1988 Synthesis of high-resolution narrow-band Fourier spectra from low-resolution transforms
abstract
The practical limit to fast Fourier transform (FFT) size imposed by available computer memory limits the achievable spectral resolution. However, it is pointed out, the coefficients of a large transform can be directly synthesized from the coefficients of successive smaller transforms over the same frequency range.>

1983 Formulas which approximate the distribution of a sinusoid plus noise
abstract
The exact probability density function and cumulative distribution function of a sinusoid plus noise cannot in general be expressed in closed form. In this correspondence an approximation formula is derived that is applicable to any noise distribution since it is expressed solely in terms of the noise distribution itself. Its accuracy is checked against the Gaussian and Cauchy noise models.

1981 Comments on 'Anomalous behavior of receiver output SNR as a predictor of signal detection performance exemplified for quadratic receivers and incoherent fading Gaussian channels' by W. A. Gardner
abstract
The generalized measure of receiver output signal-to-noise ratio proposed in the subject correspondence includes several conventional measures as special cases. One useful, if unconventional, measure not included is reviewed.

1979 Moments of the truncated noncentral chi-squared distribution (Corresp.)
abstract
The truncated form of the noncentral chi-squared distribution arises in connection with dynamic range-limited spectra. A method of evaluating the moments of this distribution is presented.
