behavioral code. GUI behavioral code is the code executed when the user interacts with the UI. Although the migration of UI structure has already been studied, the migration of the GUI behavioral code has not. To help developers during the migration of their applications, we propose a generic approach in four steps that uses a meta-model to represent the GUI behavioral code. This approach includes a separation of the GUI behavioral code into events (caller code) and the code executed when an event is fired (called code). We present the approach and its implementation for a real industrial case study. The application comprises 470 Java (GWT) classes representing 56 web pages. We give examples of the migrated code. We evaluate the quality of the generated code with standard tools (SonarQube, codelizer) and compare it to another Java to TypeScript converter. The results show that our code has 53% fewer warnings and rule violations for SonarQube, and 99% fewer for codelizer. | 2020 | BLPAD.Core: A Multi-Functions Optimizer Towards Daily Planning Generation in Home Health CareabstractToday, a majority of the elderly want to live longer in autonomy and comfort. Since there is not enough space available in specialized institutions, Home Health Care Services (HHCS) constitute an important addition that reinforces the traditional system. With the increase in HHCS demands, the main challenge in this distributed system is the organization of care services in an HHC institution. This organizational problem is widely studied as a Home Health Care Scheduling and Routing Problem (HHCSRP) in the Operations Research (OR) community. Facing the diversity and complexity of demands, as done in OR, the formulated solution-oriented model aims at providing decision making support for the decision maker in HHC systems. This leads obstacles in the dataset / benchmark based experimental environment and critical analysis such as the degree of the optimality regarding generated solutions and the comprehensive visualization of solutions. In this paper, based on a systemic analysis of the existing benchmark and the solution approach for HHCSRP, a prototype named BLP AD. Core is introduced. It provides a full decision support system to the decision-maker in the HHC system. The functionality consists of an instance generation based on the real dataset, operational planning generation and solution visualization. This research highlights the scientific challenges and attempts to respond to the complicated expectations of HHC systems in a comprehensive manner. | 2020 | Designing Tangible Tools for the Creation of Personalized Visits by Museum ProfessionalsabstractMuseums aim at offering personalized visits to encourage visitors to visit more than once. Few approaches consider the specific skills of museum professionals when designing tools for this purpose. We conducted a three-step iterative and user-centered design process with 13 museum professionals from six museums. This analysis led us to a main finding: the most complicated task for museum professionals is to explore their design space, composed of all possible visitor profiles for which to create visits. We propose a visualization for this multidimensional design space and six potential interactions on this representation. In an exploration space, we classify them on two axes: the selection approach and the type of interface (GUI versus TUI). We analyze their benefits and limits and, based on a pilot study, we propose insights and questions for future design. | 2019 | BL.Frailty: Towards an ICT-Based Platform for Frailty Assessment at HomeabstractFrailty is a clinical syndrome relative to ageing, and characterizes an intermediate state between robust health and the loss of autonomy. The preservation of one's capacities or abilities falls within a dependency prevention approach, based on a thorough understanding of one's medical and social situation, and his/her environment of life. This understanding is usually gained through an extensive collection of data, using standardized assessment surveys. The obtained data is next analyzed in order to provide personalized recommendations relative to the ways of living. In this paper, we describe the concept, architecture and use of an ICT platform which aims to support professionals and patients in the assessment of frailty at home. Our prototype consists of a knowledge-based system relative to assessment surveys which is connected to a smartphone application and IoT devices. | 2019 | A Decision-Making Support System for Operational Coordination of Home Health Care ServicesabstractNowadays, the majority of elderly people want to live longer in autonomy and well-being. As there are not enough places available in specialized institutions, Home Health Care Services are an alternative. With the fast rise of the demand, the organizations become aware of both existing limitations and of this potential for Research and Development (R&D). They manifest two types of need: one is to be able to identify their own HHC coordination problem, the other is to find solutions for this specific need. In this paper, we propose a systemic analysis of these two aspects to identify the complexity of the relationship between the offer and the demand for HHC services. Then, we present one prototype BLPAD for decision-making support of the coordination in HHC. This research work reveals scientific obstacles and attempts to define a comprehensive response to this expectation of the HHC services ecosystem. | 2019 | GUI Migration using MDE from GWT to Angular 6: An Industrial CaseabstractDuring the evolution of an application, it happens that developers must change the programming language. In the context of a collaboration with Berger-Levrault, a major IT company, we are working on the migration of a GWT application to Angular. We focus on the GUI aspect of this migration which, even if both frameworks are web Graphical User Interface (GUI) frameworks, is made difficult because they use different programming languages and different organization schema. Such migration is complicated by the fact that the new application must be able to mimic closely the visual aspect of the old one so that the users of the application are not disrupted. We propose an approach in four steps that uses a meta-model to represent the GUI at a high abstraction level. We evaluated this approach on an application comprising 470 Java (GWT) classes representing 56 pages. We are able to model all the web pages of the application and 93% of the widgets they contain, and we successfully migrated 26 out of 39 pages (66%). We give examples of the migrated pages, both successful and not. Benoît Verhaeghe, Anne Etien, Nicolas Anquetil, Abderrahmane Seriai, Laurent Deruelle, Stéphane Ducasse, Mustapha Derras |

| 2016 | DECO: A Design Space for Device CompositionabstractNumerous interaction devices are designed through device composition. However, there is no conceptual support for this process and designers are left out to explore the space of combinations in an ad-hoc manner. In this paper we propose a design space for device composition, DECO, which focuses on the physical aspects of the composition. This design space is built around two main axes, namely Physical arrangement, which describes how elements are physically combined, and Physical manipulation, which describes how users manipulate each element. We first classify existing devices using our design space and then compare four of them to illustrate their similarities and differences. Using DECO, we design a new compound device: RPM2. This device is based on the combination of a regular mouse with the Roly-Poly Mouse. We describe in detail the user-centered iterative design process that leads to the final prototype. Finally we propose a set of design guidelines to assist the use of DECO for device composition. Gary Perelman, Marcos Serrano, Mathieu Raynal, Célia Picard, Mustapha Derras, Emmanuel Dubois 0001 |

| 2016 | Speeding-up a convolutional neural network by connecting an SVM networkabstractDeep neural networks yield positive object detection results in aerial imaging. To deal with the massive computational time required, we propose to connect an SVM Network to the different feature maps of a CNN. After the training of this SVM Network, we use an activation path to cross the network in a predefined order. We stop the crossing as quickly as possible. This early exit from the CNN allows us to reduce the computational burden. Experimental results are obtained for an industrial application in urban object detection. We show that potentially the computation cost could be reduced by 98%. Additionally, performance is slightly improved; for example, for a 55% recall, precision increases by 5%. | 2015 | The Roly-Poly Mouse: Designing a Rolling Input Device Unifying 2D and 3D InteractionabstractWe present the design and evaluation of the Roly-Poly Mouse (RPM), a rolling input device that combines the advantages of the mouse (position displacement) and of 3D devices (roll and rotation) to unify 2D and 3D interaction. Our first study explores RPM gesture amplitude and stability for different upper shapes (Hemispherical, Convex) and hand postures. 8 roll directions can be performed precisely and their amplitude is larger on Hemispherical RPM. As minor rolls affect translation, we propose a roll correction algorithm to support stable 2D pointing with RPM. We propose the use of compound gestures for 3D pointing and docking, and evaluate them against a commercial 3D device, the SpaceMouse. Our studies reveal that RPM performs 31% faster than the SpaceMouse for 3D pointing and equivalently for 3D rotation. Finally, we present a proof-of-concept integrated RPM prototype along with discussion on the various technical challenges to overcome to build a final integrated version of RPM.
