1970 Stability Analysis of a New Algorithm Used for Integrating a System of Ordinary Differential Equations
abstract
This paper is concerned with determining the stability condition for a new algorithm which can be used to integrate a system of ordinary differential equations. In addition to providing maximum accuracy and stability at each time step, the new algorithm displays a stability region almost twice that of the Runge-Kutta and equal to several times the stability region of the most stable predictor-corrector method. The mathematical analysis was made possible by diagonalizing the matrix OF/OY and the stability region of the new algorithm was determined by a trial-and-error procedure programmed for the IBM 360/75 digital computer.

abstract
AnSTRACT.A new method for integrating ordinary differential equations is described. The algorithm presented, which is based on the double constraint of maximum accuracy and stability at each time step during the integration, has a very large stability zone and is suitable for integrating both linear and nonlinear ordinary differential equations, as well as equations which have large dependence on the dependent variable.
