| 2026 | Biologically-Inspired Evolutionary Domain Symbiosis for Few-shot and Zero-shot Point Cloud Semantic SegmentationabstractFew-shot and zero-shot point cloud semantic segmentation aim to accurately segment novel categories using limited or no labeled samples, respectively. However, existing methods face significant challenges including domain shifts between support and query sets and the inability to handle both few-shot and zero-shot scenarios within a unified framework. To address these issues, we propose a biologically-inspired Evolutionary Domain Symbiosis Network EDS-Net for unified few-shot and zero-shot point cloud semantic segmentation. Specifically, inspired by natural symbiotic evolution, we propose a Symbiotic Evolution Module (SEM) that models co-adaptation between support and query features through self-correlation and cross-correlation mechanisms. Second, motivated by genetic crossover mechanisms, we introduce a Vision-Semantic Bridging Module (VSBM) that treats visual prototypes and semantic prototypes as two “parent” individuals, creating fused offspring prototypes through adaptive crossover operations and mutation strategies for zero-shot scenarios. Third, we develop a multi-generational evolutionary optimization framework employing an adaptive gating network to learn optimal fusion weights across different evolutionary stages. Extensive experiments demonstrate that EDS-Net with biological interpretability achieves state-of-the-art performance on both few-shot and zero-shot settings. | 2024 | Pedestrian 3D Shape Understanding for Person Re-Identification via Multi-View LearningabstractRecent development in computing power has resulted in performance improvements on holistic(none-occluded) person Re-Identification (ReID) tasks. Nevertheless, the precision of the recent research will diminish when a pedestrian is obstructed by obstacles. Within the realm of 2D space, the loss of information from obstructed objects continues to pose significant challenges in the context of person ReID. Person is a 3D non-grid object, and thus semantic representation learning in only 2D space limits the understanding of occluded person. In the present work, we propose a network based on 3D multi-view learning, allowing it to acquire geometric and shape details of an occluded pedestrian from 3D space. Simultaneously, it capitalizes on advancements in 2D-based networks to extract semantic representations from 3D multi-views. Specifically, the surface random selection strategy is proposed to convert images of 2D RGB into 3D multi-views. Using this strategy, we build four extensive 3D multi-view data collections for person ReID. After that, Pedestrian 3D Shape Understanding for Person Re-Identification via Multi-View Learning(MV-3DSReID), is proposed for identifying the person by learning person geometry and structure representation from the groups of multi-view images. In comparison to alternative data formats (e.g., 2D RGB, 3D point cloud), multi-view images complement each other’s detailed features of the 3D object by adjusting rendering viewpoints, thus facilitating a more comprehensive understanding of the person for both holistic and occluded ReID situations. Experiments on occluded and holistic ReID tasks demonstrate performance levels comparable to state-of-the-art methods, validating the effectiveness of our proposed approach in tackling challenges related to occlusion. | 2022 | Multi-distribution noise quantisation: an extreme compression scheme for transformer according to parameter distributionabstractWith the development of deep learning, neural networks are widely used in various fields, and the improved model performance also introduces a considerable number of parameters and computations. Model quantisation is a technique that turns floating-point computing into low-specific-point computing, which can effectively reduce model computation strength, parameter size, and memory consumption but often bring a considerable loss of accuracy. This paper mainly addresses the problem where the distribution of parameters is too concentrated during quantisation aware training (QAT). In the QAT process, we use a piecewise function to statistics the parameter distributions and simulate the effect of quantisation noise in each round of training, based on the statistical results. Experimental results show that by quantising the Transformer network, we lose less precision and significantly reduce the storage cost of the model; compared with the full precision LSTM network, our model has higher accuracy under the condition of a similar storage cost. Meanwhile, compared with other quantisation methods on language modelling task, our approach is more accurate. We validated the effectiveness of our policy on the WikiText-103 and PENN Treebank datasets. The experiments show that our method extremely compresses the storage cost and maintains high model performance. Zaiyang Yu, Linjun Sun |

| 2017 | EMG-Torque Relation in Chronic Stroke: A Novel EMG Complexity Representation With a Linear Electrode ArrayabstractThis study examines the electromyogram (EMG)-torque relation for chronic stroke survivors using a novel EMG complexity representation. Ten stroke subjects performed a series of submaximal isometric elbow flexion tasks using their affected and contralateral arms, respectively, while a 20-channel linear electrode array was used to record surface EMG from the biceps brachii muscles. The sample entropy (SampEn) of surface EMG signals was calculated with both global and local tolerance schemes. A regression analysis was performed between SampEn of each channel's surface EMG and elbow flexion torque. It was found that a linear regression can be used to well describe the relation between surface EMG SampEn and the torque. Each channel's root mean square (RMS) amplitude of surface EMG signal in the different torque level was computed to determine the channel with the highest EMG amplitude. The slope of the regression (observed from the channel with the highest EMG amplitude) was smaller on the impaired side than on the nonimpaired side in 8 of the 10 subjects, regardless of the tolerance scheme (global or local) and the range of torques (full or matched range) used for comparison. The surface EMG signals from the channels above the estimated muscle innervation zones demonstrated significantly lower levels of complexity compared with other channels between innervation zones and muscle tendons. The study provides a novel point of view of the EMG-torque relation in the complexity domain, and reveals its alterations post stroke, which are associated with complex neural and muscular changes post stroke. The slope difference between channels with regard to innervation zones also confirms the relevance of electrode position in surface EMG analysis.
