| 2026 | From Pets to Robots: MojiKit as a Data-Informed Toolkit for Affective HRI DesignabstractDesigning affective behaviors for animal-inspired social robots often relies on intuition and personal experience, leading to fragmented outcomes. To provide more systematic guidance, we first coded and analyzed human–pet interaction videos, validated insights through literature and interviews, and created structured reference cards that map the design space of pet-inspired affective interactions. Building on this, we developed MojiKit, a toolkit combining reference cards, a zoomorphic robot prototype (MomoBot), and a behavior control studio. We evaluated MojiKit in co-creation workshops with 18 participants, finding that MojiKit helped them design 35 affective interaction patterns beyond their own pet experiences, while the code-free studio lowered the technical barrier and enhanced creative agency. Our contributions include the data-informed structured resource for pet-inspired affective HRI design, an integrated toolkit that bridges reference materials with hands-on prototyping, and empirical evidence showing how MojiKit empowers users to systematically create richer, more diverse affective robot behaviors. | 2025 | HapEmoji: Enhancing Emotional Experiences in Remote Collaboration through Haptic CommunicationabstractConventional remote collaboration relies primarily on visual and auditory communication, which may lead to insufficient immersive and embodied experience. This paper examines how integrating haptic feedback can enhance emotional engagement in remote interactions and explores design approaches for haptic systems tailored to remote collaboration contexts. We developed HapEmoji, a system featuring four emotion-based dynamic haptic patterns, enabling users to convey emotions during remote meetings through a wearable, flexible haptic interface. After two rounds of pilot studies refining the haptic pattern designs, we conducted a user study with 16 participants in a remote meeting context. The results show that the four haptic patterns were easily distinguishable, and participants reported that haptic feedback helped bridge emotional gaps between collaborators, encourage active participation and positive atmosphere, while facilitating transitions and maintaining engagement. Our findings suggest that haptic interfaces can strengthen emotional communication and have the potential to improve the efficiency of remote collaboration. Liwen He, Yun Wang 0024 |

| 2016 | SDN-based Sensitive Information (SI) protection: sensitivity-degree measurement in software and data lifetime supervisor in software defined networkabstractAbstract With the big‐data and mobile Internet era coming, sensitive information (SI) in various applications plays a key role; even more, they can be an important part of the authentication between clients and servers. However, how to measure security or sensitivity degrees of SI is an open issue. Furthermore, no effective method can detect covert channel of SI thieves in Advanced Persistent Threat attacks. To deal with these problems, we propose a new design, called software‐defined networking (SDN)‐based SI Protection, in which sensitivity degree can be measured by using Analytic Hierarchy Process and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution, and SI covert channel can be detected based on OpenFlow in SDN. To our best knowledge, it is the first defined sensitivity degree for SI and novel flow‐table design in SI data flow switch. Most significantly, our proposal can apply integrated semantics of leakage points and accident attacks into security analysis and switch protocol in Operating System or network. To verify our proposal, experimental tests are performed in social network platforms, field test results have demonstrated that this proposal can capture security level for SI as expected, detect any kinds of potential leakage points in data lifetime, describe fine‐grained semantics of accidental attacks, and detect illegal data flow of SI in network layer. | 2015 | Multidirectional Weighted Interpolation and Refinement Method for Bayer Pattern CFA DemosaickingabstractThis paper presents a novel multidirectional weighted interpolation algorithm for color filter array interpolation. Our proposed method has two contributions to demosaicking. First, different from conventional interpolation methods based on two directions or four directions, the proposed method exploits to greater degree correlations among neighboring pixels along eight directions to improve the interpolation performance. Second, we propose an efficient postprocessing method to reduce interpolation artifacts based on the color difference planes. Compared with conventional state-of-the-art demosaicking algorithms, our experimental results show the proposed algorithm provides superior performance in both objective and subjective image quality. Furthermore, this implementation has moderate computational complexity. Liwen He, Gwanggil Jeon, Jechang Jeong |

| 2010 | A Real Implementation of DPI in 3G NetworkabstractIn 3G mobile communication system, mobile broadband data services create great opportunities on revenue growth for network carriers. In the mean time, the dramatically increased subscribers make the access and core network more and more over-loaded everyday. Unfortunately, majority of wireless bandwidth is consumed by non revenue driven application traffic such as the P2P downloading, illegal VoIP and file sharing that launched by minority of subscribers. This phenomenon seriously affects the experience of normal users. From the perspective of network carriers, network performance and user behavior should be monitored to detect mis-conducts and abnormal utilization in real time so as to achieve utilization fairness and efficiency. In this paper, we implement the deep packet inspection (DPI) technology into the CDMA 1x EV DO mobile network packet switch (PS) domain and construct a DPI based network traffic monitoring, analysis and management system. With the system, subscriber, cell, base station, PCF and PDSN based traffic monitoring and control, and application based traffic management is enabled. As a result, network capacity has been fully utilized by setting the application rate threshold, customer satisfaction has been greatly improved by keeping fair bandwidth utilization. | 2008 | Pure MPLS TechnologyabstractThis paper presents a novel idea for building a pure MPLS network from the initial stage (bootstrapping) without using any native IP packets to transfer control traffic. Therefore the MPLS network is a purely layer 2.5 label switched network based on layer 2 switching functionality without layer 3 IP routing. As far as we know, there is no previous work reported in this area. The motivation of this research is to simplify MPLS networks and achieve a high level of availability, reliability and security.
