| 2025 | Exploring the Structural Relationships of Microinteractions in Perception and Behavior by the Hedonic Motivation System Adoption ModelabstractThis study revisited the Hedonic Motivation System Adoption Model (HMSAM) through the literature on microinteractions, accomplished the model structure expansion and intrinsic composition of microinteraction regarding relationship and logic combining, and collected 140 valid data points through questionnaire surveys. The results showed that using microinteractions is largely adapted to the hedonic motivation system adoption model. Perceived ease of use is the basis for the use of microinteractions, which affects the perception of hedonic and perceptual experience. The hedonic state encompasses multiple emotional categories, with pleasure and control as important mediators affecting the behavioral intention to use, immersion, and perceived usefulness to varying degrees. The findings emphasize the impact of perceptual experience on using microinteractions, extending the theoretical structure and clarifying that “familiarity” of experience should be considered in interface design. These findings provide a basis for the theoretical construction of interface microinteractions and directions for future design practices. Jiayang Ma, Jia Feng Xie, Chun-Ching Chen |

| 2025 | Book Topic and Emotion Classification by Child Readers in a Library in TaiwanabstractThis study created a visualized folksonomy classification that integrates topic icons and emojis to help children to find books that they like in library settings. The National Library of Public Information in Taiwan commissioned a book-navigation app using the proposed classification. We recruited 35 children to use this app to search for books to read, and they recorded their feelings about these books over a twelve-week period. A statistical analysis of 1,938 system logs was performed under three themes: thematic preferences, epistemic cognition, and social communication. The implementation of thematic and emotion icons in a folksonomy topic structure appeared to successfully aid young Taiwanese readers in finding books that they wanted. Evidence of complex relationships among cultural, psychological, cognitive, and social aspects of book-finding was found, suggesting the benefits of supervised learning in the extraction of gross-fine emotions in the sentiment analysis of multiple topics. | 2024 | Design and Evaluation for Improving Lantern Culture Learning Experience with Augmented RealityabstractMany forms of Intangible Culture Heritage (ICH) are fast disappearing. The Lantern Festival is an important part of Chinese tradition and a critical ICH of Taiwan. However, few young people attend ICH activities. Given the importance of ICH education, this study describes what participants learned after lantern exhibitions that combined Augmented Reality (AR), mobile websites, and Paper-based Exhibition Brochures. This study evaluated what a cohort of college students (n = 115) learned about ICH through experiments and questionnaires. The results show that the public understood ICH better through digital technology. All participants thought that applying AR to ICH was good for the public to gain more information on lantern culture, although it took a lot of time to learn the new technology. The results also encouraged the application of AR to engage in ICH education. Therefore, a large number of digital technologies that are popular among young people should be used as part of ICH education in order to improve their cultural awareness and learning motivation. | 2023 | Role of Perceived Ease of Use for Augmented Reality App Designed to Help Children Navigate Smart LibrariesabstractIn this article, we sought to determine whether perceived enjoyment (PE), perceived ease of use (PEOU), and perceived usefulness (PU) impacted children’s attitude toward using an augmented reality mobile application (app) to search for books in a smart library. We used an experiment and a questionnaire survey to measure the perceptions of 238 children of the proposed app. Structural equation modeling was applied in conjunction with the technology acceptance model and flow theory to analyze the collected data. Participants tended to take less notice of their spatial context while using the app and rather focused on their experience of the route. Children’s attitudes toward the app were most influenced by PEOU, followed by PE, and PU. This article provides evidence that children with limited cognition abilities using ego-centered navigation to find selected targets tend to emphasize PEOU and thus prioritize processing temporal concepts over emotional and spatial concepts. | 2004 | The Development of a Direct Metallic Rapid Prototyping SystemabstractRapid tooling (RT) refers to the rapid creation of molds in much the same way as rapid prototyping, which means the rapid creation of models. Rapid prototyping is a method that offers both designers and manufacturers some advantages such as time compression and cost reduction. Rapid tooling has become more important because of the requirement of rapid manufacturing. Rapid tooling can be used to produce temporary mold, even permanent mold in mass production. Rapid tooling makes more benefit from design stage to mass production. The objective of This work is to develop a metallic rapid prototyping system and form a complete set of important parameters of laser cladding. The software technique includes slicing algorithm with bucket sorting and tool path generation algorithm. The hardware architecture includes 500 W Nd-YAG laser, metallic powder feeder, coaxial nozzle, shielding gas (Ar) supply system, CNC milling system and linear planar motor based working table. The system controller is a PC-based control system, which includes 3-axis AC servo motor driver and I/O control card. The system control software is written by Visual Basic language. The prototype system has been constructed and demonstrated. Ren C. Luo, Chun-Ching Chen, Jyh Hwa Tzou |
