| 2025 | The Support Decision System for establish Radio Communications in Distress Situations for Masters of Touristic Yachts travelling around the Wallace's Line Sea AreaabstractThe maritime area for sailing between the Pacific and the Indian Ocean along the Wallace’s Line is classified as very attractive for yachting and sailing of small unconventional, including tourist sea yachts, but on the other hand is assessed as dangerous. Radio communication coverage in the area in question for Class A1 and A2 communication zones is severely limited there. The use of standard radio communication equipment VHF/MF class on small tourist vessels and yachts is therefore limited or even ineffective in many parts of the analyzed sea area. This is of significant importance in distress situations, requiring calls to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centers in case of danger to life and property. This situation therefore poses a navigational safety risk for smaller pleasure yachts often sailing in the area. It should be noted that the possible sinking of such a vessel, flooding or entry of crew and passengers into the water in this area is additionally dangerous as the warm waters there are abundant with sharks and other dangerous predatory fish. In such situations, even a minor yacht failure can turn into a major maritime tragedy resulting in loss of life. This is why the ability to effectively and quickly establish radio communication with Marine Rescue Coordination Centers is so important there. This paper presents the idea of an innovative radio communication system to support the decision of the skipper of a small seagoing touristic yacht sailing in Indonesian waters of the Wallace’s Line, in a distress situation when it is necessary to urgently call for the assistance of an MRCC. The system concept is based on the use of ANN methods to assist the captain in making the optimum navigational decision. A ANN model and an example of numerical simulation of the new decision-support system’s operation are presented, with reference to the existing communication A1, A2 zones of the Wallace’s Line area, and a present position of a small touristic yacht. The result of the calculations is the determination of the value of the new corrected course of the yacht, the distance and the time needed to reach the nearest area to establish radio communication with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre using VHF/MF radio equipment. | 2025 | ANN Computer System to Support the Decision of Small Yacht Masters in Distress Situations for establish Radio Communication while sailing in Western Caribbean Sea Waters AreaabstractThe waters of the western Caribbean Sea are some of the most popular sailing waters in the world. A warm climate almost all year round and many exotic, tourist-attractive ports provide theoretically very good sailing conditions. Many small yachts only have radio communication equipment operating on VHF/MF frequencies. Unfortunately, their effective operating range is limited. This poses a problem if there is a threat to life or property on board such a yacht. In such dangerous situations, it is necessary to call for the assistance of MRCCs nearby. In the absence of range and higher grade radio communication equipment (e.g. HF) such a call may be ineffective. This paper describes the idea of a new radio communication system to support the decision of a small touristic yacht Master sailing in the western Caribbean Sea area, in a distress situation, when it is necessary to urgently call for rescue from the MRCC Marine Rescue Coordination Center. The system is based on the use of the ANN artificial neural network method. The paper describes the ANN computational model and also presents an example of how the new decision-support system works for a yacht Master in a specific situation simulating a distress situation while sailing in the western Caribbean Sea, with the radio communication areas A1, A2, Sea Canal, harbours and at preset position of a small tourist yacht. The result of the calculations was to determine the distance and time required to reach the nearest area to establish radio communication with the MRCC SAR using VHF/MF radio equipment to call for rescue, and to determine the value of the new optimum corrected course for the tourist yacht. | 2024 | Concept of Radiocommunication VHF Support System to Use in Distress Situations for Captains of Sea Yachts and other Small Vessels Operating far from shoreabstractThis paper presents the concept of a VHF radio communication system to assist the captain of a seagoing yacht or smaller vessel in an distress situation requiring a call for RCC assistance while sailing far from shore, where there is no chance of quickly reaching a region where direct communication with a shore station can be established. This is an important issue due to the fact that yachts and smaller vessels are often equipped with VHF radios with limited range (for 25-35 Mm). In an distress situation, especially when life and property on a yacht are at risk, calling for RCC assistance using ordinary VHF/MF radio equipment is limited. In such a case, the most important thing is to be able to contact Marine Rescue Centers as soon as possible. The article presents the concept of a model of an intelligent system to assist the captain to facilitate the rapid establishment of communication via the VHF radiostation and develop a proper navigation decision based on the ANN artificial neural network method to call for RCC assistance in a distress situation. The article presents an example of numerical simulation of the operation of the discussed Radio Communication Decision Support system, assuming a certain position of a sea yacht in distress, with reference to existing sea corridors in the Pacific Ocean area. The result of the simulation is related to the calculation of the distance and the value of the new corrected Yacht course to the nearest sea corridor, where it is possible with high probability to meet another larger vessel and by way of establishing VHF radio contact with it achieve the establishment of communication with the marine Rescue Center to distress call. | 2024 | The concept of using of neural network computer systems to assist establish Radiocommunications in Distress situations for captains of tourist yachts sailing around the Lesser AntillesabstractThe Lesser Antilles Sea Area is a particularly dangerous area for small unconventional, including, tourist sea yachts because the range of available communications in the areas of communication zones A1 and A2, is severely limited there. This represents a significant constraint on the safety of navigation for these vessels because in a dangerous situation requiring a call for RCC assistance, the use of common VHF/MF radio equipment for this purpose is limited and often ineffective. The ability to contact Maritime Rescue Coordination Centers in case of danger to life and property on a yacht is an important issue. Recently, there has been an increased number of serious maritime accidents involving cruising sea yachts, during which there have been serious problems in establishing radio communication in dangerous situations. The article presents the concept of an intelligent radio communication system to support the decision of the captain of a small sea tourist yacht, sailing in the waters near Lesser Antilles, in a dangerous situation requiring a call for RCC assistance. The discussed new system, based on the method of artificial neural networks ANN, makes it possible to help the captain make the right navigation decision in an emergency situation. The content presents the calculation model and an example of numerical simulation of the operation of the described decision support system, with reference to the existing communication areas A1, A2 Lesser Antilles area and assuming a given position of a tourist small yacht in a dangerous situation, requiring a call for RCC assistance by means of VHF/MF radio equipment. The result of the simulation is the calculation of the distance to the nearest area to establish communication with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center and the value of the new corrected course of the tourist yacht and the estimation of the time required to reach the aforementioned area. | 2023 | The Radiocommunication Support Decision System to Use in Distress Situations for Captains of Small Non-conventional Vessels Operating in the Caribbean Sea AreaabstractThe paper presents the concept of a Radio Communication System to support the decision of the captain of a small non-conventional vessel including a yacht sailing in the waters of the Caribbean Sea in a dangerous situation requiring a call for RCC assistance. This is important to enhance boating safety in the area, where, due to the reduced and non-overlapping accessible areas of the A1 and A2 communications zones, calling for RCC assistance using common VHF/MF radio equipment is limited. In the event of danger to life and property on a yacht, the ability to contact Marine Rescue Centers is a primary concern. This paper presents a model of an intelligent system for supporting the captain in making the right navigation decision, in a dangerous situation, based on the method of artificial neural networks ANN. The article presents an example of numerical simulation of operation of the discussed system of Radio Communication decision support, assuming a specific position of the small non-conventional vessel in distress, with reference to the existing communication areas A1, A2 in the Caribbean Sea. The result of the simulation is related to the calculation of the distance to the nearest zone, enabling the establishment of communication with the marine Rescue Center to distress call, the value of the new corrected course of the small non-conventional vessel and the time of arrival at the above-mentioned zone. | 2023 | Concept of an Intelligent System for Safety Navigation in Distress Situations using MF-DSC and MF-RTF Radiocommunication Equipment for Non-conventional Vessels Sailing along the Coast of Portugal using ANN Computer System TechnologyabstractThe article presents the current problem of inability to establish effective communications of the coast of Portugal (lack of A1 and A2 communication areas) and the concept of an intelligent decision support system for the Captain of a non-conventional ship (including a yacht) located in this area using the MF system in an emergency situation. The described problem is important to increase the degree of safety of navigation in the process of effective summoning of RCC assistance, in a situation of danger to life and property of the ship using radio devices of the MF frequency band. The article presents a model of an intelligent decision support system for the captain by implementing artificial neural networks ANN, taking advantage of the phenomena of weaker ionization in the upper layers of the ionosphere, at night, which translates into an increase in the operating range of radio communications on MF radio waves. The results of simulations of the increased range of A2 communication area at night time, enabling the establishment of MF radio communication with RCC marine rescue centers in an emergency situation by the captain of a non-conventional vessel in the area in question, are presented. | 2021 | The Concept of Advanced Maritime Integrated Data Processing System with Use of Neural Network MethodsabstractThe paper looks at the concept of a New Integrated Maritime Data Communication System based on the synthesis of multisensory mechanical-navigation signals and information. Problems with processing of safety, quickly and correctly manoeuvring decisions by ship Deck Officers associated with continuous receipt of too much information provided to the ship navigation bridge are analysed. It pointed to the need to take into account in the decision-making process the management of the vessel, not only data of a navigational nature but also data of a mechanical nature. An analysis of today’s integrated navigation bridge systems on ships was carried out, indicating the weaknesses of the existing solutions. There are systems already integrating signals from multisensor sources. However, they are based on the use of navigation signals only. Based on the analysis, it was concluded that existing systems could lead to the generation of erroneous and incomplete navigational decisions resulting in maritime accidents. An algorithm of The Fusion Data Processing System with Integrated Multisensory Module was proposed to take into account in the decision-making process the missing signals generated from marine mechanical devices having a direct impact on the ship’s movement track. It is new to propose the use of ANN methods to develop rapid decisions. An example of algorithm with the results of numerical studies of signal fusion from various sensors generating input information to the vessel positioning navigation system is presented.
