| 2024 | Sampled-Data H∞ Dynamic Output-Feedback Control for NCSs With Successive Packet Losses and Stochastic SamplingabstractThe problem of sampled-data$H_{\infty}$dynamic output-feedback control for networked control systems with successive packet losses (SPLs) and stochastic sampling is investigated in this article. The aim of using sampled-data control techniques is to alleviate network congestion. SPLs that occur in the sensor-to-controller (S-C) and controller-to-actuator (C-A) channels are modeled using a packet loss model. Additionally, it is assumed that stochastic sampling follows a Bernoulli distribution. A model is established to capture the stochastic characteristics of both the SPL model and stochastic sampling. This model is crucial as it allows us to determine the probability distribution of the sampling interval between successive update instants, which is essential for stability analysis. An exponential mean-square stability condition for the constructed equivalent discrete-time stochastic system, which also guarantees the prescribed$H_{\infty}$performance, is established by incorporating probability theory. The desired controller is designed using a step-by-step synthesis approach, which may offer lower design conservatism compared to some existing methods. Finally, our designed approach using a networked F-404 engine system model is validated and its merits relative to existing results are discussed. The proposed method is finally validated by employing a networked model of the F-404 engine system. Furthermore, the advantages of our method are presented in comparison to previous results. | 2024 | Modeling and Control of Discrete-Time T-S Fuzzy Systems Subject to Stochastic Packet DropoutsabstractThe aim of this article is to address the modeling and control problems of discrete-time Takagi–Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems that are affected by stochastic packet dropouts. To describe the stochastic behavior of packet dropout between the sensor–controller and controller–actuator, a consecutive packet dropout model is employed. By treating consecutive packet dropouts (CPDs) as an extension of the transmission interval, the considered T-S system is transformed into a stochastic system with bounded stochastic input delay. In addition, a novel equivalent model for the closed-loop system is proposed, which captures the nonuniform distribution of the input delay caused by CPDs. Using the obtained equivalent model, it is possible to evaluate the probability distribution of each stochastic input delay value using the formula for total probability. This approach allows us to fully consider the probability information of CPDs in subsequent stability analysis and controller design. Based on this model, delay-probability dependent stability conditions are derived using stochastic Lyapunov functionals, and controller design conditions are also provided. Finally, the correctness and conservatism reduction of the proposed design method are demonstrated using numerical examples of two physical systems described by T-S fuzzy models. | 2008 | Routing of XML and XPath Queries in Data Dissemination NetworksabstractXML-based data dissemination networks are rapidly gaining momentum. In these networks XML content is routed from data producers to data consumers throughout an overlay network of content-based routers. Routing decisions are based on XPath expressions (XPEs) stored at each router. To enable efficient routing, while keeping the routing state small, we introduce an advertisement-based routing algorithm for XML content, present a novel data structure for managing XPEs, especially apt for the hierarchical nature of XPEs and XML, and develop several optimizations for reducing the number of XPEs required to manage the routing state. The experimental evaluation shows that our algorithms and optimizations reduce the routing table size by up to 90%, improve the routing time by roughly 85%, and reduce overall network traffic by about 35%. Experiments running on PlanetLab show the scalability of our approach. Guoli Li 0002, Shuang Hou, Hans-Arno Jacobsen |

| 2007 | XML Routing in Data Dissemination NetworksabstractThis paper addresses the XML/XPath content-based routing problem. More specifically, this paper focuses on the problem of efficiently routing an XML document emitted from a data producers at one point in the network to a set of data consumers located anywhere throughout the network. Prior to receiving XML documents, consumers must have expressed interest in receiving XML documents by registering XPEs with the network. This problem statement is akin to the well-known publish/subscribe matching problem. However, the main difference here is that in the case of data dissemination networks there exists no one single centralized publish/subscribe system, but a network of content-based routers (i.e., a network or federation of publish/subscribe systems). | 2006 | Predicate-based Filtering of XPath ExpressionsabstractThe XML/XPath filtering problem has found wide-spread interest. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for solving it. Our approach encodes XPath expressions (XPEs) as ordered sets of predicates and translates XML documents into sets of tuples, which are evaluated over these predicates. Predicates representing overlapping portions of XPEs are stored and processed once, thus fully exploiting potential overlap in XPEs. We experimentally evaluate the performance of our algorithm, demonstrating its scalability to millions of XPEs, with matching performance in the millisecond range. We show interesting trade-offs to alternative approaches. Shuang Hou, Hans-Arno Jacobsen |

| 2005 | A Unified Approach to Routing, Covering and Merging in Publish/Subscribe Systems Based on Modified Binary Decision DiagramsabstractThe challenge faced by content-based publish/subscribe systems is the ability to handle a vast amount of dynamic information with limited system resources. In current p/s systems, each subscription is processed in isolation. Neither relationships among individual subscriptions are exploited, nor historic information about subscriptions and publications is taken into account. We believe that this neglect limits overall system efficiency. In this paper, we represent subscriptions using modified binary decision diagrams (MBDs), and design an index data structure to maintain distinct predicates and manage associated Boolean variables. Our MBD-based approach can address, in a unified way, publication routing and subscription/advertisement covering and merging. We propose a novel covering algorithm based on MBDs. The algorithm can take historic information about subscription and publication populations into account and exploits relations between subscriptions. We explore merging, especially imperfect merging, and discuss an advertisement-based optimization applicable to subscription merging Guoli Li 0002, Shuang Hou, Hans-Arno Jacobsen |
