| 2025 | VeriLoC: Line-of-Code Level Prediction of Hardware Design Quality from Verilog CodeabstractModern chip design is complex, and there is a crucial need for early-stage prediction of key design-quality metrics like timing and routing congestion directly from Verilog code (a commonly used programming language for hardware design). It is especially important yet complex to predict individual lines of code that cause timing violations or downstream routing congestion. Prior works have tried approaches like converting Verilog into an intermediate graph representation and using LLM embeddings alongside other features to predict module-level quality, but did not consider line-level quality prediction. We propose VeriLoC, the first method that predicts design quality directly from Verilog at both the line- and module-level. To this end, VeriLoC leverages recent Verilog code-generation LLMs to extract local line-level and module-level embeddings, and trains downstream classifiers/regressors on concatenations of these embeddings. VeriLoC achieves high F1-scores of 0.86-0.95 for line-level congestion and timing prediction, and reduces the mean average percentage error from 14%-18% for SOTA methods down to only 4%. We believe that VeriLoC embeddings and insights from our work will also be of value for other predictive and optimization tasks for complex hardware design. | 2022 | ChildrEN SafEty and Rescue (CENSER) System for Trafficked Children from Brothels in IndiaabstractHuman child trafficking has become a global epidemic with over 10 million children forced into labor or prostitution. In this paper, we propose the ChildrEN SafEty and Rescue (CENSER) system used by the Guria non-profit organization to retrieve trafficked children from brothels in India. The CENSER system is formed of the proposed Memory Augmented ScatterNet ResNet Hybrid (MSRHN) network trained on three databases containing images of trafficked children at different ages, their kins, and their sketches. The CENSER system encodes the input image of a child using the proposed Memory Augmented ScatterNet ResNet Hybrid (MSRHN) network and queries the encoding with the (i) Age, (ii) Kinship, and (iii) Sketch databases to establish the child's identity. The CENSER system can also predict if a child is a minor, which is used along with their identity to convince law enforcement to initiate the rescue operation. The MSRHN network is pre-trained on the KinFace database and then fine-tuned on the three databases. The performance of the proposed model is compared with several state-of-the-art methods. | 2022 | Iteratively Reweighted Minimax-Concave Penalty Minimization for Accurate Low-rank Plus Sparse Matrix Decompositionabstract-norm, respectively. Convex approximations are known to result in biased estimates, to overcome which, nonconvex regularizers such as weighted nuclear-norm minimization and weighted Schatten p-norm minimization have been proposed. However, works employing these regularizers have used heuristic weight-selection strategies. We propose weighted minimax-concave penalty (WMCP) as the nonconvex regularizer and show that it admits an equivalent representation that enables weight adaptation. Similarly, an equivalent representation to the weighted matrix gamma norm (WMGN) enables weight adaptation for the low-rank part. The optimization algorithms are based on the alternating direction method of multipliers technique. We show that the optimization frameworks relying on the two penalties, WMCP and WMGN, coupled with a novel iterative weight update strategy, result in accurate low-rank plus sparse matrix decomposition. The algorithms are also shown to satisfy descent properties and convergence guarantees. On the applications front, we consider the problem of foreground-background separation in video sequences. Simulation experiments and validations on standard datasets, namely, I2R, CDnet 2012, and BMC 2012 show that the proposed techniques outperform the benchmark techniques.
