| 2024 | Dynamic Development of Artificial Intelligence Models with CI/CD Environment - a Case StudyabstractCurrently, the IT market is promoting the use of cloud resources to build solutions using machine learning. Some projects require full independence from external resources, mainly due to the volatility of prices for renting computing power and services provided by the cloud. The paper presents the creation process of scalable “on-premise” environment en-abling the construction and development of artificial intelligence systems in the field of natural language processing. The proposed approach was based on aspects related to containerization, scalability, and automation of the machine learning process. Therefore, the created “on-premise” environment can be used in the implementation and delivery of systems based on artificial intelligence. | 2023 | PrivBCS: a privacy-preserving and efficient crowdsourcing system with fine-grained worker selection based on blockchainabstractCrowdsourcing takes advantage of human intelligence to solve complex problems that computers cannot handle. People actively participate in computational tasks for rewards, especially those that are relatively simple for humans but challenging for computers. However, most traditional crowdsourcing systems must rely on a central organisation to handle the work associated with crowdsourcing. This may lead to privacy and security issues such as information leakage, single point of attack and unfair judgement. Meanwhile, the high service fees of existing central crowdsourcing platforms will reduce people's motivation to participate in crowdsourcing tasks. Consequently, PrivBCS is proposed in this paper, a blockchain-based decentralised crowdsourcing system that does not rely on third-party agencies and requires only low transaction fees. In this paper, PrivBCS protects the confidentiality of crowdsourcing data and the identity privacy of participants by cryptographic means, such as Paillier, El-Gamal and CPABE. It selects the most suitable worker to perform tasks by setting access control policies on task data and matching workers' attributes while ensuring the anonymity of workers' identity. Considering that the data volume of crowdsourcing tasks may be large and there is a certain upper limit to the block capacity of the blockchain, an on-chain and off-chain collaborative storage scheme is proposed, which can increase the throughput of the blockchain system and improve its scalability to a certain extent. In PrivBCS, we implement the transaction process of crowdsourcing tasks through smart contracts. The experimental results and security analysis in this paper demonstrate the effectiveness, efficiency, and feasibility of PrivBCS. | 2022 | Code-based encryption algorithms for generating and verifying digital signatureabstractIn today's Internet, the security of data exchange is possible almost entirely thanks to the RSA algorithm. The asymmetric cryptographic algorithm with the public key allows you to safely make bank transfers or send documents to offices. Digitally signing documents and website certificates would not be possible without it. The theoretical threat to RSA is the Shor algorithm, which is a quantum algorithm that enables prime factorization of the natural number ℵ.The paper presents the analysis of code-based encryption algorithms and their use in generating and verifying a digital signature. These algorithms were implemented and compared in selected digital signature applications. The issues related to correction coding and their application in code-based cryptography were reviewed, the use of code-coding algorithms in generating and verifying the digital signature was analysed and their implementation in order to verify correct operation. | 2022 | Impact of software development processes on the outcomes of student computing projects: A tale of two universitiesabstractProject-based courses are more and more commonly used as an opportunity to teach students structured methods of developing software. Two well-known approaches in this area – traditional and Agile – have been successfully applied to drive academic projects. However too often the default is still to have no organizational process at all. While a large variety of software development life-cycle models exists, little guidance is available on which one to choose to fit the context of working with students. This paper assesses the impact of iterative, sequential and “hands-off” development approaches on the success of student computing projects. A structured, metric-based assessment scheme was applied to investigate team productivity, teamwork and the quality of the final product. Empirical evidence was collected during a controlled experiment carried out at two engineering schools in Europe. More than 100 students at Bachelor’s and Master’s levels participated in the research, with varied software development and teamwork skill sets. Similar patterns were observed among both sets of subjects, with iterative teams demonstrating the highest productivity and superior team cohesion but a decline in the quality of the final product. Sequential development led to a considerable improvement in the external quality characteristics of the software produced, owing to the method’s stress on design activities. The findings of this study will be of use to educators interested in applying software development processes to student groupwork. A set of guidelines is provided for applying a structured way of working in a project-based course. Rafal Wlodarski, Aneta Poniszewska-Maranda, Jean-Rémy Falleri |

| 2021 | Mechanisms for Transition from Monolithic to Distributed Architecture in Software Development ProcessabstractAlmost every enterprise functions thanks to IT systems in various ways – for example, in the context of process automation, cost reduction or increasing work efficiency. Appropriate construction of the architecture and adapting it to the conditions in which the system will operate is crucial for achieving the desired quality factors. This work focuses on the problem of transforming the existing systems operating in monolithic architecture into the architecture of distributed systems. The key element is the developed set of steps through which the transformation of the architecture in a given enterprise will increase the chances of the success of such an undertaking and help make important design and organisational decisions. The proposed plan was also tested on the example of an existing IT company. Aneta Poniszewska-Maranda, Joanna Macioch, Bozena Borowska, Witold Maranda |

| 2021 | Security Library for Safe Data Storage on Android PlatformabstractSmartphones have become an integral part of everyday human life. In addition to the usual activities such as phone calls and text messages, users are increasingly turning to e-banking, e-commerce or healthcare. The Android operating system offers a number of mechanisms and good practices related to the creation of secure applications, but research shows that there are still many vulnerabilities. The paper contains an overview of the currently existing methods of securing data stored on the Android platform, threats related to the discussed system and a proposition for their elimination in the form of the Android Secure library, which facilitates the management of dangerous application rights, validation of data entered and provides an additional layer of security using one-time password or device location. The proposed solution eliminates only selected problems that the Android system has, but of course the best form of security is a qualified team creating the application and users' awareness of existing threats. | 2021 | Secure Development Strategy Model Framework for Security of Mobile ApplicationsabstractThe growing popularity of mobile technologies and mobile systems, especially Android system, brings many possibilities. Using the mobile application, it is possible to make bank transfers, communicate with patients for applications used in medicine and many others. Popularity, unfortunately, also brings many risks. With the development of the Internet and information technology, the range of opportunities for cyber-criminals has developed. With the increasing popularity of systems and mobile devices, we can also observe an increase in attacks and the number of malicious software targeted for these technologies. The development of the mobile application fulfills more and more important role in the everyday lives of the visibly growing number of smartphone and tablet users, especially from the point of view of security aspects. The paper presents an outline of the proposed secure development model to overcome the existing threats faced by the mobile application developers and its implementation in the form of the mobile security framework. | 2020 | Security methods against Black Hole attacks in Vehicular Ad-Hoc NetworkabstractVehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANET) are liable to the Black, Worm and Gray Hole attacks because of the broadcast nature of the wireless medium and a lack of authority standards. Black Hole attack covers the situation when a malicious node uses its routing protocol in order to publicize itself for having the shortest route to the destination node. This aggressive node publicizes its availability of fresh routes regardless of checking its routing table. The consequences of these attacks could lead not only to the broken infrastructure, but could cause hammering people's lives. This paper aims to investigate and compare methods for preventing such types of attacks in a VANET. Krzysztof Stepien, Aneta Poniszewska-Maranda |

| 2019 | Applying a Traditional Software Development Process to Drive Projects in Higher EducationabstractAs institutions of higher education attempt to professionalize their curricula, we observe the emergence of learning experiences that simulate industrial software projects and stronger focus on the skill set desired by the industry. A common practice to address that need is to introduce a capstone unit where students complete large assignments in teams and consolidate previously acquired concepts and skills. Increasingly, such projects are supported by a given software development methodology in order to familiarize students with these processes and facilitate implementation. While the growing prevalence of Agile methods in the industry is reflected in a proliferation of studies of their use in academic contexts, the application of traditional approaches does not capture much attention in research. This experience report discusses the introduction of a Waterfall model to support student teams developing Artificial Conversational Entities for an industrial client. The course structure and accompanying methods, adaptations of the process, lessons learned and recommendations for academics wishing to use a traditional method as part of a university class are presented. Our study shows that such an approach yields promising results for complex and state-of-the-art projects and practices associated with it enforce students' software-engineering skills. | 2019 | Security solution methods in the Vehicular Ad-Hoc NetworksabstractThe vehicles that are currently manufactured have become increasingly related to the Internet, supporting a range of recent features that are valuable towards both automakers and drivers. Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANET) have recently emerged collectively of the solutions that would facilitate connecting many cars to the vast network. Not solely it may preserve the protection, but also the efficiency of the traffic. However, VANETs themselves are prone to attacks. Those attacks could directly cause the corruption of networks and so presumably provoke a substantial loss of driver's time, money, and even their lives. The paper focuses on the Timing and Bogus attacks and presents the attainable solutions that would solve the safety leaks in the vehicle networks. Krzysztof Stepien, Aneta Poniszewska-Maranda |
