2024 Generation of Regression Tests From Logs With Clustering Guided by Usage Patterns
abstract
ABSTRACT Clustering is increasingly being used to select the appropriate test suites. In this paper, we apply this approach to regression testing. Regression testing is the practice of verifying the robustness and reliability of software by retesting after changes have been made. Creating and maintaining functional regression tests is a laborious and costly activity. To be effective, these tests must represent the actual user journeys of the application. In addition, an optimal number of test cases is critical for the rapid execution of the regression test suite to stay within the time and computational resource budget as it is re‐run at each major iteration of the software development. Therefore, the selection and maintenance of functional regression tests based on the analysis of application logs has gained popularity in recent years. This paper presents a novel approach to improve regression testing by automating the creation of test suites using user traces fed into clustering pipelines. Our methodology introduces a new metric based on pattern mining to quantify the statistical coverage of prevalent user paths. This metric helps to determine the optimal number of clusters within a clustering pipeline, thus addressing the challenge of suboptimal test suite sizes. Additionally, we introduce two criteria, to systematically evaluate and rank clustering pipelines. Experimentation involving 33 variations of clustering pipelines across four datasets demonstrates the potential effectiveness of our automated approach compared with manually crafted test suites. (All the experiments and data on Scanner, Spree and Booked Scheduler are available at https://github.com/frederictamagnan/STVR2024 .) Then, we analyse the semantics of the clusters based on their principal composing patterns.

2014 Test generation with Satisfiability Modulo Theories solvers in model-based testing
abstract
SUMMARY This paper presents a framework for UML/OCL model test generation. This framework is based on three parts. The first part is the transformation from a UML/OCL model into a Satisfiability Modulo Theories (SMT) instance. The metamodel associated with the two models and the transformation rules are presented. The second part is the animation strategies used for the generation of SMT instances to compute test sequences. The paper studies five different types of strategy to build the first‐order formula used by an SMT instance. The paper also gives the results of experiments on six case studies that were used to validate the method. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

2013 Model-Based Testing of Cryptographic Components - Lessons Learned from Experience
abstract
We present an approach to use techniques of model-based testing (MBT) applied on security cryptographic components. This application of MBT is done in the context of a qualification testing phase made by an entity independent from designers, developers and sponsors of the cryptographic components under test. This qualification phase targets both hardware and software cryptographic components and the testing activities cover functional and security testing objectives. In this context, we present the application of MBT for two cryptographic components (one hardware and one software) and show the complementary of test selection criteria based on one side on a structural coverage of the behavioral model used for test generation, and on the other side on a test purpose approach to meet some security test objectives. The test purpose language used in this project is novel and has been designed to complete behavioral model coverage criteria in the MBT process.

2013 Verification and Validation of Meta-model based Transformation from SysML to VHDL-AMS
abstract
This paper proposes an approach to verify SysML models consistency and to validate the transformation of SysML models to VHDL-AMS code. This approach is based on two main solutions: the use of model-to-model transformation to verify SysML models consistency and writing unit tests to validate model transformations. The translation of SysML models into VHDL-AMS simulable code uses MMT (Model to Model Transformation) ATL Atlas Transformation Language and M2T (Model To Text) Acceleo tooling. The test validation of the model transformations is performed using EUNIT framework.

2012 Grammar-Based Testing Using Realistic Domains in PHP
abstract
This paper presents an integration of grammar-based testing in a framework for contract-based testing in PHP. It relies on the notion of \gtypes, that make it possible to assign domains to data, by means of contract assertions written inside the source code of a PHP application. Then a test generation tool uses the contracts to generate relevant test data for unit testing. Finally a runtime assertion checker validates the assertions inside the contracts (among others membership of data to \gtypes) to establish the conformance verdict. We introduce here the possibility to generate and validate complex textual data specified by a grammar written in a dedicated grammar description language. This approach is tool-supported and experimented on the validation of web applications.

2012 Managing Evolution by Orchestrating Requirements and Testing Engineering Processes
abstract
Change management and change propagation across the various models of the system (such as requirements, design and testing models) are well-known problems in software engineering. For such problems a number of solutions have been proposed that are usually based on the integration of model repositories and on the maintenance of traceability links between the models. We propose to manage the mutual evolution of requirements models and tests models by orchestrating processes based on a minimal shared interface. Thus, requirement and test engineers must only have a basic knowledge about the ``other'' domain, share a minimal set of concepts and can follow their ``own'' respective processes. The processes are orchestrated in the sense that when a change affects a concept of the interface, the change is propagated to the other domain. We illustrate the approach using the evolution of the Global Platform standard.

2011 Model-Based Security Verification and Testing for Smart-cards
abstract
Model-Based Testing (MBT) is a widely used methodology for generating tests aiming to ensure that the system behaviour conforms to its specification. Recently, it has been successfully applied for testing certain security properties. However, for the success of this approach, it is an important prerequisite to consider the correctness of test models with respect to the given security property. In this paper we present an approach for smart-card specific security properties that permits to validate the system with MBT from test schemas. We combine this MBT approach with UMLsec security verification technique, by using UMLsec stereotypes to verify the model w.r.t. given security properties and gain more confidence in the model. We then define an automatic procedure to generate security test from the UMLsec model via so-called "test schemas". We validate this approach on a fragment of the Global Platform specification and report on available tool support.

2010 Assessing the Quality of B Models
abstract
This paper proposes to define and assess the notion of quality of B models aiming at providing an automated feedback on a model by performing systematic checks on its content. We define and classify classes of automatic verification steps that help the modeller in knowing whether his model is well-written or not. This technique is defined in the context of ``behavioral models'' that describe the behavior of a system using the generalized substitutions mechanism. From these models, verification conditions are automatically computed and discharged using a dedicated tool. This technique has been adapted to the B notation, especially on B abstract machines, and implemented within a tool interfaced with a constraint solver that is able to find counter-examples to unvalid verification conditions.

2008 Automating UML models merge for web services testing
abstract
This paper presents a method for merging UML models, taking place in a quality evaluation framework for Web Services (WS). This framework, called iTac-QoS, is an extended UDDI server (a yellow pages system dedicated to WS), using model based testing to assess quality. WS vendors have to create UML model of their product and our framework extracts tests from it. These tests are ran, and depending on their results, a mark is given to WS. This mark permits to customers to have an idea about the quality of WS they find on our UDDI server.
