| 2008 | Voice Call Continuity - A Critical Step Towards All-IP Based Next Generation NetworksabstractThe recent developments in the fixed and mobile telecommunication industry, namely the rapid penetration of broadband access and new charging models in the broadband market in conjunction with the success of wireless local area networks and the general trend of fixed and mobile convergence, are transforming the telecommunication landscape. One of the main challenges is to integrate the fixed and mobile technologies in a way that leverages the strengths of different technologies and improves the service experience for the end user. A crucial step for this transformation is to provide adequate support for users to seamlessly switch between network domains and technologies. The main contribution of this paper is a solution that allows a mobile terminal to change from the mobile radio access to the fixed/cable access provided over a local wireless network or vice versa without disrupting an active ongoing voice call. The implementation of the proposed solution was tested and evaluated in an experimental network with real voice calls. Mischa Schmidt, Bernd Lamparter, Stefan Schmid 0002 |

| 2006 | A Practical Approach to provide Communication PrivacyabstractPrivacy and security are important features for the future mobile wireless Internet since users expect a privacy level comparable to that of today's cellular networks. Separating identifiers from locators is a current practice in today's new network protocols and is a small step on the right direction. However, the separation must be maintained in the presence of an intruder who eavesdrops or manipulates the traffic. In this paper we present a generic framework that targets these problems at the network layer. We further instantiate this framework with an example architecture using well-known protocols which support mobility. Joao Girão, Bernd Lamparter, Marco Liebsch, Telemaco Melia |

| 1995 | XMovie: Architecture and Implementation of a Distributed Movie SystemabstractWe describe a system for storing, transmitting, and presenting digital movies in a computer network. The hardware used in the system is standard hardware, as found in typical workstations today; no special hardware is required, but if available it can be used to provide better performance. The XMovie system has several innovative features. First, it contains a new algorithm for the gradual adaptation of the color lookup table during the presentation of the movie to ensure optimal color quality on low-end workstations. Second, it is a multistandard system supporting the compression techniques MPEG, Motion JPEG, and a newly developed extension to the well-known Color Cell Compression method. Third, it contains AdFEC, a new adaptable forward error correction method for our movie transmission protocol. Ralf Keller, Wolfgang Effelsberg, Bernd Lamparter |
