2025 SoLA: Leveraging Soft Activation Sparsity and Low-Rank Decomposition for Large Language Model Compression
abstract
Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated impressive capabilities across various tasks, but the billion-scale parameters pose deployment challenges. Although existing methods attempt to reduce the scale of LLMs, they require either special hardware support or expensive post-training to maintain model quality. To facilitate efficient and affordable model slimming, we propose a novel training-free compression method for LLMs, named “SoLA”, which leverages Soft activation sparsity and Low-rAnk decomposition. SoLA can identify and retain a minority of components significantly contributing to inference, while compressing the majority through low-rank decomposition, based on our analysis of the activation pattern in the feed-forward network (FFN) of modern LLMs. To alleviate the decomposition loss, SoLA is equipped with an adaptive component-wise low-rank allocation strategy to assign appropriate truncation positions for different weight matrices. We conduct extensive experiments on LLaMA-2-7B/13B/70B and Mistral-7B models across a variety of benchmarks. SoLA exhibits remarkable improvement in both language modeling and downstream task accuracy without post-training. For example, with a 30% compression rate on the LLaMA-2-70B model, SoLA surpasses the state-of-the-art method by reducing perplexity from 6.95 to 4.44 and enhancing downstream task accuracy by 10%.

2025 Towards Building Human-like Smart Agents in Modern 3D Video Games (Student Abstract)
abstract
In recent years, reinforcement learning has been widely applied in the field of games. However, most studies focus on assisting agents to achieve victory, with less attention paid to whether the agents exhibit human-like characteristics. In order to build human-like agents with high performance, we propose a method for learning the strategies of human players in modern three-dimensional video games. Our method utilizes a hierarchical framework, learning basic behaviors and intentions of human players at the lower level through imitation learning, and generalized policies at the high level through reinforcement learning. Compared with other existing methods, our method demonstrates significant advantages in learning human-like strategies in complex environments.

2025 SEAL: Structure and Element Aware Learning Improves Long Structured Document Retrieval
abstract
In long structured document retrieval, existing methods typically fine-tune pre-trained language models (PLMs) using contrastive learning on datasets lacking explicit structural information. This practice suffers from two critical issues: 1) current methods fail to leverage structural features and element-level semantics effectively, and 2) the lack of datasets containing structural metadata. To bridge these gaps, we propose SEAL, a novel contrastive learning framework. It leverages structure-aware learning to preserve semantic hierarchies and masked element alignment for fine-grained semantic discrimination.Furthermore, we release StructDocRetrieval, a long structured document retrieval dataset with rich structural annotations.Extensive experiments on both released and industrial datasets across various modern PLMs, along with online A/B testing, demonstrate consistent performance improvements, boosting NDCG@10 from 79.41% to 82.59% on BGE-M3.The resources are available at this URL.

2024 Cascaded Attention: Adaptive and Gated Graph Attention Network for Multiagent Reinforcement Learning
abstract
Modeling the interactive relationships of agents is critical to improving the collaborative capability of a multiagent system. Some methods model these by predefined rules. However, due to the nonstationary problem, the interactive relationship changes over time and cannot be well captured by rules. Other methods adopt a simple mechanism such as an attention network to select the neighbors the current agent should collaborate with. However, in large-scale multiagent systems, collaborative relationships are too complicated to be described by a simple attention network. We propose an adaptive and gated graph attention network (AGGAT), which models the interactive relationships between agents in a cascaded manner. In the AGGAT, we first propose a graph-based hard attention network that roughly filters irrelevant agents. Then, normal soft attention is adopted to decide the importance of each neighbor. Finally, gated attention further refines the collaborative relationship of agents. By using cascaded attention, the collaborative relationship of agents is precisely learned in a coarse-to-fine style. Extensive experiments are conducted on a variety of cooperative tasks. The results indicate that our proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art baselines.

2022 Intelligent fractional-order integral sliding mode control for PMSM based on an improved cascade observer
abstract
In this paper, an intelligent fractional-order integral sliding mode control (FOISMC) strategy based on an improved cascade observer is proposed. First, an FOISMC strategy is designed to control a permanent magnet synchronous motor. It has good tracking performance, is strongly robust, and can effectively reduce chattering. The proposed FOISMC strategy associates strong points of the integral action (which can eliminate steady-state tracking errors) and the fractional calculus (which is flexible). Second, an improved cascade observer is proposed to detect the rotor information with a smaller observation error. The proposed observer combines an adaptive sliding mode observer and an extended high-gain observer. In addition, an improved variable-speed grey wolf optimization algorithm is designed to enhance controller parameters. The effectiveness of the strategy is tested using simulations and an experiment involving model uncertainty and external disturbance.
