| 2025 | How Organizational Electronic Performance Monitoring Affects Employee Proactive Behaviors: The Psychological Reactance PerspectiveabstractNowadays, numerous enterprises are actively adopting electronic performance monitoring (EPM) systems with the goal of enhancing organizational performance by stimulating employee proactive behavior. However, some companies have reported that the EPM system didn't achieve the expected results and even led to the opposite. To address this paradoxical phenomenon, we employed psychological reactance theory to investigate the impacts of employee differentiate perceptions of EPM (developmental EPM [DEPM] and preventive EPM [PEPM]) on individual psychological and behavior reactance. By conducting a three-wave survey questionnaire among 446 corporate employees, we find that DEPM facilitates proactive behavior, while PEPM inhibits such behaviors; Second, psychological reactance mediates the relationships among DEPM, PEPM, and proactive behavior; Third, individual trait mindfulness positively (negatively) moderates the impact of DEPM (PEPM) on psychological reactance. This research elucidates the effects of EPM on proactive behavior, providing valuable information to support attempts to refine digitally driven monitoring models within organizations. | 2022 | Social media on blended learning: the effect of rapport and motivationabstractNew media technology can effectively support teacher–student rapport. In this study, Chinese students befriended their teachers on social media, and we compared their blended learning (N=455) based on this social media interaction with face-to-face learning (N=450). The results indicate that affective learning and cognitive learning in blended learning were superior to face-to-face learning. However, no significant differences in social presence, academic self-concept, or grade point average were observed between blended learning and face-to-face learning. According to a multi-group structural equation modelling analysis, the mediating effect of affective learning in blended learning was superior to that in face-to-face learning; in addition, academic self-concept significantly influenced cognitive learning. No significant difference was found for grade point average. Finally, we propose blended learning related suggestions regarding how to trigger students’ connection need and inspire their wisdom and potential. Wenzhi Zheng, Yen-Chun Jim Wu |

| 2021 | Discovering Curriculum Components for a New Product Development Course: A Latent Semantic ApproachabstractPresently, new product development is deemed the core activity of an organization's competitive strategy, but there is a surprising dearth of research on what curriculum components should be embedded in the new product development course. This study aims to introduce a methodology that can carry out curriculum design with limited prior knowledge. First, latent semantic analysis is applied to extract the main research themes from the subject matter literature, which are considered as potential curriculum components. Next, the revised Bloom's taxonomy is applied to develop a questionnaire for establishing the learning objectives. Finally, the study uses the modified Delphi method to verify the eligibility of these curriculum components, concluding that the most effective approach for imparting knowledge and skills regarding new product development is to adopt a capstone course and equip students with creativity and advanced technology and design for sustainability through a project-based learning approach. | 2021 | Multivariate Time Series Data Clustering Method Based on Dynamic Time Warping and Affinity PropagationabstractIn view of the importance of various components and asynchronous shapes of multivariate time series, a clustering method based on dynamic time warping and affinity propagation is proposed. From the two perspectives of the global and local properties information of multivariate time series, the relationship between the data objects is described. It uses dynamic time warping to measure the similarity between original time series data and obtain the similarity between the corresponding components. Moreover, it also uses the affinity propagation to cluster based on the similarity matrices and, respectively, establishes the correlation matrices for various components and the whole information of multivariate time series. In addition, we further put forward the synthetical correlation matrix to better reflect the relationship between multivariate time series data. Again the affinity propagation algorithm is applied to clustering the synthetical correlation matrix, which realizes the clustering analysis of the original multivariate time series data. Numerical experimental results demonstrate that the efficiency of the proposed method is superior to the traditional ones. Xiaoji Wan, Hailin Li, Yen-Chun Jim Wu |

| 2019 | Effects of social-interactive engagement on the dropout ratio in online learning: insights from MOOCabstractIn online learning, the high dropout ratio is a serious problem and reflects a poor level of motivation in e-learning programmes. Social-interactive engagement may greatly affect users’ attitudes and choices in many fields; among these, online learning is inevitably impacted by factors such as social connections. To study the impact of social-interactive engagement on the dropout ratio and learning progress, iMOOC was employed as the study object using data from 619 courses and 2,071,147 learners, as well as 19,451,428 learning records. As engagement is a process of collecting experiences, the learner’s experience plays a significant role in reducing the dropout ratio. Social-interactive engagement helps to reduce the dropout ratio; thus, learners should be encouraged to engage in online activities, such as discussions, note sharing, commenting and Q&A, to alleviate the feelings of being disconnected and isolated. Through an empirical study, we also find that the longer a learner's registered time is, the lower the dropout ratio. From the perspective of the courses themselves, the dropout ratios of shorter or more difficult courses are lower than those of longer or less-difficult courses. This paper provides theoretical and practical recommendations for reducing the dropout ratio in online learning and improving learning efficiency. | 2019 | Entrepreneurship in the Internet Age: Internet, Entrepreneurs, and Capital ResourcesabstractWith the rapidly expanding Internet economy, new business operation models are emerging. Entrepreneurship and innovative business models have become a point of special interest in the Internet era, and are also drawing attention from scholars. This study used three perspectives to explore issues that require understanding in the Internet age in order to improve the survival rate and sustainable development of entrepreneurship. The three perspectives included the differences between the Internet age and traditional entrepreneurship, the personal characteristics of entrepreneurs, and the capital resources and financing of entrepreneurs. Through this study, readers can better understand the key success factors in the dynamic entrepreneurship process and engage in further related discussions. | 2017 | Attitudes towards the use of information and communication technology in management educationabstractInformation and communication technology (ICT) tools are being increasingly used to facilitate teaching in educational institutions. This study examined the attitudes of students and instructors towards using ICT tools in management education. Immediately after conducting workshops that introduced 11 ICT tools used in classroom settings, questionnaires were administered to students and instructors from three public universities in Taiwan. Responses of 242 students and 46 instructors regarding 5 domains of ICT tools – feedback, classroom mobility, publishing, collaboration, and social media – were analysed to investigate their attitude towards the use of ICT. The results revealed that students perceived the ICT tools of collaboration and social media to be helpful in learning and in increasing their future employment; in addition, the teachers found these ICT tools to be useful. Therefore, by integrating collaboration and social media in teaching and course design, teachers can enhance student participation and link students’ learning to their future employment. | 2006 | Technological innovation assessment of business-to-business electronic marketplacesabstractAbstract Business opportunities created by the Internet economy and new business methods have triggered the development of the electronic or e‐marketplace, and vice versa. To generate competitive new products/services, Internet firms need to have access to detailed technological innovations to compete. Despite the wealth of literature on e‐marketplaces, research on patent analyses in e‐marketplaces is scarce. The patent is a crucial indicator of the technological competitiveness of a company or a nation. This study provides a preliminary step in depicting a holistic picture of technological innovations associated with e‐marketplace patents. This study analyzes patents issued during the period of 1990–2002 from major databases; hence, it provides the first empirical study on e‐marketplaces and related innovations holistically. A comprehensive set of statistical patent analyses and a discussion on e‐marketplaces' technology by means of a patent map analysis are presented. Yen-Chun Jim Wu, Hsing-Piao Liu |
