2026 How Background Colour Shapes Digital Text-Information Processing: A fNIRS-Eye Tracking Study
abstract
As digitalization advances, colour in human-computer interaction now fundamentally shapes digital text processing beyond aesthetics. However, the background colour's impact on text information processing under controlled luminance conditions remains underexplored. This study employed a multimodal approach combining functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), eye tracking, behavioural performance and subjective reports to systematically examine colour’s effects on text comprehension. Key findings demonstrated that green elicited higher activation in the left frontal pole area (FPA-L), right Broca’s area (Broca-R), and the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC-L), corresponding to the highest accuracy. In contrast, red and blue reduced brain activation, arousal levels, accuracy, and prolonged average visit duration. Correlational analyses revealed critical underlying mechanisms, showing that colour difference negatively correlated with brain activation (DLPFC-L, Broca-R), pupil diameter, and subjective reports. These findings highlight the importance of colour in text information processing and provide actionable insights for optimizing colour choices in digital interfaces.

2025 Generative Multi-Sensory Meditation: Exploring Immersive Depth and Activation in Virtual Reality
abstract
This work introduces MindfulVerse, an AI-Generated Content (AIGC)-driven application for personalized mindfulness experiences in VR. Using fNIRS to observe brain activation, the study demonstrates that generative meditation improves neural activation in self-regulation regions and positively impacts emotional regulation and user participation compared to static content.

2025 Split-Screen Folklore: Human-AI Co-Creation in Reimagining The Legend of the White Snake
abstract
This paper introduces a novel framework for human–AI collaborative storytelling using split-screen narrative techniques. Moving beyond conventional AI applications in visual reproduction, we develop a co-creative workflow that integrates computational capabilities with Chinese aesthetic principles to address challenges in temporal and spatial narrative design. Through a case study of The Legend of the White Snake, we demonstrate how AI enhances the symbolic representation of duality, while human expertise ensures cultural authenticity. Key findings include: (1) AI improves efficiency in generating parallel visual sequences and maintaining stylistic consistency; (2) human intervention is essential for contextualizing cultural symbols and emotional resonance; (3) the hybrid approach enables innovative visual storytelling that both respects tradition and expands creative possibilities. This research contributes to culturally-grounded AI applications in digital heritage and narrative innovation.

2024 See My Sea - Emotion Translation and Visualization
abstract
See My Sea" is an innovative project that integrates art and emotion to explore human emotions through facial expressions.Utilizing advanced facial recognition and real-time data processing, the project captures subtle emotional cues and translates them into dynamic visualizations of ocean particles. This artistic endeavor transforms transient facial movements into fluid, evolving visual patterns, mirroring the vast and ever-changing nature of the sea.Viewers engage interactively with their emotional states, influencing the visual output and fostering a deeper understanding of their inner selves.

2024 Digital Mustard Garden: Revitalizing Freehand-ink-painting Teaching through Artistic Participation
abstract
Traditional art forms often fail to engage modern audiences seeking interactive experiences. "Digital Mustard Garden" bridges this gap by integrating traditional techniques from The Mustard Seed Garden Manual of Painting with digital technology. We trained and fine-tuned a model using the Mustard Seed Garden painting manual, which is then embedded in the installation’s design to facilitate interaction. Through audience participation, the model generates digital prints, transforming viewers into active participants. By merging classic and contemporary techniques, our installation offers new mediums for exploration and novel ways for audiences to engage with art, promoting a deeper appreciation and understanding of traditional art forms. This interactive approach enables beginners to learn basic ink painting techniques through personalized content, guided by digital technology, making the learning process more accessible and enjoyable.
