| 2025 | SkillMimic: Learning Basketball Interaction Skills from DemonstrationsabstractTraditional reinforcement learning methods for human- object interaction (HOI) rely on labor-intensive, manually designed skill rewards that do not generalize well across different interactions. We introduce SkillMimic, a unified data-driven framework that fundamentally changes how agents learn interaction skills by eliminating the need for skill-specific rewards. Our key insight is that a unified HOI imitation reward can effectively capture the essence of diverse interaction patterns from HOI datasets. This enables SkillMimic to learn a single policy that not only masters multiple interaction skills but also facilitates skill transitions, with both diversity and generalization improving as the HOI dataset grows. For evaluation, we collect and introduce two basketball datasets containing approximately 35 minutes of diverse basketball skills. Extensive experiments show that SkillMimic successfully masters a wide range of basketball skills including stylistic variations in dribbling, layup, and shooting. Moreover, these learned skills can be effectively composed by a high-level controller to accomplish complex and long-horizon tasks such as consecutive scoring, opening new possibilities for scalable and generalizable interaction skill learning. | 2023 | GAN Prior Based Null-Space Learning for Consistent Super-resolutionabstractConsistency and realness have always been the two critical issues of image super-resolution. While the realness has been dramatically improved with the use of GAN prior, the state-of-the-art methods still suffer inconsistencies in local structures and colors (e.g., tooth and eyes). In this paper, we show that these inconsistencies can be analytically eliminated by learning only the null-space component while fixing the range-space part. Further, we design a pooling-based decomposition (PD), a universal range-null space decomposition for super-resolution tasks, which is concise, fast, and parameter-free. PD can be easily applied to state-of-the-art GAN Prior based SR methods to eliminate their inconsistencies, neither compromise the realness nor bring extra parameters or computational costs. Besides, our ablation studies reveal that PD can replace pixel-wise losses for training and achieve better generalization performance when facing unseen downsamplings or even real-world degradation. Experiments show that the use of PD refreshes state-of-the-art SR performance and speeds up the convergence of training up to 2~10 times. Yinhuai Wang, Jiwen Yu, Jian Zhang 0018 |

| 2023 | LaPE: Layer-adaptive Position Embedding for Vision Transformers with Independent Layer NormalizationabstractPosition information is critical for Vision Transformers (VTs) due to the permutation-invariance of self-attention operations. A typical way to introduce position information is adding the absolute Position Embedding (PE) to patch embedding before entering VTs. However, this approach operates the same Layer Normalization (LN) to token embedding and PE, and delivers the same PE to each layer. This results in restricted and monotonic PE across layers, as the shared LN affine parameters are not dedicated to PE, and the PE cannot be adjusted on a per-layer basis. To overcome these limitations, we propose using two independent LNs for token embeddings and PE in each layer, and progressively delivering PE across layers. By implementing this approach, VTs will receive layer-adaptive and hierarchical PE. We name our method as Layer-adaptive Position Embedding, abbreviated as LaPE, which is simple, effective, and robust. Extensive experiments on image classification, object detection, and semantic segmentation demonstrate that LaPE significantly outperforms the default PE method. For example, LaPE improves +1.06% for CCT on CIFAR100, +1.57% for DeiT-Ti on ImageNet-1K, +0.7 box AP and +0.5 mask AP for ViT-Adapter-Ti on COCO, and +1.37 mIoU for tiny Segmenter on ADE20K. This is remarkable considering LaPE only increases negligible parameters, memory, and computational cost. | 2023 | FreeDoM: Training-Free Energy-Guided Conditional Diffusion ModelabstractRecently, conditional diffusion models have gained popularity in numerous applications due to their exceptional generation ability. However, many existing methods are training-required. They need to train a time-dependent classifier or a condition-dependent score estimator, which increases the cost of constructing conditional diffusion models and is inconvenient to transfer across different conditions. Some current works aim to overcome this limitation by proposing training-free solutions, but most can only be applied to a specific category of tasks and not to more general conditions. In this work, we propose a training-Free conditional Diffusion Model (FreeDoM) used for various conditions. Specifically, we leverage off-the-shelf pretrained networks, such as a face detection model, to construct time-independent energy functions, which guide the generation process without requiring training. Furthermore, because the construction of the energy function is very flexible and adaptable to various conditions, our proposed FreeDoM has a broader range of applications than existing training-free methods. FreeDoM is advantageous in its simplicity, effectiveness, and low cost. Experiments demonstrate that FreeDoM is effective for various conditions and suitable for diffusion models of diverse data domains, including image and latent code domains. | 2023 | Null-Space Diffusion Sampling for Zero-Shot Point Cloud CompletionabstractPoint cloud completion aims at estimating the complete data of objects from degraded observations. Despite existing completion methods achieving impressive performances, they rely heavily on degraded-complete data pairs for supervision. In this work, we propose a novel framework named Null-Space Diffusion Sampling (NSDS) to solve the point cloud completion task in a zero-shot manner. By leveraging a pre-trained point cloud diffusion model as the off-the-shelf generator, our sampling approach can generate desired completion outputs with the guidance of the observed degraded data without any extra training. Furthermore, we propose a tolerant loop mechanism to improve the quality of completion results for hard cases. Experimental results demonstrate our zero-shot framework achieves superior completion performance than unsupervised methods and comparable performance to supervised methods in various degraded situations. | 2023 | DEAR-GAN: Degradation-Aware Face Restoration With GAN PriorabstractWith the development of generative adversarial networks (GANs), recent face restoration (FR) methods often utilize pre-trained GAN models (i.e.,, StyleGAN2) as prior to generate rich details. However, these methods usually struggle to balance realness and fidelity when facing various degradation levels. In this paper, we propose a novel DEgradation-Aware Restoration network with GAN prior, dubbed DEAR-GAN, for FR tasks by explicitly learning the degradation representations (DR) to adapt to various degradation. Specifically, an unsupervised degradation representation learning (UDRL) strategy is first developed to extract DR of the input degraded images. Then, a degradation-aware feature interpolation (DAFI) module is proposed to dynamically fuse the two types of informative features (i.e.,, features from degraded images and features from GAN prior network) with flexible adaption to various degradation based on DR. Extensive experiments show that our proposed DEAR-GAN outperforms the state-of-the-art methods for face restoration under multiple degradation and face super-resolution, and demonstrate the effectiveness of feature interpolation, which can be extended to face inpainting to achieve excellent results. | 2022 | Panini-Net: GAN Prior Based Degradation-Aware Feature Interpolation for Face RestorationabstractEmerging high-quality face restoration (FR) methods often utilize pre-trained GAN models (i.e., StyleGAN2) as GAN Prior. However, these methods usually struggle to balance realness and fidelity when facing various degradation levels. Besides, there is still a noticeable visual quality gap compared with pre-trained GAN models. In this paper, we propose a novel GAN Prior based degradation-aware feature interpolation network, dubbed Panini-Net, for FR tasks by explicitly learning the abstract representations to distinguish various degradations. Specifically, an unsupervised degradation representation learning (UDRL) strategy is first developed to extract degradation representations (DR) of the input degraded images. Then, a degradation-aware feature interpolation (DAFI) module is proposed to dynamically fuse the two types of informative features (i.e., features from input images and features from GAN Prior) with flexible adaption to various degradations based on DR. Ablation studies reveal the working mechanism of DAFI and its potential for editable FR. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our Panini-Net achieves state-of-the-art performance for multi-degradation face restoration and face super-resolution.
