2020 Rethinking Authorization Management of Web-APIs
abstract
Service providers typically utilize Web APIs to enable the sharing of tenant data and resources with numerous third party web, cloud, and mobile applications. Security mechanisms such as OAuth 2.0 and API keys are commonly applied to manage authorization aspects of such integrations. However, these mechanisms impose functional and security drawbacks both for service providers and their users due to their static design, coarse and context insensitive capabilities, and weak interoperability. Implementing secure, feature-rich, and flexible data sharing services still poses a challenge that many providers face in the process of opening their interfaces to the public. To address these issues, we design the framework that allows pluggable and transparent externalization of authorization functionality for service providers and flexibility in defining and managing security aspects of resource sharing with third parties for their users. Our solution applies a holistic perspective that considers service descriptions, data fragments, security policies, as well as system interactions and states as an integrated space dynamically exposed and collaboratively accessed by agents residing across organizational boundaries. In this work we present design aspects of our contribution and illustrate its practical implementation by analyzing case scenario involving resource sharing of a popular service.

2016 Towards Secure Collaboration in Federated Cloud Environments
abstract
Public administrations across Europe are actively following and adopting cloud paradigms. By establishing modern data centers and consolidating their infrastructures, many organizations already benefit from cloud computing. However, there is a growing need to further support the consolidation and sharing of resources across different public entities or corporations. The ever increasing volume of processed data and diversity of organizational interactions stress this need even further, calling for the integration on infrastructure, data and services level. This is currently hindered by strict requirements in the field of data security and privacy. In this paper, we present ongoing work enabling secure private cloud federations for public administrations, performed in the scope of the SUNFISH H2020 project. We focus on architectural components and processes that establish cross-organizational enforcement of data security policies in heterogeneous environments. Our proposal introduces proactive restriction of data flows in federated environments by integrating real-time based security policy enforcement and its post-execution conformance verification. The goal of this framework is to enable secure service integration and data exchange in cross-entity contexts by inspecting data flows and assuring their conformance with security policies, both on organizational and federation level.

2016 User-centered security management of API-based data integration workflows
abstract
One of the consequences of the present adoption of cloud-based services among organizations is the increasing rate of outsourcing of business and technical functions to third parties. The recent approaches such as cloud integration platforms (iPaaS) facilitate this trend even further. In this scenario, users' resources distributed across different cloud systems are accessed, shared and processed completely in the cloud, at third-party premises, effectively transferring the execution of entire business processes to the cloud. In this work, we approach security challenges and issues that arise from data and resource integrations of such scale. Our contribution aims at advancing privacy and confidentiality in collaboration flows of distributed, cross-domain systems. We focus on the perspective of resource owners, enabling automated, structured discovery and security orchestration of their resources hosted at various cloud premises. We furthermore consider the perspective of integration clients that access and process distributed resources on behalf of resource owners, providing the model for discovery, integration and fine-grained constraints of sharing requests. Our contribution is examined on a basis of the focused prototype that allows proxy-based integration with existing systems and web authorization protocols.
