| 2015 | Multigroup Testing for Items With Real-Valued Status Under Standard ArithmeticabstractMotivated by applications in molecular biology and genotyping, this paper proposes a novel model of group testing for identifying items with real-valued status using nonbinary pooling designs under standard arithmetic observation. The purpose is to learn more information of each item to be tested rather than identify only which ones are defectives as was done in conventional group testing. This paper provides several efficiently decodable nonadaptive strategies for the considered problem. The major tool is a new structure called q-ary additive (w, d)-disjunct matrix, which is related to known structures: 1) the conventional disjunct matrix by Kautz and Singleton 1964 and 2) the SQ-disjunct matrix by Emad and Milenkovic 2012. | 2006 | On Multicast Rearrangeable 3-stage Clos Networks Without First-Stage Fan-OutabstractFor the multicast rearrangeable 3-stage Clos networks where input crossbars do not have fan-out capability, Kirkpatrick, Klawe, and Pippenger gave a sufficient condition and also a necessary condition which differs from the sufficient condition by a factor of 2. In this paper, we first tighten their conditions. Then we propose a new necessary condition based on the affine plane such that the necessary condition matches the sufficient condition for an infinite class of 3-stage Clos networks. | 1989 | The decision controlled adaptive LMS Tauberian deconvolutionabstractA method is proposed for modeling a measured signal as the output of an all-pole linear system with noncausal impulse response. The signal model parameters and the exciting signal are obtained by the decision controlled adaptive (DCA) least-mean-squares (LMS) algorithm. The complete solution can be obtained when only the output of the model is known. Its features and advantages with respect to other techniques are pointed out.> Zhao-Xiong Wu, Hong-Bin Chen |

| 1989 | A new adaptive classified transform coding method [image coding]abstractAn efficient discrete cosine transform technique using a new adaptive feature for bandwidth compression is described. Taking account of human visual characteristics and transform coefficient statistics, the higher activity region is further classified into four subclasses according to four proposed basic patterns, while the lower activity region is assigned to four subclasses according to its AC-energy (image activity) distribution. Computer simulations shows that the proposed adaptive coder exhibits a performance improvement of 1 dB or more over conventional adaptive coders at the same coding rates.> Song-Yu Yu, Hong-Bin Chen |

| 1987 | Removing part of the origin of the non-minimum-phase behavior of seismic data sequence in chirp-excited seismic exploration systemsabstractThe non-minimum-phase behavior of a seismic recording can be removed partly by suitably slimming the auto-correlation function of the vibrator's exciting signal when the composite motional system's impulse response interval length as counted up to the points of noticeable relative magnitude is great as compared with the main-lobe width of the exciting signal's auto-correlation function. The slimming operation is implemented by passing the seismic recording through a slimming filter effected by a computer. Slimming filters can be designed by using optimization procedures with object functions of various subjectively chosen weight functions and also by applying the Widrow-Hoff adaptation algorithm to approximate the slimming function. The improvement effect of such a kind of partial removal of the non-minimum-phase behavior from the field data on the outcome of deconvolvers will be given elsewhere. Hong-Bin Chen, Jianrong Chen |
