| 2025 | Point-SAM: Promptable 3D Segmentation Model for Point CloudsabstractThe development of 2D foundation models for image segmentation has been significantly advanced by the Segment Anything Model (SAM). However, achieving similar success in 3D models remains a challenge due to issues such as non-unified data formats, poor model scalability, and the scarcity of labeled data with diverse masks. To this end, we propose a 3D promptable segmentation model Point-SAM, focusing on point clouds. We employ an efficient transformer-based architecture tailored for point clouds, extending SAM to the 3D domain. We then distill the rich knowledge from 2D SAM for Point-SAM training by introducing a data engine to generate part-level and object-level pseudo-labels at scale from 2D SAM. Our model outperforms state-of-the-art 3D segmentation models on several indoor and outdoor benchmarks and demonstrates a variety of applications, such as interactive 3D annotation and zero-shot 3D instance proposal. | 2025 | NeuManifold: Neural Watertight Manifold Reconstruction with Efficient and High-Quality Rendering SupportabstractWhile existing volumetric rendering approaches provide photorealistic results, extracting high-quality meshes from optimized neural field representations is challenging. Conversely, existing differentiable rasterization-based methods are typically sensitive to initialization and suffer from poor mesh rendering quality. In this paper, we introduce Neu-Manifold, a novel method for reconstructing watertight manifold meshes with high-quality textures from multi-view input images. NeuManifold overcomes the limitations of existing approaches by first learning a neural volumetric field and then refining it through differentiable mesh extraction and surface rendering. To eliminate artifacts and preserve mesh properties during iso-surface extraction, we introduce a novel differentiable marching cubes method. Instead of traditional textures, we use neural textures to enhance rendering quality. To integrate with modern graphics rendering pipelines, we also provide customized GLSL shader support for neural textures. Extensive experiments demonstrate that NeuManifold outperforms existing mesh-based reconstruction methods in both mesh quality and rendering metrics, achieving comparable or superior rendering quality to prior volume-rendering-based methods. The generated results enable real-time, high-quality rendering and seamlessly support numerous graphics pipelines and applications requiring high-quality meshes, such as 3D printing and physical simulation. https://sarahweiii.github.io/neumanifold/. | 2025 | PaMO: Parallel Mesh Optimization for Intersection-Free Low-Poly Modeling on the GPUabstractAbstract Reducing the triangle count in complex 3D models is a basic geometry preprocessing step in graphics pipelines such as efficient rendering and interactive editing. However, most existing mesh simplification methods exhibit a few issues. Firstly, they often lead to self‐intersections during decimation, a major issue for applications such as 3D printing and soft‐body simulation. Second, to perform simplification on a mesh in the wild, one would first need to perform re‐meshing, which often suffers from surface shifts and losses of sharp features. Finally, existing re‐meshing and simplification methods can take minutes when processing large‐scale meshes, limiting their applications in practice. To address the challenges, we introduce a novel GPU‐based mesh optimization approach containing three key components: (1) a parallel re‐meshing algorithm to turn meshes in the wild into watertight, manifold, and intersection‐free ones, and reduce the prevalence of poorly shaped triangles; (2) a robust parallel simplification algorithm with intersection‐free guarantees; (3) an optimization‐based safe projection algorithm to realign the simplified mesh with the input, eliminating the surface shift introduced by re‐meshing and recovering the original sharp features. The algorithm demonstrates remarkable efficiency, simplifying a 2‐million‐face mesh to 20k triangles in 3 seconds on RTX4090. We evaluated the approach on the Thingi10K dataset and showcased its exceptional performance in geometry preservation and speed. https://seonghunn.github.io/pamo/ Seonghun Oh, Xiaodi Yuan, Xinyue Wei, Ruoxi Shi, Fanbo Xiang, Minghua Liu, Hao Su 0001 |

| 2025 | C5D: Sequential Continuous Convex Collision Detection Using Cone CastingabstractIn physics-based simulation of rigid or nearly rigid objects, collisions often become the primary performance bottleneck, particularly when enforcing intersection-free constraints. Previous simulation frameworks rely on primitive-level CCD algorithms. Due to the large number of colliding surface primitives to process, those methods are computationally intensive and heavily dependent on advanced parallel computing resources such as GPUs, which are often inaccessible due to competing tasks or capped threading capacity in applications like policy training for robotics. To address these limitations, we propose a sequential CCD algorithm for convex shapes undergoing constant affine motion. This approach uses the conservative advancement method to iteratively refine a lower-bound estimate of the TOI, exploiting the linearity of affine motion and the efficiency of convex shape distance computation. Our CCD algorithm integrates seamlessly into the ABD framework, achieving a 10-fold speed-up over primitive-level CCD. Its high single-threaded efficiency further enables significant throughput improvements via scene-level parallelism, making it well-suited for resource-constrained environments. | 2024 | General-Purpose Sim2Real Protocol for Learning Contact-Rich Manipulation With Marker-Based Visuotactile SensorsabstractVisuotactile sensors can provide rich contact information, having great potential in contact-rich manipulation tasks with reinforcement learning (RL) policies. Sim2Real technique tackles the challenge of RL's reliance on a large amount of interaction data. However, most Sim2Real methods for manipulation tasks with visuotactile sensors rely on rigid-body physics simulation, which fails to simulate the real elastic deformation precisely. Moreover, these methods do not exploit the characteristic of tactile signals for designing the network architecture. In this paper, we build a general-purpose Sim2Real protocol for manipulation policy learning with marker-based visuotactile sensors. To improve the simulation fidelity, we employ an FEM-based physics simulator that can simulate the sensor deformation accurately and stably for arbitrary geometries. We further propose a novel tactile feature extraction network that directly processes the set of pixel coordinates of tactile sensor markers and a self-supervised pre-training strategy to improve the efficiency and generalizability of RL policies. We conduct extensive Sim2Real experiments on the peg-in-hole task to validate the effectiveness of our method. And we further show its generalizability on additional tasks including plug adjustment and lock opening. The protocol, including the simulator and the policy learning framework, will be open-sourced for community usage. Weihang Chen, Jing Xu 0011, Fanbo Xiang, Xiaodi Yuan, Hao Su 0001, Rui Chen 0019 |

| 2023 | Close the Optical Sensing Domain Gap by Physics-Grounded Active Stereo Sensor SimulationabstractIn this article, we focus on the simulation of active stereovision depth sensors, which are popular in both academic and industry communities. Inspired by the underlying mechanism of the sensors, we designed a fully physics-grounded simulation pipeline that includes material acquisition, ray-tracing-based infrared (IR) image rendering, IR noise simulation, and depth estimation. The pipeline is able to generate depth maps with material-dependent error patterns similar to a real depth sensor in real time. We conduct real experiments to show that perception algorithms and reinforcement learning policies trained in our simulation platform could transfer well to the real-world test cases without any fine-tuning. Furthermore, due to the high degree of realism of this simulation, our depth sensor simulator can be used as a convenient testbed to evaluate the algorithm performance in the real world, which will largely reduce the human effort in developing robotic algorithms. The entire pipeline has been integrated into the SAPIEN simulator and is open-sourced to promote the research of vision and robotics communities. | 2021 | NeuTex: Neural Texture Mapping for Volumetric Neural RenderingabstractRecent work [28], [5] has demonstrated that volumetric scene representations combined with differentiable volume rendering can enable photo-realistic rendering for challenging scenes that mesh reconstruction fails on. However, these methods entangle geometry and appearance in a "black-box" volume that cannot be edited. Instead, we present an approach that explicitly disentangles geometry—represented as a continuous 3D volume—from appearance—represented as a continuous 2D texture map. We achieve this by introducing a 3D-to-2D texture mapping (or surface parameterization) network into volumetric representations. We constrain this texture mapping network using an additional 2D-to-3D inverse mapping network and a novel cycle consistency loss to make 3D surface points map to 2D texture points that map back to the original 3D points. We demonstrate that this representation can be reconstructed using only multi-view image supervision and generates high-quality rendering results. More importantly, by separating geometry and texture, we allow users to edit appearance by simply editing 2D texture maps. | 2021 | MVSNeRF: Fast Generalizable Radiance Field Reconstruction from Multi-View StereoabstractWe present MVSNeRF, a novel neural rendering approach that can efficiently reconstruct neural radiance fields for view synthesis. Unlike prior works on neural radiance fields that consider per-scene optimization on densely captured images, we propose a generic deep neural network that can reconstruct radiance fields from only three nearby input views via fast network inference. Our approach leverages plane-swept cost volumes (widely used in multi-view stereo) for geometry-aware scene reasoning, and combines this with physically based volume rendering for neural radiance field reconstruction. We train our network on real objects in the DTU dataset, and test it on three different datasets to evaluate its effectiveness and generalizability. Our approach can generalize across scenes (even indoor scenes, completely different from our training scenes of objects) and generate realistic view synthesis results using only three input images, significantly outperforming concurrent works on generalizable radiance field reconstruction. Moreover, if dense images are captured, our estimated radiance field representation can be easily fine-tuned; this leads to fast per-scene reconstruction with higher rendering quality and substantially less optimization time than NeRF.
