1984 Architecture for VLSI Design of Reed-Solomon Decoders
abstract
In this paper, the known decoding procedures for Reed-Solomon (RS) codes are modified to obtain a repetitive and recursive decoding technique which is suitable for VLSI implementation and pipelining. The chip architectures of two basic building blocks for VLSI RS decoder systems are then presented. It is shown that a VLSI RS decoder has the potential advantage of achieving a high decoding speed through parallel-pipeline processing.

1983 A Parallel-Pipeline Architecutre of the Fast Polynomial Transform for Computing a Two-Dimensional Cyclic Convolution
abstract
In this paper, a parallel-pipeline, radix-2 architecture is proposed to implement the fast polynomial transform (FPT). It is shown that such a structure can be used to efficiently compute a two-dimensional convolution of d1× d2complex number points, where d1 = 2m-r+1and d2= 2mfor 1 ≤ r ≤ m.

1982 Architecture for VLSI Design of Reed-Solomon Encoders
abstract
In this correspondence the logic structure of a universal VLSI chip called the symbol-slice Reed-Solomon (RS) encoder chip is presented. An RS encoder can be constructed by cascading and properly interconnecting a group of such VLSI chips. As a design example, it is shown that a (255, 223) RS encoder requiring around 40 discrete CMOS IC's may be replaced by an RS encoder consisting of four identical interconnected VLSI RS encoder chips. Besides the size advantage, the VLSI RS encoder also has the potential advantages of requiring less power and having a higher reliability.

1977 High-radix transforms for Reed-Solomon codes over Fermat primes (Corresp.)
abstract
It is shown that a high-radix fast Fourier transform (FFT) with generator\gamma = 3over GF(F_{n}), whereF_{n} = 2^{2}^{n'} + 1is a Fermat prime, can be used for encoding and decoding of Reed-Solomon (RS) codes of length2^{2}^{n}. Such an RS decoder is considerably faster than a decoder using the usual radix 2 FFT. This technique applies most ideally to a 16-error-correcting, 256-symbol RS code of 8 bits being considered currently for space communication applications. This special code can be encoded and decoded rapidly using a high-radix FFT algorithm over GF(F_{3}).
