| 2026 | Multiscale Spatiotemporal Graph Convolutional Networks With Dynamic Delay Awareness for Traffic ForecastingabstractThe spatiotemporal dynamics of traffic forecasting make it a challenging task. In recent years, by adapting to the topology of traffic networks where road segments serve as nodes, graph convolutional networks (GCNs) have been able to capture spatiotemporal dependencies, thereby improving traffic forecasting performance. However, there are two shortcomings of GCN-based methods: 1) existing methods treat the delays between nodes in the traffic network as equally important and fail to extract critical information effectively, leading to information redundancy, the introduction of irrelevant noise, and increased computational costs and 2) most methods overlook the issue that spatiotemporal correlations between nodes are inconsistent across different timescales. This article designs a new dynamic delay-aware multiscal spatiotemporal graph convolutional network (DDAMGCN) for traffic forecasting. Specifically, a dynamic delay-aware module is designed to identify key nodes and model the important delays from key nodes, so that the model focuses on key information and reduces computational cost. Additionally, a novel multiscale spatiotemporal graph convolution module is designed to achieve fine-grained modeling of the spatiotemporal correlation of different nodes at different timescales. Experiments on eight real traffic datasets verify the superiority of the proposed method compared to several state-of-the-art baselines. Guodong Zhu, Xingyi Zhang 0001, Yunyun Niu, Songzhi Du |

| 2024 | Ant Colony Optimization With Look-Ahead Mechanism for Dynamic Traffic Signal Control of IoV SystemsabstractIn the era of Internet of Vehicle (IoV), traffic data are obtained by wireless sensor networks (WSNs), which provides convenience for real-time traffic signal control and is expected to further improve the efficiency of the whole system. Traffic signal controllers designed for IoV systems usually fully depend on data transmitted from the IoV system and are limited to the penetration rate of connected vehicles. This work proposes a dynamic ant colony optimization algorithm with the look-ahead mechanism (DALM) with eight no-conflict phases. The needed traffic information in the DALM algorithm is small and can be obtained independently by the system, which makes this method does not fully rely on the vehicle trajectories data and can better protect customer privacy and deal with cyber attack. With the look-ahead mechanism, the forthcoming traffic flow together with the current waiting queue are involved to predict the length of waiting vehicles and the optimal phase sequence is dynamically selected according to shortest green-light duration of candidate phase sequences obtained form the collected real-time traffic data. Experiments conducted under five scenarios with different kinds of traffic flow on SUMO platform show that compared with other four methods, both the total waiting time and the total carbon emissions of vehicles at the intersection are greatly reduced by using the DALM algorithm, especially in high traffic flow situations. The proposed algorithm can greatly improve the efficiency of the intersection in high traffic flow situation and is predictable to benefit the real-time traffic signal control in IoV system. | 2024 | Dynamic Graph Convolutional Recurrent Network With Spatiotemporal Category Information Embedding for Traffic Flow PredictionabstractTraffic flow prediction is a challenging spatiotemporal prediction task due to its spatiotemporal dynamics and uncertainty. In recent years, graph convolutional neural networks (GCNs) have been applied to traffic flow prediction due to their exceptional capabilities in processing network information. However, current GCN-based methods fail to capture long-range spatial dependencies between regions with similar functionalities, and the modeling of spatial dependencies within adjacent time steps is neglected. To solve these problems, this work proposes a new dynamic graph convolutional recurrent network (CDGCRN) with the spatiotemporal category information embedding. An embedding layer with spatiotemporal category information is introduced to enhance the model’s capability in capturing long-range spatial dependencies. This layer aids the model in rapidly identifying traffic patterns with distinct features. Morever, Dynamic spatial information fusion graph convolutional recurrent unit is proposed to capture spatial dependencies within all time steps and adjacent time steps. It incorporates a learnable graph structure with a time window for capturing spatial dependency relationships within adjacent time steps and a globally learnable graph structure for learning spatial dependency relationships across all time steps. Experimental results on the four real-world data sets demonstrate that CDGCRN is not only computationally efficient but also outperforms 17 state-of-the-art baseline methods. | 2024 | AMFENet: An Adaptive Multiscale Feature Fusion Enhancement Network for Sinkhole DetectionabstractSinkholes are natural depressions or cavities on the Earth’s surface, and accurate detection of sinkholes can prevent them from posing significant risks to human life, infrastructure, and the environment. Due to their varied and complex surface manifestations, sinkholes are relatively rare and pose challenges in precise detection when compared to other geological features. To achieve precise sinkhole detection, this paper introduces a network with multi-scale feature fusion and enhancement capabilities (AMFENet). AMFNet is the first to propose considering the irregular shapes, varying sizes, relatively small target areas, and uneven distribution characteristics of sinkholes. To capture the contextual global information of sinkholes, AMFENet utilizes the Swin Transformer as its encoder. To address the scarcity and uneven distribution of sinkholes, a Selective Amplification Block (SAB) is introduced, enhancing the significance of sinkhole features. To handle complex and diverse sinkhole features, the Semantic Integration Block (SIB) is introduced. It integrates both global and local semantic information and adaptively enhances crucial semantic features from both spatial and channel dimensions. According to extensive experiments conducted on the sinkhole DEM dataset in Kentucky, AMFNet outperforms other semantic segmentation methods. Guodong Zhu, Yunyun Niu, Long Ruan, Xiaohao Zhang |

| 2024 | Multi-Type Attention for Solving Multi-Depot Vehicle Routing ProblemsabstractIn recent years, there has been a growing trend towards using deep reinforcement learning (DRL) to solve the NP-hard vehicle routing problems (VRPs). While much success has been achieved, most of the previous studies solely focused on single-depot VRPs, which became less effective in handling more practical scenarios, such as multi-depot VRPs. Although there are many preprocessing measures, such as natural decomposition, those scenarios are still more challenging to optimize. To resolve this issue, we propose the multi-depot multi-type attention (MD-MTA) to solve the multi-depot VRP (MDVRP) and multi-depot open VRP (MDOVRP), respectively. We design a multi-type attention in the network to combine different types of embeddings and the state of the environment at each step, so as to accurately select the next node to visit and construct the route. We introduce a depot rotation augmentation to enhance solution decoding. Results show that it performs favorably against various representative traditional baselines and DRL-based baselines. | 2021 | A Community Structure Enhancement-Based Community Detection Algorithm for Complex NetworksabstractCommunity detection has been recognized as one of the most important tools to discover useful information hidden in complex networks which is usually hard to be obtained by simple observations. Existing community detection algorithms have demonstrated their effectiveness on a variety of complex networks, most of them, however, suffer from the scalability issue on complex networks without a clear community structure due to the challenge in the detection of ambiguous community structure. To address this issue, in this paper, we propose a community structure enhancement method, termed CSE, for community detection in complex networks. In the proposed CSE, the community structure of a network is enhanced by adding links between the nodes possibly belonging to the same community and reducing links between those belonging to different communities, thereby converting an ambiguous community structure into a structure much clearer than the original one. The experimental results show the superior performance of the proposed CSE over five state-of-the-art community detection algorithms on both synthetic benchmark networks and real-world networks, especially for those without a clear community structure. | 2017 | A Mixed Representation-Based Multiobjective Evolutionary Algorithm for Overlapping Community DetectionabstractDesigning multiobjective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs) for community detection in complex networks has attracted much attention of researchers recently. However, most of the existing methods focus on addressing the task of nonoverlapping community detection, where each node must belong to one and only one community. In fact, communities are often overlapped with each other in many real-world networks, thus it is necessary to design overlapping community detection algorithms. To this end, this paper proposes a mixed representation-based MOEA (MR-MOEA) for overlapping community detection. In MR-MOEA, a mixed individual representation scheme is proposed to fast encode and decode the overlapping divisions of complex networks. Specifically, this mixed representation consists of two parts: one represents all potential overlapping nodes and the other delegates all nonoverlapping nodes. These two parts evolve together to detect the overlapping communities of networks based on different updating strategies suggested in MR-MOEA. We verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm MR-MOEA on ten real-world complex networks and the experimental results demonstrate that MR-MOEA is superior over six representative algorithms for overlapping community detection. | 2011 | A Tissue P Systems Based Uniform Solution to Tripartite Matching ProblemabstractA tissue P system with cell division is a computing model which has two basic features: intercellular communication and the ability of cell division. The ability of cell division allows us to obtain an exponential amount of cells in linear time and to design cellular solutions to computationally hard problems in polynomial time. In this work we present an efficient solution to the tripartite matching problem by a family of such devices. This solution leads to an interesting open problem whether tissue P systems with cell division and communication rules of length 2 can solve NP-complete problems. An answer to this open problem will provide a borderline between efficiency and non-efficiency in terms of the lengths of communication rules. Yunyun Niu, Linqiang Pan, Mario J.
