| 2026 | Efficient Memory Alignment for Long-term Conversational Information SeekingabstractLong-term conversational agents rely on personal memory to maintain coherence and personalization, yet practical systems must operate under context budgets and cope with evolving or contradictory user information. We frame persona memory as a retrieval problem over a growing memory store, and propose REMAP, a reflection-guided memory editing approach for online alignment of persona facts that selectively writes and revises memory entries based on the current dialogue evidence and retrieved related items. The method aims to preserve salient facts while reducing redundancy and resolving apparent conflicts, enabling more efficient context utilization over extended interaction horizons. Experiments on multi-session dialogue datasets show consistent gains in persona-consistent retrieval and response continuity over commonly used memory strategies, while achieving more selective memory updates under comparable operational overhead. | 2024 | Demo: Ara Pawr Wireless Living Lab for Smart and Connected Rural CommunitiesabstractARA is an at-scale Platform for Advanced Wireless Research (PAWR), specifically tailored to the unique community, application, and economic context of rural regions. It features the first-of-its-kind real-world implementation of long-distance, high-capacity wireless backhaul and access systems spanning over 30 km in diameter. Leveraging both software-defined radios and programmable Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) systems, ARA orchestrates the wireless resources alongside the networking and compute resources for enabling end-to-end experiments involving user equipment, base stations, edge computing, and cloud infrastructure. Such an integration facilitates the coevolution of rural-focused wireless innovation and applications, while helping to advance the frontiers of advanced Next-G wireless systems such as Open RAN. As of summer 2024, ARA is publicly accessible with 7 base stations (BSes) and over 30 user equipment (UEs). In this demo, we share advanced wireless research experiments enabled by ARA, involving MU-MIMO in TV White Space (TVWS) bands, long-range mmWave and microwave backhaul communications, and open-source 5G NR protocol stacks such as srsRAN and OpenAirInterface (OAI). | 2023 | FARSI: An Early-stage Design Space Exploration Framework to Tame the Domain-specific System-on-chip ComplexityabstractDomain-specific SoCs (DSSoCs) are an attractive solution for domains with extremely stringent power, performance, and area constraints. However, DSSoCs suffer from two fundamental complexities. On the one hand, their many specialized hardware blocks result in complex systems and thus high development effort. On the other hand, their many system knobs expand the complexity of design space, making the search for the optimal design difficult. Thus to reach prevalence, taming such complexities is necessary. To address these challenges, in this work, we identify the necessary features of an early-stage design space exploration framework that targets the complex design space of DSSoCs and provide an instance of one such framework that we refer to as FARSI. FARSI provides an agile system-level simulator with speed up and accuracy of 8,400× and 98.5% compared to Synopsys Platform Architect. FARSI also provides an efficient exploration heuristic and achieves up to 62× and 35× improvement in convergence time compared to the classic simulated annealing (SA) and modern Multi-Objective Optimistic Search. This is done by augmenting SA with architectural reasoning such as locality exploitation and bottleneck relaxation. Furthermore, we embed various co-design capabilities and show that, on average, they have a 32% impact on the convergence rate. Finally, we demonstrate that using development-cost-aware policies can lower the system complexity, both in terms of the component count and variation by as much as 60% and 82% (e.g., for Network-on-a-Chip subsystem), respectively. | 2021 | Human factors evaluation in VR-based shunting trainingabstractAbstract Shunting of trains is a task that requires meticulous adherence to all steps to guarantee safety for everyone involved during and after the procedure. These steps are currently taught using classical teaching materials, such as printouts, videos and training by experienced supervisors. However, due to limited availability of locomotives, hours for training and manpower, training of shunting operation becomes challenging in real life. In this paper, we implemented a lifelike, collaborative virtual environment for shunting training including a novel human factors evaluation system for fatigue and stress monitoring. An experiment with 12 subjects and 3 trainers has been designed and carried out to validate the usage of VR-based shunting training. Positive feedback toward the VR-based training was obtained from the subjects and trainers. | 2014 | Solving fuzzy programming with a consistent fuzzy number rankingabstractSome illustrative examples are provided to identify the ineffective and unrealistic characteristics of existing approaches to solving fuzzy linear programming (FLP) problems (with single or multiple objectives). We point out the error in existing methods concerning the ranking of fuzzy numbers and thence suggest an effective method to solve the FLP. Based on the consistent centroid-based ranking of fuzzy numbers, the FLP problems are transformed into non-fuzzy single (or multiple) objective linear programming. Solutions of FLP are then crisp single or multiple objective programming problems, which can respectively be obtained by conventional methods. | 2012 | A mixed-signal EEG interface circuit for use in first year electronics coursesabstractIn their first electronics course, many students find operational amplifiers, analog filters and sensor interface circuitry perplexing and daunting. The purpose of this paper is to present a circuit that addresses these pitfalls. A simplified electroencephelogram (EEG) circuit that is interfaced to a digital backend is proposed. The completed circuit involves using instrumentation amplifiers and filters for the EEG interface. The digital backend helps analyze EEG data on the computer.
