2025 3DOT: Texture Transfer for 3DGS Objects from a Single Reference Image
abstract
Image-based 3D texture transfer from a single 2D reference image enables practical customization of 3D object appearances with minimal manual effort. Adapted 2D editing and text-driven 3D editing approaches can serve this purpose. However, 2D editing typically involves frame-by-frame manipulation, often resulting in inconsistencies across views, while text-driven 3D editing struggles to preserve texture characteristics from reference images. To tackle these challenges, we introduce \textbf{3DOT}, a \textbf{3D} Gaussian Splatting \textbf{O}bject \textbf{T}exture Transfer method based on a single reference image, integrating: 1) progressive generation, 2) view-consistency gradient guidance, and 3) prompt-tuned gradient guidance. To ensure view consistency, progressive generation starts by transferring texture from the reference image and gradually propagates it to adjacent views. View-consistency gradient guidance further reinforces coherence by conditioning the generation model on feature differences between consistent and inconsistent outputs. To preserve texture characteristics, prompt-tuning-based gradient guidance learns a token that describes differences between original and reference textures, guiding the transfer for faithful texture preservation across views. Overall, 3DOT combines these strategies to achieve effective texture transfer while maintaining structural coherence across viewpoints. Extensive qualitative and quantitative evaluations confirm that our three components enable convincing and effective 2D-to-3D texture transfer. 2023 Class-level Structural Relation Modeling and Smoothing for Visual Representation Learning
abstract
Representation learning for images has been advanced by recent progress in more complex neural models such as the Vision Transformers and new learning theories such as the structural causal models. However, these models mainly rely on the classification loss to implicitly regularize the class-level data distributions, and they may face difficulties when handling classes with diverse visual patterns. We argue that the incorporation of the structural information between data samples may improve this situation. To achieve this goal, this paper presents a framework termed Class-level Structural Relation Modeling and Smoothing for Visual Representation Learning (CSRMS), which includes the Class-level Relation Modelling, Class-aware Graph Sampling, and Relational Graph-Guided Representation Learning modules to model a relational graph of the entire dataset and perform class-aware smoothing and regularization operations to alleviate the issue of intra-class visual diversity and inter-class similarity. Specifically, the Class-level Relation Modelling module uses a clustering algorithm to learn the data distributions in the feature space and identify three types of class-level sample relations for the training set; Class-aware Graph Sampling module extends typical training batch construction process with three strategies to sample dataset-level sub-graphs; and Relational Graph-Guided Representation Learning module employs a graph convolution network with knowledge-guided smoothing operations to ease the projection from different visual patterns to the same class. Experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of structured knowledge modelling for enhanced representation learning and show that CSRMS can be incorporated with any state-of-the-art visual representation learning models for performance gains. 2022 DENSEN: a convolutional neural network for estimating chronological ages from panoramic radiographs
abstract
BACKGROUND: Age estimation from panoramic radiographs is a fundamental task in forensic sciences. Previous age assessment studies mainly focused on juvenile rather than elderly populations (> 25 years old). Most proposed studies were statistical or scoring-based, requiring wet-lab experiments and professional skills, and suffering from low reliability. RESULT: Based on Soft Stagewise Regression Network (SSR-Net), we developed DENSEN to estimate the chronological age for both juvenile and older adults, based on their orthopantomograms (OPTs, also known as orthopantomographs, pantomograms, or panoramic radiographs). We collected 1903 clinical panoramic radiographs of individuals between 3 and 85 years old to train and validate the model. We evaluated the model by the mean absolute error (MAE) between the estimated age and ground truth. For different age groups, 3-11 (children), 12-18 (teens), 19-25 (young adults), and 25+ (adults), DENSEN produced MAEs as 0.6885, 0.7615, 1.3502, and 2.8770, respectively. Our results imply that the model works in situations where genders are unknown. Moreover, DENSEN has lower errors for the adult group (> 25 years) than other methods. The proposed model is memory compact, consuming about 1.0 MB of memory overhead. CONCLUSIONS: We introduced a novel deep learning approach DENSEN to estimate a subject's age from a panoramic radiograph for the first time. Our approach required less laboratory work compared with existing methods. The package we developed is an open-source tool and applies to all different age groups.

2021 PSSP-MVIRT: peptide secondary structure prediction based on a multi-view deep learning architecture
abstract
The prediction of peptide secondary structures is fundamentally important to reveal the functional mechanisms of peptides with potential applications as therapeutic molecules. In this study, we propose a multi-view deep learning method named Peptide Secondary Structure Prediction based on Multi-View Information, Restriction and Transfer learning (PSSP-MVIRT) for peptide secondary structure prediction. To sufficiently exploit discriminative information, we introduce a multi-view fusion strategy to integrate different information from multiple perspectives, including sequential information, evolutionary information and hidden state information, respectively, and generate a unified feature space. Moreover, we construct a hybrid network architecture of Convolutional Neural Network and Bi-directional Gated Recurrent Unit to extract global and local features of peptides. Furthermore, we utilize transfer learning to effectively alleviate the lack of training samples (peptides with experimentally validated structures). Comparative results on independent tests demonstrate that our proposed method significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods. In particular, our method exhibits better performance at the segment level, suggesting the strong ability of our model in capturing local discriminative information. The case study also shows that our PSSP-MVIRT achieves promising and robust performance in the prediction of new peptide secondary structures. Importantly, we establish a webserver to implement the proposed method, which is currently accessible via http://server.malab.cn/PSSP-MVIRT. We expect it can be a useful tool for the researchers of interest, facilitating the wide use of our method.

2020 Unsupervised Detection of Pulmonary Opacities for Computer-Aided Diagnosis of COVID-19 on CT Images
abstract
COVID-19 emerged towards the end of 2019 which was identified as a global pandemic by the world heath organization (WHO). With the rapid spread of COVID-19, the number of infected and suspected patients has increased dramatically. Chest computed tomography (CT) has been recognized as an efficient tool for the diagnosis of COVID-19. However, the huge CT data make it difficult for radiologist to fully exploit them on the diagnosis. In this paper, we propose a computer-aided diagnosis system that can automatically analyze CT images to distinguish the COVID-19 against to community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). The proposed system is based on an unsupervised pulmonary opacity detection method that locates opacity regions by a detector unsupervisedly trained from CT images with normal lung tissues. Radiomics based features are extracted insides the opacity regions, and fed into classifiers for classification. We evaluate the proposed CAD system by using 200 CT images collected from different patients in several hospitals. The accuracy, precision, recall, f1-score and AUC achieved are 95.5%, 100%, 91%, 95.1% and 95.9% respectively, exhibiting the promising capacity on the differential diagnosis of COVID-19 from CT images.

2019 Uniform Consensus Prone to Omission Failures with Fault Knowledge
abstract
As for uniform consensus prone to omission failures, there are t+1 (t is the number of faulty nodes) round tight lower bound and [n/2]-1 fault tolerance tight upper bound [6,7]. However, the unreachable n/2 upper bound is based on a hidden condition that it's impossible for all the nodes to know whether they are faulty or not. Few papers focused on this issue. This paper asks two vital questions about it: can nodes know they are faulty or not and what will happen if they have such fault knowledge. Some new findings are made including: (1) This condition is true if only message passing is available; (2) With receive and send fault knowledge, the fault tolerance tight upper bound is n; (3) Still, with only receive fault knowledge, the fault tolerance tight upper bound is n-1; (4) Finally if only send fault knowledge is available, the fault tolerance upper bound is smaller than 2n/3.
