| 2026 | CVP: Central-Peripheral Vision-Inspired Multimodal Model for Spatial ReasoningabstractWe present a central-peripheral vision-inspired framework (CVP), a simple yet effective multimodal model for spatial reasoning that draws inspiration from the two types of human visual fields – central vision and peripheral vision. Existing approaches primarily rely on unstructured representations, such as point clouds, voxels, or patch features, and inject scene context implicitly via coordinate embeddings. However, this often results in limited spatial reasoning capabilities due to the lack of explicit, high-level structural understanding. To address this limitation, we introduce two complementary components into a Large Multimodal Model-based architecture: target-affinity token, analogous to central vision, that guides the model’s attention toward query-relevant objects; and allocentric grid, akin to peripheral vision, that captures global scene context and spatial arrangements. These components work in tandem to enable structured, context-aware understanding of complex 3D environments. Experiments show that CVP achieves state-of-the-art performance across a range of 3D scene understanding benchmarks. Xiang Zhang 0015, Haiyang Xu 0002, Jianwen Xie, Zhuowen Tu |

| 2025 | Science-T2I: Addressing Scientific Illusions in Image SynthesisabstractWe present a novel approach to integrating scientific knowledge into generative models, enhancing their realism and consistency in image synthesis. First, we introduce Science-T2I, an expert-annotated adversarial dataset comprising adversarial 20k image pairs with 9k prompts, covering wide distinct scientific knowledge categories. Leveraging Science-T2I, we present SciScore, an end-to-end reward model that refines the assessment of generated images based on scientific knowledge, which is achieved by augmenting both the scientific comprehension and visual capabilities of pre-trained CLIP model. Additionally, based on Science-T2I, we propose a two-stage training framework, comprising a supervised fine-tuning phase and a masked online fine-tuning phase, to incorporate scientific knowledge into existing generative models. Through comprehensive experiments, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our framework in establishing new standards for evaluating the scientific realism of generated content. Specifically, SciScore attains performance comparable to human-level, demonstrating a 5% improvement similar to evaluations conducted by experienced human evaluators. Furthermore, by applying our proposed fine-tuning method to FLUX, we achieve a performance enhancement exceeding 50% on SciScore. Jialuo Li, Wenhao Chai, Haiyang Xu 0002, Saining Xie |

| 2025 | YOLO-Count: Differentiable Object Counting for Text-to-Image GenerationabstractWe propose YOLO-Count, a differentiable open-vocabulary object counting model that tackles both general counting challenges and enables precise quantity control for text-to-image (T2I) generation. A core contribution is the 'cardinality' map, a novel regression target that accounts for variations in object size and spatial distribution. Leveraging representation alignment and a hybrid strong-weak supervision scheme, YOLO-Count bridges the gap between open-vocabulary counting and T2I generation control. Its fully differentiable architecture facilitates gradient-based optimization, enabling accurate object count estimation and fine-grained guidance for generative models. Extensive experiments demonstrate that YOLO-Count achieves state-of-the-art counting accuracy while providing robust and effective quantity control for T2I systems. | 2025 | OverLayBench: A Benchmark for Layout-to-Image Generation with Dense OverlapsabstractDespite steady progress in layout-to-image generation, current methods still struggle with layouts containing significant overlap between bounding boxes. We identify two primary challenges: (1) large overlapping regions and (2) overlapping instances with minimal semantic distinction. Through both qualitative examples and quantitative analysis, we demonstrate how these factors degrade generation quality. To systematically assess this issue, we introduce OverLayScore, a novel metric that quantifies the complexity of overlapping bounding boxes. Our analysis reveals that existing benchmarks are biased toward simpler cases with low OverLayScore values, limiting their effectiveness in evaluating models under more challenging conditions. To reduce this gap, we present OverLayBench, a new benchmark featuring balanced OverLayScore distributions and high-quality annotations. As an initial step toward improved performance on complex overlaps, we also propose CreatiLayout-AM, a model trained on a curated amodal mask dataset. Together, our contributions establish a foundation for more robust layout-to-image generation under realistic and challenging scenarios. | 2024 | Bayesian Diffusion Models for 3D Shape ReconstructionabstractWe present Bayesian Diffusion Models (BDM), a prediction algorithm that performs effective Bayesian inference by tightly coupling the top-down (prior) information with the bottom-up (data-driven) procedure via joint diffusion processes. We show the effectiveness of BDM on the 3D shape reconstruction task. Compared to prototypical deep learning data-driven approaches trained on paired (super-vised) data-labels (e.g. image-point clouds) datasets, our BDM brings in rich prior information from standalone labels (e.g. point clouds) to improve the bottom-up 3D re-construction. As opposed to the standard Bayesian frame-works where explicit prior and likelihood are required for the inference, BDM performs seamless information fusion via coupled diffusion processes with learned gradient computation networks. The specialty of our BDM lies in its capability to engage the active and effective information exchange and fusion of the top-down and bottom-up processes where each itself is a diffusion process. We demon-strate state-of-the-art results on both synthetic and real-world benchmarks for 3D shape reconstruction. | 2024 | Feature Mixture on Pre-Trained Model for Few-Shot LearningabstractFew-shot learning (FSL) aims at recognizing a novel object under limited training samples. A robust feature extractor (backbone) can significantly improve the recognition performance of the FSL model. However, training an effective backbone is a challenging issue since 1) designing and validating structures of backbones are time-consuming and expensive processes, and 2) a backbone trained on the known (base) categories is more inclined to focus on the textures of the objects it learns, which is hard to describe the novel samples. To solve these problems, we propose a feature mixture operation on the pre-trained (fixed) features: 1) We replace a part of the values of the feature map from a novel category with the content of other feature maps to increase the generalizability and diversity of training samples, which avoids retraining a complex backbone with high computational costs. 2) We use the similarities between the features to constrain the mixture operation, which helps the classifier focus on the representations of the novel object where these representations are hidden in the features from the pre-trained backbone with biased training. Experimental studies on five benchmark datasets in both inductive and transductive settings demonstrate the effectiveness of our feature mixture (FM). Specifically, compared with the baseline on the Mini-ImageNet dataset, it achieves 3.8% and 4.2% accuracy improvements for 1 and 5 training samples, respectively. Additionally, the proposed mixture operation can be used to improve other existing FSL methods based on backbone training. Shuo Wang 0008, Jinda Lu, Haiyang Xu 0002, Yanbin Hao, Xiangnan He 0001 |
