| 2026 | Compositional Attribute Imbalance in Vision DatasetsabstractVisual attribute imbalance is a common yet underexplored issue in image classification, significantly impacting model performance and generalization. In this work, we first define the first-level and second-level attributes of images and then introduce a CLIP-based framework to construct a visual attribute dictionary, enabling automatic evaluation of image attributes. By systematically analyzing both single-attribute imbalance and compositional attribute imbalance, we reveal how the rarity of attributes affects model performance. To tackle these challenges, we propose adjusting the sampling probability of samples based on the rarity of their compositional attributes. This strategy is further integrated with various data augmentation techniques (such as CutMix, Fmix, and SaliencyMix) to enhance the model's ability to represent rare attributes. Extensive experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate that our method effectively mitigates attribute imbalance, thereby improving the robustness and fairness of deep neural networks. Our research highlights the importance of modeling visual attribute distributions and provides a scalable solution for long-tail image classification tasks. | 2026 | GraphSynth: Resolving the Diversity-Reliability Trade-off with Probabilistic Factor GraphsabstractThe large language models offer a scaleable solution for the generation of synthetic data faced with a trade-off between maintaining the diversity of generation and achieving factually accurate results. This paper introduces Graphsynth, a framework which leverages a probabilistic factor graph modeling the universe of attributes. The framework leverages a high-level schema mapping compiled into efficient hard masks during the decoding phase for maintaining the syntactic truth and a span-synchronized verifier for dismissing logical contradictions at the decode time. The experiments conducted on biomedical, legal, and generic domains show that the method outperforms the state-of-the-art baselines with a structural integrity approaching perfection, a coverage of around 94% attributes on the factor graph solution, and a boost in performance on downstream tasks such as +17.9% on TruthfulQA. | 2026 | Identity-Decoupled Anonymization for Visual Evidence in Multi-modal Retrieval-Augmented GenerationabstractMulti-modal retrieval-augmented generation (MRAG) systems retrieve visual evidence from large image corpora to ground the responses of large multi-modal models, yet the retrieved images frequently contain human faces whose identities constitute sensitive personal information. Existing anonymization techniques that destroy the non-identity visual cues that downstream reasoning depends on or fail to provide principled privacy guarantees. We propose Identity-Decoupled MRAG, a framework that interposes a generative anonymization module between retrieval and generation. Our approach consists of three components: (i) a disentangled variational encoder that factorizes each face into an identity code and a spatially-structured attribute code, regularized by a mutual-information penalty and a gradient-based independence term; (ii) a manifold-aware rejection sampler that replaces the identity code with a synthetic one guaranteed to be both distinct from the original and realistic; and (iii) a conditional latent diffusion generator that synthesizes the anonymized face from the replacement identity and the preserved attributes, distilled into a latent consistency model for low-latency deployment. Privacy is enforced through a multi-oracle ensemble of face recognition models with a hinge-based loss that halts optimization once identity similarity drops below the impostor-regime threshold. The resulting framework enables privacy-preserving visual reasoning in MRAG pipelines with a tunable privacy-utility trade-off calibrated to deployment context. Zehua Cheng, Wei Dai 0015 |

| 2026 | Calibrating Biased Distribution in VFM-Derived Latent Space via Cross-Domain Geometric ConsistencyabstractDespite the fast progress of deep learning, one standing challenge is the gap of the observed training samples and the underlying true distribution. There are multiple reasons for the causing of this gap e.g. sampling bias, noise etc. In the era of foundation models, we show that when leveraging the off-the-shelf (vision) foundation models (e.g., CLIP, DINOv2) for feature extraction, the geometric shapes of the resulting feature distributions exhibit remarkable transferability across domains and datasets. To verify its practical usefulness, we embody our geometric knowledge-guided distribution calibration framework in two popular and challenging settings: federated learning and long-tailed recognition. In the federated setting, we devise a technique of acquiring the global geometric shape under privacy constraints, then leverage this knowledge to generate new samples for clients, in the aim of bridging the gap between local and global observations. In long-tailed learning, it utilizes the geometric knowledge transferred from sample-rich categories to recover the true distribution for sample-scarce tail classes. Comprehensive experiments show that our proposed geometric knowledge-guided distribution calibration effectively overcomes information deficits caused by data heterogeneity and sample imbalance, with boosted performance across benchmarks. | 2025 | On Weaponization-Resistant Large Language Models with Prospect Theoretic AlignmentabstractLarge language models (LLMs) have made significant advancements, but their increasing capabilities present serious risks of misuse, particularly in open-weight models where direct access to the model’s parameters is possible. Current safeguards, designed for closed-weight API models, are inadequate for open-weight models, as minimal fine-tuning can bypass these protections. Preserving the integrity of open-weight LLMs before deployment has thus become a critical challenge. We argue that these vulnerabilities stem from the overemphasis on maximizing the LLM’s log-likelihood during training, which amplifies data biases, especially with large datasets. To address these issues, we introduce Kahneman and Tversky’s Prospect Theoretic Integrity Preserving Alignment (KT-IPA), a framework that prioritizes maximizing generative utility rather than a singular optimization metric. This approach strengthens LLMs against misuse and weaponization while maintaining high performance, even after extensive fine-tuning. Our results demonstrate that integrating prospect theory into LLM training enhances robustness, security, and responsible innovation in this rapidly evolving field. | 2025 | Geometric Knowledge-Guided Localized Global Distribution Alignment for Federated LearningabstractData heterogeneity in federated learning, characterized by a significant misalignment between local and global distributions, leads to divergent local optimization directions and hinders global model training. Existing studies mainly focus on optimizing local updates or global aggregation, but these indirect approaches demonstrate instability when handling highly heterogeneous data distributions, especially in scenarios where label skew and domain skew coexist. To address this, we propose a geometry-guided data generation method that centers on simulating the global embedding distribution locally. We first introduce the concept of the geometric shape of an embedding distribution and then address the challenge of obtaining global geometric shapes under privacy constraints. Subsequently, we propose GGEUR, which leverages global geometric shapes to guide the generation of new samples, enabling a closer approximation to the ideal global distribution. In single-domain scenarios, we augment samples based on global geometric shapes to enhance model generalization; in multi-domain scenarios, we further employ class prototypes to simulate the global distribution across domains. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our method significantly enhances the performance of existing approaches in handling highly heterogeneous data, including scenarios with label skew, domain skew, and their coexistence. | 2025 | Pursuing Better Decision Boundaries for Long-Tailed Object Detection via Category Information AmountabstractIn object detection, the number of instances is commonly used to determine whether a dataset follows a long-tailed distribution, implicitly assuming that the model will perform poorly on categories with fewer instances. This assumption has led to extensive research on category bias in datasets with imbalanced instance distributions. However, even in datasets with relatively balanced instance counts, models still exhibit bias toward certain categories, indicating that instance count alone cannot explain this phenomenon. In this work, we first introduce the concept and measurement of category informativeness. We observe a significant negative correlation between a category’s informativeness and its accuracy, suggesting that informativeness more accurately reflects the learning difficulty of a category. Based on this observation, we propose the Informativeness-Guided Angular Margin Loss (IGAM Loss), which dynamically adjusts the decision space of categories according to their informativeness, thereby mitigating category bias in long-tailed datasets. IGAM Loss not only achieves superior performance on long-tailed benchmark datasets such as LVIS v1.0 and COCO-LT but also demonstrates significant improvements for underrepresented categories in non-long-tailed datasets like Pascal VOC. Extensive experiments confirm the potential of category informativeness as a tool and the generalizability of our proposed method. Yanbiao Ma, Wei Dai 0015 |

| 2023 | Improvements on SadTalker-based Approach for ViCo Conversational Head Generation ChallengeabstractThis paper presents our solution in the ACM Multimedia ViCo 2023 Conversational Head Generation Challenge, which aims to generate vivid face-to-face conversation videos based on audio and reference images. Our approach builds upon the SadTalker framework with several improvements. Since SadTalker is already a mature and well-developed framework, consisting of multiple stages of algorithms and models, our enhancements mainly focus on the preprocessing and postprocessing stages. With our improved method, we achieved second place in both the Talking Head Generation track and the Listening Head Generation track. Wei Dai 0015 |
