Understanding the shifting nature of fake news research: Consumption, dissemination, and detectionabstractAbstract Fake news on social media spreads faster and has become a major societal concern, prompting numerous publications and knowledge sharing among researchers. This research aims to understand the shifting nature of fake news by investigating the citation relationships between significant publications using key route main path analysis (MPA). The process involves generating keywords, collecting and selecting relevant data, and conducting MPA on fake news in social media. The study analyzes 4.057 publications from 2010 to 2023, identifying 27 influential works shaping the knowledge diffusion in fake news research. Findings reveal two main phases: understanding fake news consumption patterns and analyzing its dissemination and detection mechanisms. Through multiple‐global MPA, five research trends are identified: health misinformation, fact‐checking, sharing behavior, fake news recognition, and physiological interventions. The study shows a continuous rise in publications and citations, with current trends focusing on health‐related misinformation. This analysis offers insights into the development and diffusion of fake news topics on social media, emphasizing the importance of historical development in guiding future research by uncovering current trends. Highlighting the historical progression of research provides valuable context, enabling a more nuanced understanding of the field. Rona Nisa Sofia Amriza, Tzu-Chuan Chou, Wiwit Ratnasari

Towards Convergence of AI and IoT for Smart Policing: A Case of a Mobile Edge Computing-Based Context- Aware SystemabstractWith the fast growth of IoT and AI techniques, AIoT’s potential in creating and capturing business value is being increasingly acknowledged. AIoT is the practice of combining AI with IoT-based hardware to proactively predict what might happen and what action needs to be taken. However, research on this issue has been limited and what the key mechanisms for designing AIoT based context-aware services are in the real field is still underexplored. In this article, we bridge this gap by studying a case study of AIoT based context-aware system in law enforcement in terms of information system artifacts to extend our understating of the AIoT based system’s mechanisms for business applications. Our case study reveals a conceptual model that can ensure AIoT empowered context-aware services in a police field unit. The implications, limitations, and future applications of the development of AIoT empowered context-aware services are discussed. Chen-Hao Huang 0002, Tzu-Chuan Chou, Sheng-Hsiung Wu

The Impacts of Network Governance on the Performance of ITO: A Study of Taiwanese FirmsabstractInformation technology outsourcing (ITO) has been a spotlight issue for global enterprises and previous studies have suggested that ITO research has expanded from one organization and bilateral partnerships to a global form of network organization. Yet, little research has been conducted on the link between network governance and ITO performance as a way to understand an organization’s ITO efforts. This study proposes a model that employs several constructs: inter-organizational coordination, contractual governance and relational governance, and technological hegemony. The model explores the mediating roles of these governance mechanisms and the moderating role of technological hegemony as it influences the IT manager’s perception of the performance of ITO. Empirical testing of the model is based on a sample of 191 companies from Taiwanese industries. The results support the mediating effect of relational governance and the moderating effect of technological hegemony. The model and results offer a perspective on managing the performance of ITO as well as initial insight into the role of technological hegemony. Tzu-Chuan Chou, Shu-Mei Hsu, Gwo-Guang Lee

Managing e-Government system implementation: a resource enactment perspectiveabstractThe research presents a theoretical and empirical analysis of an e-Government system implementation. The resource-based view and the enactment concept were leveraged as a theoretical sense-making lens to study the system through its planning, development and operation phases. Consequently, a process model of resource enactment was developed to theorize how organizational resources were mobilized for successful implementation. It was found that the environmental climate at each phase gave rise to a particular focal capability. This was developed through the symbiotic enactment of a focal resource in conjunction with other complementary resources. Specifically, knowledge, social and leadership resources were found to be pertinently enacted in developing the focal capabilities. When observed across the phases, such symbiotic enactment of complementary resources followed a co-evolutionary path. The empirical research was conducted through a qualitative case analysis. This research would therefore be of interest to both academics and practitioners as it contributes to cumulative theoretical development and provides practical grounded insights to inform and advance e-Government system implementation. | 2009 | A process model for customer relational assets creation: A case study of online securities trading platformabstractPurpose The purpose of this research is to understand the practices of electronic customer relationship management (eCRM) and to establish a process model for online customers' relational assets creation. Design/methodology/approach Through a case study of a Taiwanese securities company, qualitative data are gathered on the process where online customers' relational assets evolved. This research is primarily based on 20 interviews of the case company. Four managers from the other two securities brokerage companies are also consulted in order to validate and complement the collected information. Findings The model reveals the relational assets creation as a four‐phase process: establish online relational tie, identify the features of online customers, enhance self‐determined behavior, and exploit research & development advantage for long‐term relationships. Originality/value In presenting an integrated view of the relational assets creation issue of eCRM has served as a step in establishing a process model. For each phase of the model, key managerial activities were identified that may facilitate online relationship building. The implications of the lessons learned and its future research directions are also discussed. Tzu-Chuan Chou, An-Sheng Lee

| 2008 | Using Incremental PLSI for Threshold-Resilient Online Event AnalysisabstractThe goal of online event analysis is to detect events and track their associated documents in real time from a continuous stream of documents generated by multiple information sources. Unlike traditional text categorization methods, event analysis approaches consider the temporal relations among documents. However, such methods suffer from the threshold-dependency problem, so they only perform well for a narrow range of thresholds. In addition, if the contents of a document stream change, the optimal threshold (that is, the threshold that yields the best performance) often changes as well. In this paper, we propose a threshold-resilient online algorithm, called the incremental probabilistic latent semantic indexing (IPLSI) algorithm, which alleviates the threshold-dependency problem and simultaneously maintains the continuity of the latent semantics to better capture the story line development of events. The IPLSI algorithm is theoretically sound and empirically efficient and effective for event analysis. The results of the performance evaluation performed on the topic detection and tracking (TDT)-4 corpus show that the algorithm reduces the cost of event analysis by as much as 15 percent ~ 20 percent and increases the acceptable threshold range by 200 percent to 300 percent over the baseline. | 2007 | Life is sharable: mechanisms to support and sustain blogging life experienceabstractRecent trend in the development of mobile devices, wireless communications, sensor technologies, weblogs, and peer-to-peer communications have prompted a new design opportunity for enhancing social interactions. This paper introduces our preliminary experiences in designing a prototype utilizing the aforementioned technologies to share life experience. Users equipped with camera phones coupled with short-range communication technology, such as RFID, can capture life experience and share it as weblogs to other people. However, in reality, this is easier said than done. The success of weblogs relies on the active participation and willingness of people to contribute. To encourage active participations, a ranking system, AgreeRank, is specifically developed to get them motivated. | 2005 | Life is sharable: blogging life experience with RFID embedded mobile phonesabstractRecent development and proliferation of mobile devices, wireless communication, and sensor technologies have prompted a new vision of social interactions in the world in which we inhabit. For example, the number of mobile phones that are capable of capturing users' spontaneous life experiences not only in pictures but also in audio and video clips is on the increase. In addition, captured experiences can be sent and shared with others over wireless networks such as WiFi, GSM, GPRS, EDGE, or recently commenced third-generation (3G) protocols. Other technology trends such as weblog and peer-to-peer communication provide a ubiquitous platform and a model of motivating users to share life experiences with other people. The hypothesis is that everyone can be an owner of a weblog which records their experience about place, people, and things that interest them. Initial form of peer-to-peer communication, centralized directory service, can help authors of weblogs attain widespread of popularity and increase the level of participation in this type of interaction. The convergence of these technologies provides new design opportunities for computer-mediated communications. The aim of this paper is to share our experiences in designing and implementing a novel physical prototype which incorporates peer-to-peer communication, weblog, RFID, wireless networking, and mobile phone technologies to enhance social quality of shared life experience. | 2002 | An efficient spatial prediction-based image compression schemeabstractWe have designed a spatial prediction-based image-compression scheme. The proposed scheme consists of two phases: the prediction phase and the quantization phase. In the prediction phase, a hierarchical structure among pixels in the image is built. Following the constructed hierarchical structure, the neighboring pixels are utilized to predict every central pixel. The prediction scheme generates an image map which indicates the prediction errors. The structure of the resulting image map is very similar to the result of a discrete wavelet transform. Thus, most quantization methods of wavelet or subband image-compression algorithms can be followed in our scheme directly to yield good compression performance. In the quantization phase, we design a multilevel threshold scheme to further enhance the result of SPIHT by taking the significance of the pixel values and the hierarchical levels into account. Furthermore, the proposed scheme can be realized by only a few integer additions and bit shifts. Simulation results indicate that the visual quality of the designed efficient spatial prediction-based image compression scheme is competitive with JPEG. All the above features make the designed image-compression scheme beneficial to the applications of real-time and wireless transmission in low-computational power environments. | 2000 | An efficient spatial prediction-based image compression schemeabstractAn efficient spatial prediction-based progressive image compression scheme is developed in this paper. The proposed scheme consists of two phases, namely, the prediction phase and the quantization phase. In the prediction phase, information of the nearest neighbor pixels is utilized to predict the center pixel. Next in-place processes are taken, i.e., the resulting prediction error is stored in the same memory location as the predicted pixel. Thus, the temporary storage space required is significantly reduced in the encoding process as well as decoding process. The prediction scheme generates prediction error images with hierarchical structure, which can employ the result of many existing quantization schemes, such as EZW and SPIHT algorithms. As a result, a progressive coding feature is obtained in a straightforward manner. In the quantization phase, we extend the multilevel threshold scheme. Not only the pixel intensity value itself but also level significance is taken into account. In the experimental testing, we illustrate that the proposed scheme yields compression quality advantages. It outperforms several existing image compression schemes. Furthermore, the proposed scheme can be realized by only integer addition and shift operations. Tremendous amounts of computation-saving are achieved. The above features make the proposed image compression scheme beneficial to the areas of real-time applications and wireless transmission in limited bandwidth and low computation power environments.
