| 2025 | FAMF-Net: Feature Alignment Mutual Attention Fusion With Region Awareness for Breast Cancer Diagnosis via Imbalanced DataabstractAutomatic and accurate classification of breast cancer in multimodal ultrasound images is crucial to improve patients' diagnosis and treatment effect and save medical resources. Methodologically, the fusion of multimodal ultrasound images often encounters challenges such as misalignment, limited utilization of complementary information, poor interpretability in feature fusion, and imbalances in sample categories. To solve these problems, we propose a feature alignment mutual attention fusion method (FAMF-Net), which consists of a region awareness alignment (RAA) block, a mutual attention fusion (MAF) block, and a reinforcement learning-based dynamic optimization strategy(RDO). Specifically, RAA achieves region awareness through class activation mapping and performs translation transformation to achieve feature alignment. When MAF utilizes a mutual attention mechanism for feature interaction fusion, it mines edge and color features separately in B-mode and shear wave elastography images, enhancing the complementarity of features and improving interpretability. Finally, RDO uses the distribution of samples and prediction probabilities during training as the state of reinforcement learning to dynamically optimize the weights of the loss function, thereby solving the problem of class imbalance. The experimental results based on our clinically obtained dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Our code will be available at: https://github.com/Magnety/Multi_modal_Image. | 2022 | An Efficient LSTM Network for Emotion Recognition From Multichannel EEG SignalsabstractMost previous EEG-based emotion recognition methods studied hand-crafted EEG features extracted from different electrodes. In this article, we study the relation among different EEG electrodes and propose a deep learning method to automatically extract the spatial features that characterize the functional relation between EEG signals at different electrodes. Our proposed deep model is calledATtention-basedLSTMwithDomainDiscriminator (ATDD-LSTM), a model based on Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) for emotion recognition that can characterize nonlinear relations among EEG signals of different electrodes. To achieve state-of-the-art emotion recognition performance, the architecture of ATDD-LSTM has two distinguishing characteristics: (1) By applying the attention mechanism to the feature vectors produced by LSTM, ATDD-LSTM automatically selects suitable EEG channels for emotion recognition, which makes the learned model concentrate on the emotion related channels in response to a given emotion; (2) To minimize the significant feature distribution shift between different sessions and/or subjects, ATDD-LSTM uses a domain discriminator to modify the data representation space and generate domain-invariant features. We evaluate the proposed ATDD-LSTM model on three public EEG emotional databases (DEAP, SEED and CMEED) for emotion recognition. The experimental results demonstrate that our ATDD-LSTM model achieves superior performance on subject-dependent (for the same subject), subject-independent (for different subjects) and cross-session (for the same subject) evaluation. | 2020 | Virtual Reality for Training and Fitness Assessments for Construction SafetyabstractReducing accident rate is a primary goal of construction safety. In this paper, we present a large scale study of using virtual reality technology for safety training. Beyond the training, a technology framework is proposed to assess the fitness of construction workers (e.g. suitability of people with underlining health conditions to work under particular construction environments). The new virtual construction system consists of a Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) of electroencephalography (EEG) neural network to capture EEG signals of users during the virtual simulation training continuously to achieve user profiling. For real-time assessment of the accident susceptibility of a worker under various construction environments, a deep learning neural network is trained to process the EEG crops and a clipping training algorithm that classifies small segments of the EEG dataset is used to improve the computational performance of the system. Physiology data of the person during the training, i.e. blood pressure and heart rate, is also recorded. Based on the EEG data and the physiology data, a statistic model is used in the safety assessment framework to set up the risk standard. The study has tested 117 workers who were employed by the construction sites in Shanghai. People who were tested in the risk group were further underwent medical examinations for risk related medical conditions that deemed unsuitable for working in construction sites. Results show six of the nine workers identified by the VR system have been medically confirmed unsuitable, thus, over 80% accuracy of our virtual reality training and assessment system. Our proposed system can be used as a tool for understanding risk conditions of workers and safety training. Dongjin Huang, Jinyao Li, Wen Tang 0004 |

| 2019 | Unsupervised Neural Aspect Extraction with SememesabstractAspect extraction relies on identifying aspects by discovering coherence among words, which is challenging when word meanings are diversified and processing on short texts. To enhance the performance on aspect extraction, leveraging lexical semantic resources is a possible solution to such challenge. In this paper, we present an unsupervised neural framework that leverages sememes to enhance lexical semantics. The overall framework is analogous to an autoenoder which reconstructs sentence representations and learns aspects by latent variables. Two models that form sentence representations are proposed by exploiting sememes via (1) a hierarchical attention; (2) a context-enhanced attention. Experiments on two real-world datasets demonstrate the validity and the effectiveness of our models, which significantly outperforms existing baselines.
