RaT2IGen: Relation-aware Text-to-image Generation via Learnable PromptabstractText-to-image generation is to generate photo-realistic images according to the given text descriptions by users. Current methods have achieved promising performance. However, these methods still fail to generate the correct relation of the objects in the text descriptions, which cannot correctly reflect the users’ intention and hinders the application of text-to-image generation. This is due to two aspects: Firstly, they focus on the attributes and concepts of the object and have difficulty in transferring/mapping object relation knowledge into tasks. Secondly, they lack an effective mechanism to apply the semantic information from the text to guide spatial layout of the object in the generation stage. Thus, this article proposes RaT2IGen (Relation-aware Text-to-image Generation), which aims to improve the semantic consistency of the generation model of object relation with the proper spatial layout. The main contribution can be summarized as follows: (1) The learnable relation prompt is proposed to capture the semantic information of the relation of the objects, which aims to strengthen the generation model to understand the object relations. (2) A bidirectional condition generation mechanism is proposed to generate the condition vectors of the image patches in both horizontal and vertical flattening, which helps the model effectively control the spatial layout of the objects according to the text description. (3) This article proposes a new metric to evaluate the consistency of the spatial layout of the generated images with the real images. The experiments conducted on MS-COCO and LN-COCO datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in achieving the best performance. Zhaoda Ye, Xiangteng He, Yuxin Peng 0001

RelScene: A Benchmark and baseline for Spatial Relations in text-driven 3D Scene GenerationabstractText-driven 3D indoor scene generation aims to automatically generate and arrange the objects, which form a 3D scene that accurately captures the semantics detailed in the given text description. Recent works have shown the potential to generate 3D scenes guided by specific object categories and room layouts but lack a robust mechanism to maintain consistent spatial relationships in alignment with the provided text description during the 3D scene generation. Besides, the annotations of the object and relationships of the 3D scenes are usually time- and cost-consuming, which are not easily obtained for the model training. Thus, in this paper, we conduct a dataset and benchmark for assessing spatial relations in text-driven 3D scene generation, which contains a comprehensive collection of 3D scenes, including textual descriptions, annotating object spatial relations, and providing both template and free-form natural language descriptions. We also provide a pseudo description feature generation method to address the 3D scenes without language annotations. We design an aligned latent space for spatial relation in 3D scenes and text description, in which we can sample the features according to the spatial relation for the few-shot learning. We also propose new metrics to investigate the ability of the approach to generate correct spatial relationships among objects. Zhaoda Ye, Xinhan Zheng, Yang Liu 0105, Yuxin Peng 0001

MAAN: Memory-Augmented Auto-Regressive Network for Text-Driven 3D Indoor Scene GenerationabstractThe objective of text-driven 3D indoor scene generation is to automatically generate and arrange the objects to form a 3D scene that accurately captures the semantics detailed in the given text description. Existing approaches are mainly guided by specific object categories and room layout to generate and position objects like furniture within 3D indoor scenes. However, few methods harness the potential of the text description to precisely control bothspatial relationshipsandobject combinations. Consequently, these methods lack a robust mechanism for determining accurate object attributes necessary to craft a plausible 3D scene that maintains consistent spatial relationships in alignment with the provided text description. To tackle these issues, we propose the Memory-Augmented Auto-regressive Network (MAAN), which is a text-driven method for synthesizing 3D indoor scenes with controllable spatial relationships and object compositions. Firstly, we propose a memory-augmented network to help the model decide the attributes of the objects, such as 3D coordinates, rotation and size, which improves the consistency of the object spatial relations with text descriptions. Our approach constructs a memory context to select relevant objects within the scene, which provides spatial information that aids in generating the new object with the correct attributes. Secondly, we develop a prior attribute prediction network to learn how to generate a complete scene with suitable and reasonable object compositions. This prior attribute prediction network adopts a pre-training strategy to extract composition priors from existing scenes, which enables the organization of multiple objects to form a reasonable scene and keeps the object relations according to the text descriptions. We conduct experiments on three different room types (bedroom, living room, and dining room) on the 3D-FRONT dataset. The results of these experiments underscore the accuracy of our method in governing spatial relationships among objects, showcasing its superior flexibility compared to existing techniques. | 2022 | Unsupervised Visual-Textual Correlation Learning With Fine-Grained Semantic AlignmentabstractWith the rapid growth of multimedia data on the Internet, there has been a rapid rise in the demand for visual-textual cross-media retrieval between images and sentences. However, the heterogeneous property of visual and textual data brings huge challenges to measure the cross-media similarity for retrieval. Although existing methods have achieved great progress with the strong learning ability of the deep neural network, they rely heavily on the scale of training data with manual annotation, that is, either pairwise image-sentence annotation or category annotation as supervised information for visual-textual correlation learning, which are extremely labor and time consuming to collect. Without any pairwise or category annotation, it is highly challenging to construct a correlation between images and sentences due to their inconsistent distributions and representations. But people can naturally understand the correlation between visual and textual data in high-level semantic, and those images and sentences containing the same group of semantic concepts can be easily matched in human brain. Inspired by the above human cognitive process, this article proposes an unsupervised visual-textual correlation learning (UVCL) approach to construct correlations without any manual annotation. The contributions are summarized as follows: 1) unsupervised semantic-guided cross-media correlation mining is proposed to bridge the heterogeneous gap between visual and textual data. We measure the semantic matching degree between images and sentences, and generate descriptive sentences according to the concepts extracted from images to further augment the training data in an unsupervised manner. Therefore, the approach can exploit the semantic knowledge within both visual and textual data to reduce the gap between them for further correlation learning and 2) unsupervised visual-textual fine-grained semantic alignment is proposed to learn cross-media correlation by aligning the fine-grained visual local patches and textual keywords with fine-grained soft attention as well as semantic-guided hard attention, and the results can effectively highlight the fine-grained semantic information within both images and sentences to boost visual-textual alignment. Extensive experiments are conducted to perform visual-textual cross-media retrieval in unsupervised setting without any manual annotation on two widely used datasets, namely, Flickr-30K and MS-COCO, which verify the effectiveness of our proposed UVCL approach. | 2020 | Deep Reinforcement Learning for Image HashingabstractDeep hashing methods have received much attention recently, which achieve promising results by taking advantage of the strong representation power of deep networks. However, most existing deep hashing methods learn a whole set of hashing functions independently, while ignore the correlations between different hashing functions that can promote the retrieval accuracy greatly. Inspired by the sequential decision ability of deep reinforcement learning, we propose a new Deep Reinforcement Learning approach for Image Hashing (DRLIH). Our proposed DRLIH approach models the hashing learning problem as a sequential decision process, which learns each hashing function by correcting the errors imposed by previous ones and promotes retrieval accuracy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to address hashing problem from deep reinforcement learning perspective. The main contributions of our proposed DRLIH approach can be summarized as follows: (1) We propose a deep reinforcement learning hashing network. In the proposed network, we utilize recurrent neural network (RNN) as agents to model the hashing functions, which take actions of projecting images into binary codes sequentially, so that the current hashing function learning can take previous hashing functions' error into account. (2) We propose a sequential learning strategy based on proposed DRLIH. We define the state as a tuple of internal features of RNN's hidden layers and image features, which can reflect history decisions made by the agents. We also propose an action group method to enhance the correlation of hash functions in the same group. Experiments on three widely-used datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed DRLIH approach. Yuxin Peng 0001, Jian Zhang 0032, Zhaoda Ye

Sequential Cross-Modal Hashing Learning via Multi-scale Correlation MiningabstractCross-modal hashing aims to map heterogeneous multimedia data into a common Hamming space through hash function, and achieves fast and flexible cross-modal retrieval. Most existing cross-modal hashing methods learn hash function by mining the correlation among multimedia data, but ignore the important property of multimedia data: Each modality of multimedia data has features of different scales, such as texture, object, and scene features in the image, which can provide complementary information for boosting retrieval task. The correlations among the multi-scale features are more abundant than the correlations between single features of multimedia data, which reveal finer underlying structures of the multimedia data and can be used for effective hashing function learning. Therefore, we propose the M ulti-scale C orrelation S equential C ross-modal H ashing ( MCSCH ) approach, and its main contributions can be summarized as follows: (1) Multi-scale feature guided sequential hashing learning method is proposed to share the information from features of different scales through an RNN-based network and generate the hash codes sequentially. The features of different scales are used to guide the hash codes generation, which can enhance the diversity of the hash codes and weaken the influence of errors in specific features, such as false object features caused by occlusion. (2) Multi-scale correlation mining strategy is proposed to align the features of different scales in different modalities and mine the correlations among aligned features. These correlations reveal the finer underlying structure of multimedia data and can help to boost the hash function learning. (3) Correlation evaluation network evaluates the importance of the correlations to select the worthwhile correlations, and increases the impact of these correlations for hash function learning. Experiments on two widely-used 2-media datasets and a 5-media dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed MCSCH approach. Zhaoda Ye, Yuxin Peng 0001

Multi-Scale Correlation for Sequential Cross-modal Hashing LearningabstractCross-modal hashing aims to learn hash functions, which map heterogeneous multimedia data into common Hamming space for fast and flexible cross-modal retrieval. Recently, several cross-modal hashing methods learn the hash functions by mining the correlation among multimedia data. However, they ignore two properties of cross-modal data: 1) The features of different scale in single modality consist different information, such as texture, object and scene feature in the image, which can provide multi-scale information on retrieval task. 2) The correlation among the features of different modalities and scales can provide multi-scale relationship for better cross-modal hashing learning. In this paper, we propose Multi-scale Correlation Sequential Cross-modal Hashing Learning (MCSCH) approach. The main contributions of the MCSCH can be summarized as follows: 1) We propose a multi-scale feature guided sequential hashing learning method which sequentially generates the hash code guided by different scale features through a RNN based network. The multi-scale feature guided sequential hashing learning method utilizes the scale information, which enhances the diversity of the hash codes and reduces the error caused by extreme situation in specifc features. 2) We propose a multi-scale correlation mining strategy during the multi-scale feature guided sequential hashing learning, which can simultaneously mine the correlation among the features of different modalities and scales. Through this strategy, we can mine any pair of scale features in different modalities and obtain abundant scale correlation for better cross-modal retrieval. Experiments on two widely-used datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed MCSCH approach. Zhaoda Ye, Yuxin Peng 0001
