Text-Guided Knowledge Transfer for Remote Sensing Image-Text RetrievalabstractRemote sensing text-image retrieval aims to retrieve valuable information from diverse and complex remote sensing data, attracting significant attention. However, the performance is limited due to the complexity of scenes and their substantial content differences from natural domain images. To address these issues, we propose a simple but effective Text-guided Knowledge Transfer (TGKT) method for remote sensing image-text retrieval. TGKT utilizes CLIP to encode remote sensing data and transfer its rich semantic knowledge from natural to remote sensing domain. The textual information without significant domain differences is employed to bridge the semantic gap between these two domains, thereby enhancing image features. The extensive experimental results on both RSICD and RSITMD datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. | 2022 | Self-Supervised Auxiliary Domain Alignment for Unsupervised 2D Image-Based 3D Shape RetrievalabstractUnsupervised 2D image-based 3D shape retrieval aims to match the similar 3D unlabeled shapes when given a 2D labeled sample. Although a lot of methods have made a certain degree of progress, the performance of this task is still restricted due to the lack of target labels resulting in tremendous domain gap. In this paper, we aim to explore the discriminative representation of the unlabeled target 3D shapes and facilitate the procedure of domain adaptation by taking full advantage of multi-view information. To achieve the above goals, we propose an effective self-supervised auxiliary domain alignment (SADA) for unsupervised 2D image-based 3D shape retrieval. SADA mainly contains multi-view guided self-supervised feature learning and two auxiliary domain alignments, including intermediate domain alignment and multi-domain alignment. Firstly, we group multiple views of each 3D shape into two sub-target domains based on the view similarities and regard each other as the constraint to optimize the feature learning in an unsupervised manner. To reduce the difficulty of directly aligning the domain discrepancy, we combine the source labeled samples and target samples (pseudo labels) with the same category to generate an intermediate domain, which translates the source-target alignment into source-intermediate and intermediate-target alignments. Moreover, to explore the inner characteristics of target 3D shapes and provide more clues for better adaptation, multi-domain alignment is proposed to convert the source and single target domain alignment to the source and multiple target domain (one target domain and two sub-target domains) alignments. The adversarial training and semantic alignment are employed to fully excavate the relations between source domain and multiple target domains. Experiments on two challenging datasets show that the proposed method achieves competing performance in the unsupervised 2D image-based 3D shape retrieval task. | 2020 | Inter-Patient ECG Classification With Symbolic Representations and Multi-Perspective Convolutional Neural NetworksabstractThis paper presents a novel deep learning framework for the inter-patient electrocardiogram (ECG) heartbeat classification. A symbolization approach especially designed for ECG is introduced, which can jointly represent the morphology and rhythm of the heartbeat and alleviate the influence of inter-patient variation through baseline correction. The symbolic representation of the heartbeat is used by a multi-perspective convolutional neural network (MPCNN) to learn features automatically and classify the heartbeat. We evaluate our method for the detection of the supraventricular ectopic beat (SVEB) and ventricular ectopic beat (VEB) on MIT-BIH arrhythmia dataset. Compared with the state-of-the-art methods based on manual features or deep learning models, our method shows superior performance: the overall accuracy of 96.4%, F1 scores for SVEB and VEB of 76.6% and 89.7%, respectively. The ablation study on our method validates the effectiveness of the proposed symbolization approach and joint representation architecture, which can help the deep learning model to learn more general features and improve the ability of generalization for unseen patients. Because our method achieves a competitive inter-patient heartbeat classification performance without complex handcrafted features or the intervention of the human expert, it can also be adjusted to handle various other tasks relative to ECG classification. | 2018 | Enhancing Knowledge Graph Completion with Positive Unlabeled LearningabstractKnowledge graphs have proven to be incredibly useful for many artificial intelligence applications. Although typical knowledge graphs may contain a huge amount of facts, they are far from being complete, which motivates an increasing research interest in learning statistical models for knowledge graph completion. Learning such models relies on sampling appropriate number of negative examples, as only the positive examples are contained in the data set. However, this would introduce errors or heuristic biases which restrict the sampler to visit other potentially reliable negative examples for better prediction models. In this paper, we present a novel perspective on skillfully selecting the negative examples for knowledge graph completion. We develop a two-stage logistic regression filter under the positive-unlabeled learning (PU learning) framework, which enables an automatic and iterative refinement of the negative candidate pools. We then contrast positive examples with the resulting negative ones based on the improved embedding-based models. In particular, we work with a cost-sensitive loss function by weighting the semantic differences between negative examples and particular positive ones. This weighting scheme reflects the importance of predicting the preferences between them correctly. In experiments, we validate the effectiveness of negative examples in refining and weighting schemes, respectively. Besides this, our proposed prediction model also outperforms the state-of-the-art methods on two public datasets. Jinghao Niu, Zhengya Sun, Wensheng Zhang 0002

Structural feature-based event clustering for short text streamsabstractThis paper is concerned with event clustering for short text streams, which aims to divide constantly arriving short texts into several dynamic event-based clusters. A widely adopted approach is based on the Vector Space Models (VSMs) such as bag of words. However, these models have limitations in that not only the semantic relationships between words are largely ignored, the term weighting may also not well adapt the change of data stream. To avoid these limitations, in this paper, we propose a new model which captures the compositional structure of textual relations, and jointly utilize the event content similarity, temporal and location proximity to evaluate the distance between texts. We then leverage the benefits of ClusTree, a parameter-free stream clustering algorithm, to discover micro-clusters and maintain stream summaries. The experimental results on several real world data sets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method over the state-of-the-arts. Zhengya Sun, Jiuqi Han, Hongwei Hao

Large-scale Knowledge Base Completion: Inferring via Grounding Network Sampling over Selected InstancesabstractConstructing large-scale knowledge bases has attracted much attention in recent years, for which Knowledge Base Completion (KBC) is a key technique. In general, inferring new facts in a large-scale knowledge base is not a trivial task. The large number of inferred candidate facts has resulted in the failure of the majority of previous approaches. Inference approaches can achieve high precision for formulas that are accurate, but they are required to infer candidate instances one by one, and extremely large candidate sets bog them down in expensive calculations. In contrast, the existing embedding-based methods can easily calculate similarity-based scores for each candidate instance as opposed to using inference, so they can handle large-scale data. However, this type of method does not consider explicit logical semantics and usually has unsatisfactory precision. To resolve the limitations of the above two types of methods, we propose an approach through Inferring via Grounding Network Sampling over Selected Instances. We first employ an embedding-based model to make the instance selection and generate much smaller candidate sets for subsequent fact inference, which not only narrows the candidate sets but also filters out part of the noise instances. Then, we only make inferences within these candidate sets by running a data-driven inference algorithm on the Markov Logic Network (MLN), which is called Inferring via Grounding Network Sampling (INS). In this process, we especially incorporate the similarity priori generated by embedding-based models into INS to promote the inference precision. The experimental results show that our approach improved [email protected] from 32.911% to 71.692% on the FB15K dataset and achieved much better [email protected] evaluations than state-of-the-art methods. | 2015 | Meta-Path based Nonnegative Matrix Factorization for clustering on multi-type relational dataabstractClustering on multi-type relational data has attracted increasing interest due to its great practical and theoretical importance. One of the most popular solutions is nonnegative matrix factorization. However, previous work on nonnegative matrix factorization typically copes with multi-type relations individually, and ignores the underlying semantics conveyed by the relation propagation. Additionally, these approaches may suffer from data sparsity as most of the relations between object pairs are unknown. In this paper we propose a novel Meta-Path based Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (MPNMF) framework, which enriches potentially useful similarity semantics for the improved clustering performance. We begin with constructing meta-paths, i.e., paths that connects object types via a sequence of relations, which are appropriately weighted according to certain propagation decay rules. Based on the weighted meta-paths, we are promised to characterize the strength of pairwise interactions among the objects. Together with the attributes in the bag-of-word form, we cluster the objects of target type by collective nonnegative matrix factorization. Experiments on real world datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. Zhengya Sun, Changsheng Xu, Hongwei Hao

Developing Learning Algorithms via Optimized Discretization of Continuous Dynamical SystemsabstractMost of the existing numerical optimization methods are based upon a discretization of some ordinary differential equations. In order to solve some convex and smooth optimization problems coming from machine learning, in this paper, we develop efficient batch and online algorithms based on a new principle, i.e., the optimized discretization of continuous dynamical systems (ODCDSs). First, a batch learning projected gradient dynamical system with Lyapunov's stability and monotonic property is introduced, and its dynamical behavior guarantees the accuracy of discretization-based optimizer and applicability of line search strategy. Furthermore, under fair assumptions, a new online learning algorithm achieving regret O(√T) or O(logT) is obtained. By using the line search strategy, the proposed batch learning ODCDS exhibits insensitivity to the step sizes and faster decrease. With only a small number of line search steps, the proposed stochastic algorithm shows sufficient stability and approximate optimality. Experimental results demonstrate the correctness of our theoretical analysis and efficiency of our algorithms. Zhengya Sun, Kang Kong

Robust sparse rank learning for non-smooth ranking measuresabstractRecently increasing attention has been focused on directly optimizing ranking measures and inducing sparsity in learning models. However, few attempts have been made to relate them together in approaching the problem of learning to rank. In this paper, we consider the sparse algorithms to directly optimize the Normalized Discounted Cumulative Gain (NDCG) which is a widely-used ranking measure. We begin by establishing a reduction framework under which we reduce ranking, as measured by NDCG, to the importance weighted pairwise classification. Furthermore, we provide a sound theoretical guarantee for this reduction, bounding the realized NDCG regret in terms of a properly weighted pairwise classification regret, which implies that good performance can be robustly transferred from pairwise classification to ranking. Based on the converted pairwise loss function, it is conceivable to take into account sparsity in ranking models and to come up with a gradient possessing certain performance guarantee. For the sake of achieving sparsity, a novel algorithm named RSRank has also been devised, which performs L1 regularization using truncated gradient descent. Finally, experimental results on benchmark collection confirm the significant advantage of RSRank in comparison with several baseline methods. Zhengya Sun, Jue Wang 0004
