2000 A Web-Based System for Assessing and Searching for Designs
abstract
Users need to access design data for a variety of reasons. Designers may be interested in accessing repositories of IP blocks for possible inclusion in their own designs. Alternatively, EDA tool developers and purchasers need a representative set of designs to evaluate or benchmark software. This poster presents a web-based system used both for profiling designs and for searching for designs with specific characteristics. The STEED system summarised here is based on external information models that tailor it to user requirements.

2000 The Birth of the Baby
abstract
On June 21/sup st/ 1948, in a redbrick building near the centre of Manchester, England, a digital computer ran its first program successfully. The day was auspicious, because that was the very first time anywhere in the world that a stored program computer worked successfully. This short note summarises the background to that momentous development and explains a little about the machine called the "The Baby".

1995 A Multiparadigm Programming Approach for Developing Knowledge-Based Systems
abstract
Knowledge-based systems are large and complex software systems which are difficult to understand and design. A multiparadigm programming approach, based on an integration of the object-oriented programming paradigm and the logic programming paradigm, is reported for the development of these systems. Such an approach promotes both the analysis and synthesis processes which are essential in understanding and designing large knowledge-based systems. Moreover, this approach emphasizes an equal and co-operating partnership between each programming paradigm for problem analysis and solving. A multiparadigm programming language, EXL, is developed for this purpose. EXL integrates the object-oriented programming paradigm and the logic programming paradigm by 'stitching' them together with the notion of logical object. In this way, EXL provides structural level modularization and relational level modularization in building knowledge-based systems.

1995 Information Models of VHDL
abstract
Abstract – The paper discusses issues related to the applica-tion of information modelling to the field of Electronic CAD, using VHDL as the basis for discussion. It is shown that an information model of VHDL provides a coherent and uniform description of the VHDL objects at different levels of the lan-guage and of the transformations that interrelate these levels. In addition, it captures the time-dependent aspects of the lan-guage. Hence, a hierarchy of VHDL information models can ex-ist which encompasses the range from abstraction to detail and can help support CAD applications in a direct manner. I.

1989 Representation and Use of Design Rules within a Technology Adaptable CAD System
abstract
This paper describes the representation and use of technology related information in a CAD system designed to support technology adaptable applications. This information is described as design rules using a special-purpose language, DRDL, and is stored in a Design Rule Data Base. The main features of DRDL are noted and the mechanisms that can be implemented in application programs which use design rule information are discussed

1986 A design rule database system to support technology-adaptable applications
abstract
This paper describes aspects of a CAD system which has been specifically designed to support technology-adaptable applications and to incorporate expert system processes where appropriate. The approach advocated in the paper is to use design rules stored in a database to supply technology related information to CAD tools.

1978 A Design Language for Asynchronous Logic
abstract
This paper discusses the restrictions and problems of conventional design systems for digital hardware. From this is derived a set of requirements for an improved design system. Using these requirements, a discussion of existing design systems and the known requirements of designers of large systems, a set of criteria for a design system for large, fast, parallel, asynchronous hardware is produced. Most of the paper involves a description of the ADL design language, which is then viewed in terms of the original criteria. An example of the use of the ADL is included as an appendix.
