2026 Observability and Fault Injection for LLM-Based Multi-Agent Systems in Software Engineering
abstract
Large Language Model-based multi-agent systems are increasingly explored for software engineering tasks, but they remain difficult to inspect, debug, and evaluate under controlled failures. We present llmmas-otel, a lightweight and framework-agnostic tool that combines OpenTelemetry-based distributed tracing with fault injection for LLM-based multi-agent systems in software engineering workflows. The tool instruments agent executions with trace-aligned telemetry across workflow phases, agent steps, inter-agent communication, tool calls, and LLM invocations, and supports targeted fault injection at selected interaction points. This makes it possible to compare baseline and faulty executions in a reproducible way and inspect the effects through aligned traces and run artifacts. We describe the motivation, architecture, implementation, current capabilities, and initial validation of the tool on a minimal demo workflow and a real LLM-based multi-agent system for software development.

2023 Bus Factor Explorer
abstract
Bus factor (BF) is a metric that tracks knowledge distribution in a project. It is the minimal number of engineers that have to leave for a project to stall. Despite the fact that there are several algorithms for calculating the bus factor, only a few tools allow easy calculation of bus factor and convenient analysis of results for projects hosted on Git-based providers. We introduce Bus Factor Explorer, a web application that provides an interface and an API to compute, export, and explore the Bus Factor metric via treemap visualization, simulation mode, and chart editor. It supports repositories hosted on GitHub and enables functionality to search repositories in the interface and process many repositories at the same time. Our tool allows users to identify the files and subsystems at risk of stalling in the event of developer turnover by analyzing the VCS history. The application and its source code are publicly available on GitHub at https://github.com/JetBrains-Research/bus-factor-explorer. 2022 Multimodal Recommendation of Messenger Channels
abstract
Collaboration platforms, such as GitHub and Slack, are a vital instrument in the day-to-day routine of software engineering teams. The data stored in these platforms has a significant value for data-driven methods that assist with decision-making and help improve software quality. However, the distribution of this data across different platforms leads to the fact that combining it is a very time-consuming process. Most existing algorithms for socio-technical assistance, such as recommendation systems, are based only on data directly related to the purpose of the algorithms, often originating from a single system.
