| 2026 | Streaming Generated Gaussian Process Experts for Online Learning and ControlabstractGaussian Processes (GPs), as a nonparametric learning method, offer flexible modeling capabilities and calibrated uncertainty quantification for function approximations. Additionally, GPs support online learning by efficiently incorporating new data with polynomial-time computation, making them well-suited for safety-critical dynamical systems that require rapid adaptation. However, the inference and online updates of exact GPs, when processing streaming data, incur cubic computation time and quadratic storage memory complexity, limiting their scalability to large datasets in real-time settings. In this paper, we propose a streaming kernel-induced progressively generated expert framework of Gaussian processes (SkyGP) that addresses both computational and memory constraints by maintaining a bounded set of experts, while inheriting the learning performance guarantees from exact Gaussian processes. Furthermore, two SkyGP variants are introduced, each tailored to a specific objective, either maximizing prediction accuracy (SkyGP-Dense) or improving computational efficiency (SkyGP-Fast). The effectiveness of SkyGP is validated through extensive benchmarks and real-time control experiments demonstrating its superior performance compared to state-of-the-art approaches. | 2026 | Coevolution of Opinion Dynamics and Recommendation System: Modeling Analysis and Reinforcement Learning Based ManipulationabstractIn this work, we develop an analytical framework that integrates opinion dynamics with a recommendation system. By incorporating elements such as collaborative filtering, we provide a precise characterization of how recommendation systems shape interpersonal interactions and influence opinion formation. Moreover, the property of the coevolution of both opinion dynamics and recommendation systems is also shown. Specifically, the convergence of this coevolutionary system is theoretically proved, and the mechanisms behind filter bubble formation are elucidated. Our analysis of the maximum number of opinion clusters shows how recommendation system parameters affect opinion grouping and polarization. Additionally, we incorporate the influence of propagators into our model and propose a reinforcement learning-based solution. The analysis and the propagation solution are demonstrated in simulation using the Yelp data set. Xiaobing Dai, Martin Buss, Fangzhou Liu 0001 |

| 2025 | Asynchronous Distributed Gaussian Process RegressionabstractIn this paper, we address a practical distributed Bayesian learning problem with asynchronous measurements and predictions due to diverse computational conditions. To this end, asynchronous distributed Gaussian process (AsyncDGP) regression is proposed, which is the first effective online distributed Gaussian processes (GPs) approach to improve the prediction accuracy in real-time learning tasks. By leveraging the devised evaluation criterion and established prediction error bounds, AsyncDGP enables the distinction of contributions of each model for prediction ensembling using aggregation strategy. Furthermore, we extend its utility to dynamic systems by introducing a learning-based control law, ensuring guaranteed control performance in safety-critical applications. Additionally, a networked online learning simulation platform for distributed GPs, namely online GP gym (GPgym), is introduced for testing the performance of learning and control of dynamical systems. Numerical simulations within GPgym across regression tasks with real-world data sets and dynamical control scenarios demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of AsyncDGP. | 2025 | NOT-156: Night Object Tracking Using Low-Light and Thermal Infrared: From Multimodal Common-Aperture Camera to Benchmark DatasetsabstractNight object tracking (NOT) is aimed at tracking objects under low-illumination conditions at night. Existing works concentrate on thermal infrared modality, while some RGB and thermal infrared (RGB-T) data also contain night scenes. However, night scenes in these datasets are mostly well-lit, making it challenging to fully cover low-illumination scenarios. In this article, we focus on the NOT task and build up a novel low-light visible and thermal infrared (LOL-T) multimodal benchmark dataset for NOT-156. To achieve night vision, we design a common-aperture LOL-T camera by integrating a highly dynamic low-light visible imaging sensor with a thermal infrared sensor in a common aperture optical system. The proposed dataset consists of 156 video sequences and a total of 170k annotated frames, including various low-illumination night scenes such as dark rooms, streets, corridors, and so on. Compared with existing datasets, NOT-156 has more comprehensive and distinctive attributes (thermal variation, noise, high illumination overexposure, etc.). Comprehensive experiments are carried out to evaluate the performance of the advanced visible, infrared, and visible-thermal trackers on the proposed NOT-156 dataset. The authors believe that NOT-156 has great potential in the application and development of night vision. The dataset will be made available athttp://rsidea.whu.edu.cn/NOT156_dataset.htm. | 2025 | Cooperative Online Learning for Multiagent System Control via Gaussian Processes With Event-Triggered MechanismabstractIn the realm of the cooperative control of multiagent systems (MASs) with unknown dynamics, Gaussian process (GP) regression is widely used to infer the uncertainties due to its modeling flexibility of nonlinear functions and the existence of a theoretical prediction error bound. Online learning, which involves incorporating newly acquired training data into GP models, promises to improve control performance by enhancing predictions during the operation. Therefore, this article investigates the online cooperative learning algorithm for MAS control. Moreover, an event-triggered data selection mechanism, inspired by the analysis of a centralized event-trigger (CET), is introduced to reduce the model update frequency and enhance the data efficiency. With the proposed learning-based control, the practical convergence of the MAS is validated with guaranteed tracking performance via the Lyapunov theory. Furthermore, the exclusion of the Zeno behavior for individual agents is shown. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed event-triggered online learning method is demonstrated in simulations. | 2024 | Secure blockchain bidding auction protocol against malicious adversariesabstractIn recent years, with the development of blockchain, electronic bidding auction has received more and more attention. Aiming at the possible problems of privacy leakage in the current electronic bidding and auction, this paper proposes an electronic bidding auction system based on blockchain against malicious adversaries, which uses the secure multi-party computation to realize secure bidding auction protocol without any trusted third party. The protocol proposed in this paper is an electronic bidding auction scheme based on the threshold elliptic curve cryptography. It can be implemented without any third party to complete the bidding auction for some malicious behaviors of the participants, which can solve the problem of resisting malicious adversary attacks. The security of the protocol is proved by the real/ideal model paradigm, and the efficiency of the protocol is analyzed. The efficiency of the protocol is verified by simulating experiments, and the protocol has practical value. Xiaobing Dai, Jiajing Liu, Xin Liu 0013, Xiaofen Tu, Ruexue Wang |

| 2023 | Learning-based Control for PMSM Using Distributed Gaussian Processes with Optimal Aggregation StrategyabstractThe growing demand for accurate control in varying and unknown environments has sparked a corresponding increase in the requirements for power supply components, including permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs). To infer the unknown part of the system, machine learning techniques are widely employed, especially Gaussian process regression (GPR) due to its flexibility of continuous system modeling and its guaranteed performance. For practical implementation, distributed GPR is adopted to alleviate the high computational complexity. However, the study of distributed GPR from a control perspective remains an open problem. In this paper, a control-aware optimal aggregation strategy of distributed GPR for PMSMs is proposed based on the Lyapunov stability theory. This strategy exclusively leverages the posterior mean, thereby obviating the need for computationally intensive calculations associated with posterior variance in alternative approaches. Moreover, the straightforward calculation process of our proposed strategy lends itself to seamless implementation in high-frequency PMSM control. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy is demonstrated in the simulations. Zhenxiao Yin, Xiaobing Dai, Zewen Yang, Yang Shen 0015, Georges Hattab, Hang Zhao 0010 |

| 2019 | Gaussian Mixture Model for Hyperspectral Unmixing with Low-Rank RepresentationabstractGaussian mixture model (GMM) can estimate not only the abundances and distribution parameters but also distinct end-member set for each pixel. However, the traditional GMM unmixing model only has proper smoothness and sparsity prior constraints on the abundances and thus cannot excavate the local spatial information in hyperspectral image (HSI). Thus, we propose a new unmixing method with superpixel segmentation (SS) and low-rank representation (LRR) based on GMM called GMM-SS-LRR, which can consider the local spatial correlation of HSI. First, we adopt the principal component analysis (PCA) to obtain the first principal component of HSI, which contains the most information for the entire HSI. Then, we adopt the SS in the first principal component of HSI to obtain the homogeneous regions, and the abundances in each homogeneous region have the underlying low-rank property. Finally, we unmix the pixels in each homogeneous region of HSI depending on the low-rank property of abundances. Experiments on synthetic datasets and real H-SIs demonstrate that the proposed GMM-SS-LRR is efficient compared with other current popular methods. In this study, we propose a tiny effective model based on gate recurrent unit (GRU) with spectral-spatial information for hyperspectral image classification. In our method, the core GRU cell can learn interspectral correlations within an entirely continuous spectrum input, and spatial information is the initial state of this GRU cell as a prior.
