2010 2010 ICSE 2nd International Workshop on Principles of Engineering Service-Oriented Systems (PESOS 2010)
abstract
Service-oriented systems have attracted great interest from industry and research communities worldwide. Service integrators, developers, and providers are collaborating to address the various challenges in the field. PESOS 2010 is a forum for all these communities to present and discuss a wide range of topics related to service-oriented systems. The goal of PESOS was to bring together researchers from academia and industry, as well as practitioners working in the areas of software engineering and service-oriented systems to discuss research challenges, recent developments, novel applications, as well as methods, techniques, experiences, and tools to support the engineering and use of service-oriented systems.

2009 MESOA 2009: 3rd International workshop on maintenance and evolution of service-oriented systems
abstract
The main goal of this workshop is to provide an opportunity for participants to present current work and have a lively discussion of open issues for the maintenance and evolution of service-oriented systems. The dialog will include both short-term research issues such as reengineering processes and long-term issues such as evolution patterns for service-oriented systems.

2008 MESOA 2008: 2nd international workshop on a research agenda for maintenance and evolution of service-oriented systems
The current version of a SOA research agenda will be used as a starting point for discussion.

2007 A Research Agenda for Maintenance & Evolution of SOA-Based Systems
abstract
The main goal of this working session is to provide an opportunity for participants to present current work and have a lively discussion of open issues for the maintenance and evolution of SOA-based systems. The dialog will include both business issues (e.g., organizational changes in the context of migrating to an SOA environment) and technical issues (e.g., analyzing the reuse potential of legacy components in an SOA environment). A draft version of a research agenda will be used as a starting point for obtaining feedback from researchers and practitioners active in this area.

2006 Working Session: Program Comprehension and Migration Strategies for Web Service and Service-Oriented Architectures
abstract
The migration to Web services has the potential of providing significant value to keeping legacy systems and components operational in a networked environment, a number of critical issues still need to be addressed. These issues can be classified in three categories; a) program comprehension and analysis issues; b) legacy system migration issues and; c) technology and standards issues. This paper discusses and debates approaches for addressing these issues. The paper's objective is twofold. First, is to explore the current state of the art in methods, tools and technologies that can assist in carrying out the required work and to identify a taxonomy of current approaches as well as, their strengths and weaknesses. The second objective is to identify open issues and research opportunities in the area of migrating legacy systems in Web enabled environments

2005 DEAS 2005: workshop on the design and evolution of autonomic application software
abstract
Understanding software engineering issues for autonomic computing systems is critical for the software and information technology sectors, which are continually challenged to reduce the complexity of their systems. To be autonomic, a system must know itself as well as its boundaries and its environment, configure and reconfigure itself, continually optimize itself, recover or heal from malfunction, protect itself, and function in a heterogeneous world-while keeping its complexity hidden from the user. The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners, who investigate concepts, methodologies, techniques, technologies, and tools to design and evolve autonomic software.

2004 On the business value and technical challenges of adopting Web services
abstract
Abstract This paper provides a balanced perspective of the business value and technical challenges of adopting Web services. Technology adoption is a continual challenge for both tool developers and enterprise users. Web services are a prime example of an emerging technology that is fraught with adoption issues. Part of the problem is separating marketing hype from business reality. Web services are network‐accessible interfaces to application functionality. They are built using Internet technologies such as XML and standard protocols such as SOAP. The adoption issues related to Web services are complex and multifaceted. For example, determining whether this technology is a fundamental advance, rather than something old under a new name, requires technical depth, business acumen, and considerable historical knowledge of past developments. A sample problem from the health care industry is used to illustrate some of the adoption issues. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

2003 3rd International Workshop on Adoption-centric Software Engineering ACSE 2003
abstract
The key objective of this workshop is to explore innovative approaches to the adoption of software engineering tools and practices-in particular by embedding them in extensions of Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software products and/or middleware technologies. The workshop aims to advance the understanding and evaluation of adoption of software engineering tools and practices by bringing together researchers and practitioners who investigate novel solutions to software engineering adoption issues.
