| 2011 | Electric Field-Shaping Microdevices for Manipulation of Collections of Microscale ObjectsabstractThis paper presents an approach for manipulating tissue samples through dielectrophoresis (DEP), complemented by a programmable distributive process. In this approach, multiple electrical forces are applied particles in a nonuniform field that sorts them according to size and electrical properties. This facilitates greater motility of muscle cells and promotes the consequent growth of muscle fiber. In addition, a distributed DEP process has the ability to transfer thin, flexible, and delicate objects more easily and to orient them with heightened precision. Richard O'Donnell |

| 2009 | Prolog to Analog Circuit Design in Nanoscale CMOS TechnologiesabstractSuccess in the emerging era of nanoscale analog CMOS devices will depend on recognizing early in the design phase the many physical layout factors that ultimately determine circuit performance. This paper examines several physical design strategies that could lessen the impact of collateral forces that might not otherwise become apparent until the post-layout phase is reached. | 2009 | Prolog to Achieving Competence-Based Curricula for Engineering Education in SpainabstractCompetence will become the defining measure for redesigning future curricula in Spain, as it is becoming elsewhere in Europe. However, to achieve success, these competences will have to be valid, reliable, and fully transportable among Europe's institutions of higher education, a goal that has proved elusive to date.
