2026 The Faiss Library
abstract
Vector databases typically manage large collections of embedding vectors. As AI applications are growing rapidly, the number of embeddings that need to be stored and indexed is increasing. The Faiss library is dedicated to vector similarity search, a core functionality of vector databases. Faiss is a toolkit of indexing methods and related primitives used to search, cluster, compress and transform vectors. This paper describes the trade-offs in vector search and the design principles of Faiss in terms of structure, approach to optimization and interfacing. We benchmark key features of the library and discuss a few selected use cases to highlight its broad applicability.

2025 Insights into DeepSeek-V3: Scaling Challenges and Reflections on Hardware for AI Architectures
abstract
The rapid scaling of large language models (LLMs) has unveiled critical limitations in current hardware architectures, including constraints in memory capacity, computational efficiency, and interconnection bandwidth.DeepSeek-V3, trained on 2,048 NVIDIA H800 GPUs, demonstrates how hardware-aware model co-design can effectively address these challenges, enabling cost-efficient training and inference at scale. This paper presents an in-depth analysis of the DeepSeek-V3/R1 model architecture and its AI infrastructure, highlighting key innovations such as Multi-head Latent Attention (MLA) for enhanced memory efficiency, Mixture of Experts (MoE) architectures for optimized computation-communication trade-offs, FP8 mixed-precision training to unlock the full potential of hardware capabilities, and a Multi-Plane Network Topology to minimize * Yuqing Wang and Liyue Zhang are the corresponding authors of this paper.

2024 Fire-Flyer AI-HPC: A Cost-Effective Software-Hardware Co-Design for Deep Learning
abstract
The rapid progress in Deep Learning (DL) and Large Language Models (LLMs) has exponentially increased demands of computational power and bandwidth. This, combined with the high costs of faster computing chips and interconnects, has significantly inflated High Performance Computing (HPC) construction costs. To address these challenges, we introduce the Fire-Flyer AI-HPC architecture, a synergistic hardware-software co-design framework and its best practices. For DL training, we deployed the Fire-Flyer 2 with 10,000 PCIe A100 GPUs, achieved performance approximating the DGX-A100 while reducing costs by half and energy consumption by $40 \%$. We specifically engineered HFReduce to accelerate allreduce communication and implemented numerous measures to keep our Computation-Storage Integrated Network congestion-free. Through our software stack, including HaiScale, 3FS, and HAI-Platform, we achieved substantial scalability by overlapping computation and communication. Our system-oriented experience from DL training provides valuable insights to drive future advancements in AI-HPC.

2022 Sparse Fuse Dense: Towards High Quality 3D Detection with Depth Completion
abstract
Current LiDAR-only 3D detection methods inevitably suffer from the sparsity of point clouds. Many multi-modal methods are proposed to alleviate this issue, while different representations of images and point clouds make it difficult to fuse them, resulting in suboptimal performance. In this paper, we present a novel multi-modal framework SFD (Sparse Fuse Dense), which utilizes pseudo point clouds generated from depth completion to tackle the issues mentioned above. Different from prior works, we propose a new RoI fusion strategy 3D-GAF (3D Grid-wise Attentive Fusion) to make fuller use of information from different types of point clouds. Specifically, 3D-GAF fuses 3D RoI features from the pair of point clouds in a grid-wise attentive way, which is more fine- grained and more precise. In addition, we propose a SynAugment (Synchronized Augmentation) to enable our multi-modal framework to utilize all data augmentation approaches tailored to LiDAR-only methods. Lastly, we customize an effective and efficient feature extractor CPConv (Color Point Convolution) for pseudo point clouds. It can explore 2D image features and 3D geometric features of pseudo point clouds simultaneously. Our method holds the highest entry on the KITTI car 3D object detection leaderboard††On the date of CVPR deadline, i.e., Nov.16, 2021, demonstrating the effectiveness of our SFD. Code will be made publicly available.

2020 Pitchnet: Unsupervised Singing Voice Conversion with Pitch Adversarial Network
abstract
Singing voice conversion is to convert a singer's voice to another one's voice without changing singing content. Recent work shows that unsupervised singing voice conversion can be achieved with an autoencoder-based approach [1]. However, the converted singing voice can be easily out of key, showing that the existing approach cannot model the pitch information precisely. In this paper, we propose to advance the existing unsupervised singing voice conversion method proposed in [1] to achieve more accurate pitch translation and flexible pitch manipulation. Specifically, the proposed Pitch-Net added an adversarially trained pitch regression network to enforce the encoder network to learn pitch invariant phoneme representation, and a separate module to feed pitch extracted from the source audio to the decoder network. Our evaluation shows that the proposed method can greatly improve the quality of the converted singing voice (2.92 vs 3.75 in MOS). We also demonstrate that the pitch of converted singing can be easily controlled during generation by changing the levels of the extracted pitch before passing it to the decoder network.
