2025 Tracking-Based Adaptive Temporal Resampling for Video Coding for Machines
abstract
As video data is increasingly consumed by machines rather than solely by humans, there is a growing demand for new compression methods that efficiently accommodate this shift. Since object information extracted from videos is crucial for machine consumption, analyzing the similarity between adjacent pictures based on tracked object information can help identify motion-based redundancy which can then be utilized for video compression. In this paper, we perform object tracking on input video and analyze the similarity between adjacent pictures based on the movement of tracked objects. After classifying the pictures based on their similarity, highly redundant pictures within each group are aggressively resampled in the temporal domain to improve compression efficiency while maintaining machine performance. We propose a novel picture grouping method to cluster similar adjacent pictures and describe the process of similarity assessment. We evaluated the compression efficiency of the proposed object tracking-based adaptive temporal resampling through performance evaluation experiments, achieving BD-mAP improvements in object detection of 1.29%, 0.47%, and 2.44% for Random Access (RA), Low-Delay (LD), and All Intra (AI) modes, respectively, and achieving BD-MOTA improvements in object tracking of 0.02%, 0.61%, and 6.86% for RA, LD, and AI modes, respectively.

2023 A Multi-Platform Collection of Social Media Posts about the 2022 U.S. Midterm Elections
abstract
Social media are utilized by millions of citizens to discuss important political issues. Politicians use these platforms to connect with the public and broadcast policy positions. Therefore, data from social media has enabled many studies of political discussion. While most analyses are limited to data from individual platforms, people are embedded in a larger information ecosystem spanning multiple social networks. Here we describe and provide access to the Indiana University 2022 U.S. Midterms Multi-Platform Social Media Dataset (MEIU22), a collection of social media posts from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, and 4chan. MEIU22 links to posts about the midterm elections based on a comprehensive list of keywords and tracks the social media accounts of 1,011 candidates from October 1 to December 25, 2022. We also publish the source code of our pipeline to enable similar multi-platform research projects.

2017 BeReTa: a systematic method for identifying target transcriptional regulators to enhance microbial production of chemicals
abstract
MOTIVATION: Modulation of regulatory circuits governing the metabolic processes is a crucial step for developing microbial cell factories. Despite the prevalence of in silico strain design algorithms, most of them are not capable of predicting required modifications in regulatory networks. Although a few algorithms may predict relevant targets for transcriptional regulator (TR) manipulations, they have limited reliability and applicability due to their high dependency on the availability of integrated metabolic/regulatory models. RESULTS: We present BeReTa (Beneficial Regulator Targeting), a new algorithm for prioritization of TR manipulation targets, which makes use of unintegrated network models. BeReTa identifies TR manipulation targets by evaluating regulatory strengths of interactions and beneficial effects of reactions, and subsequently assigning beneficial scores for the TRs. We demonstrate that BeReTa can predict both known and novel TR manipulation targets for enhanced production of various chemicals in Escherichia coli Furthermore, through a case study of antibiotics production in Streptomyces coelicolor, we successfully demonstrate its wide applicability to even less-studied organisms. To the best of our knowledge, BeReTa is the first strain design algorithm exclusively designed for predicting TR manipulation targets. AVAILABILITY AND IMPLEMENTATION: MATLAB code is available at https://github.com/kms1041/BeReTa (github).
