2013 An android application for leaf-based plant identification
abstract
This paper presents an Android application for plant identification. The system relies on the observation of leaf images. Unlike other mobile plant identification applications, the user may choose the leaf characters that will guide the identification process. For this purpose, two kinds of descriptors are proposed to the user: a shape descriptor based on a multiscale triangular representation of the leaf margin and a descriptor of the salient points of the leaf. The application achieves good identification accuracy and provides Android users a useful system for plant identification.

2012 One size does not fit all: multimodal search on mobile and desktop devices with the I-SEARCH search engine
abstract
In this paper, we report on work around the I-SEARCH EU (FP7 ICT STREP) project whose objective is the development of a multimodal search engine targeted at mobile and desktop devices. Each of these device classes has its specific hardware capabilities and set of supported features. In order to provide a common multimodal search experience across device classes, one size does not fit all. We highlight ways to achieve the same functionality agnostic of the device class being used for the search, and present concrete use cases.

2011 Visual-based plant species identification from crowdsourced data
abstract
This demo presents a crowdsourcing web application dedicated to the access of botanical knowledge through automated identification of plant species by visual content. Inspired by citizen sciences, our aim is to speed up the collection and integration of raw botanical observation data, while providing to potential users an easy and efficient access to this botanical knowledge. The result presented during the demo is an enjoying application where anyone can play to shoot fresh cut leaves and observe the relevance of species suggested in spite of various visual difficult queries.

2000 Film line scratch removal using Kalman filtering and Bayesian restoration
abstract
A suitable detection/reconstruction approach is proposed for removing line scratches from degraded motion picture films. The detection procedure consists of two steps. First, a simple 1D-extrema detector provides line scratch candidates. Line artifacts persist across several frames. Therefore, to reject false detections, the detected scratches are tracked over the sequence using a Kalman filter. A new Bayesian restoration technique, dealing with both low and high frequencies around and inside the detected artifacts, is investigated to achieve a near invisible restoration of damaged areas.

1999 Detection and Removal of Line Scratches in Motion Picture Films
abstract
Line scratches are common degradations in motion picture films. This paper presents an efficient method for line scratches detection strengthened by a Kalman filter. A new interpolation technique, dealing with both low and high frequencies (i.e. film grain) around the line artifacts, is investigated to achieve a nearby invisible reconstruction of damaged areas. Our line scratches detection and removal techniques have been validated on several film sequences.
