2024 Multimodal Clickbait Detection by De-confounding Biases Using Causal Representation Inference
abstract
This paper focuses on detecting clickbait posts on the Web.These posts often use eye-catching disinformation in mixed modalities to mislead users to click for profit. That affects the user experience and thus would be blocked by content provider. To escape detection, malicious creators use tricks to add some irrelevant nonbait content into bait posts, dressing them up as legal to fool the detector. This content often has biased relations with non-bait labels, yet traditional detectors tend to make predictions based on simple co-occurrence rather than grasping inherent factors that lead to malicious behavior. This spurious bias would easily cause misjudgments. To address this problem, we propose a new debiased method based on causal inference. We first employ a set of features in multiple modalities to characterize the posts.Considering these features are often mixed up with unknown biases, we then disentangle three kinds of latent factors from them, including the invariant factor that indicates intrinsic bait intention; the causal factor which reflects deceptive patterns in a certain scenario, and non-causal noise.By eliminating the noise that causes bias, we can use invariant and causal factors to build a robust model with good generalization ability.Experiments on three popular datasets show the effectiveness of our approach.

2019 Differentially Private Release of the Distribution of Clustering Coefficients across Communities
abstract
Aiming to provide more information about the behaviors between groups or patterns between clusters in social networks, we propose a two-step differentially private method to release the distribution of clustering coefficients across communities. The DPLM algorithm improves a Louvain method to partition one network using an exponential mechanism. We introduce an absolute gain of modularity to sanitize neighboring communities. Otherwise, the algorithm is difficult to converge due to the randomness introduced. The DPCC algorithm charts the noisy distribution of clustering coefficients as a histogram, which presents the results in an intuitive manner. We conduct experiments on three real-world datasets to evaluate the proposed method. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method provides valuable distribution results while guaranteeing ε -differential privacy. Moreover, the DPLM algorithm can obtain better modularity for the networks.

2017 Differential Privacy for Edge Weights in Social Networks
abstract
Social networks can be analyzed to discover important social issues; however, it will cause privacy disclosure in the process. The edge weights play an important role in social graphs, which are associated with sensitive information (e.g., the price of commercial trade). In the paper, we propose the MB-CI (Merging Barrels and Consistency Inference) strategy to protect weighted social graphs. By viewing the edge-weight sequence as an unattributed histogram, differential privacy for edge weights can be implemented based on the histogram. Considering that some edges have the same weight in a social network, we merge the barrels with the same count into one group to reduce the noise required. Moreover, k -indistinguishability between groups is proposed to fulfill differential privacy not to be violated, because simple merging operation may disclose some information by the magnitude of noise itself. For keeping most of the shortest paths unchanged, we do consistency inference according to original order of the sequence as an important postprocessing step. Experimental results show that the proposed approach effectively improved the accuracy and utility of the released data.

2015 Peacock: Learning Long-Tail Topic Features for Industrial Applications
abstract
Latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) is a popular topic modeling technique in academia but less so in industry, especially in large-scale applications involving search engine and online advertising systems. A main underlying reason is that the topic models used have been too small in scale to be useful; for example, some of the largest LDA models reported in literature have up to 10 3 topics, which difficultly cover the long-tail semantic word sets. In this article, we show that the number of topics is a key factor that can significantly boost the utility of topic-modeling systems. In particular, we show that a “big” LDA model with at least 10 5 topics inferred from 10 9 search queries can achieve a significant improvement on industrial search engine and online advertising systems, both of which serve hundreds of millions of users. We develop a novel distributed system called Peacock to learn big LDA models from big data. The main features of Peacock include hierarchical distributed architecture, real-time prediction, and topic de-duplication. We empirically demonstrate that the Peacock system is capable of providing significant benefits via highly scalable LDA topic models for several industrial applications.

2013 Genetic Algorithm-Based 3D Coverage Research in Wireless Sensor Networks
abstract
The coverage problem of networks is one of the key issues researched in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). To find the optimal coverage solution of sensor networks is a pressing concern now. The terrain of the detection area is often more complex in the applications of three-dimensional sensor networks. In this paper, a new network coverage and optimization control strategy based on genetic algorithm is proposed to solve the deterministic coverage problem of sensor nodes. The fitness function of the associated genetic algorithm is determined on a two-dimensional plane and iterations are utilized to find optimal solutions. The simulations and results indicate that the coverage strategy is an efficient coverage strategy for the three-dimensional terrain.
