2010 sORF finder: a program package to identify small open reading frames with high coding potential
abstract
SUMMARY: sORF finder is a program package for identifying small open reading frames (sORFs) with high-coding potential. This application allows the identification of coding sORFs according to the nucleotide composition bias among coding sequences and the potential functional constraint at the amino acid level through evaluation of synonymous and non-synonymous substitution rates. AVAILABILITY: Online tools and source codes are freely available at http://evolver.psc.riken.jp/. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: Supplementary data are available at Bioinformatics online.

2003 Improving sampling rate with multiplexed ultrasonic emitters
abstract
This paper presents a position estimation method for multiple ultrasonic emitters which are activated simultaneously. Locations of ultrasonic emitters are generally calculated from distance data obtained at receivers, but the emitters must be activated one after another to avoid crosstalk. Thus, the sampling rate for each emitter decreases as the number of emitters increases. The authors solved this problem by activating multiple emitters simultaneously and applying a newly developed position estimation algorithm. This paper presents the theoretical analysis and the results of simulations and experiments.

1991 Consideration on Three-Dimensional Visual Communication Systems
abstract
A novel head-tracking technique for a full-color stereoscopic video display system is presented. Using this head-tracking system, the stereoscopic area is increased by a factor of three and stabilized stereoscopic images are observed. Two kinds of large-size rear-projection stereoscopic display systems that do not require special glasses are proposed. Experimental tests, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed systems, are described. By incorporating these techniques into visual communication systems, such as TV telephone systems, video conference systems, or virtual reality systems, a very natural and accurate depth sensation which cannot be obtained by conventional systems that require the viewer to wear special glasses may be possible.>

1989 Stereoscopic images disparity for predictive coding
abstract
In order to create a 3-D system with two images (right and left) that must be transmitted simultaneously, an efficient coding appropriate for stereoscopic images must be developed to reduce the large amount of information contained in the images. As an initial step in realizing such a coding scheme, the statistical characteristics of stereoscopic images and the possibility of stereoscopic image data compression utilizing the cross correlation between the right and left images are considered. The results indicate that data compression is possible by shifting one image horizontally and subtracting it from the corresponding area of the other. Experiments to compare the capability of generating disparity by stereoscopic TV images and human stereoscopic vision have been performed. The results indicate that data compressions without 3-D image deterioration is possible by reducing high-spatial-frequency disparity above 3 cycles/degree. It is concluded that efficient image coding for stereoscopic images can be achieved by utilizing the correlation between two images and human stereopsis characteristics, making possible low-cost, more realistic 3-D visual communication.>

1988 A consideration of automatic acquisition of the shape of a three dimensional object using moire topography
abstract
Algorithms are presented for extracting clear deformed gratings and exact contour lines of an object, along with theoretical analysis and experimental results. The algorithm extracts of the exact contour lines and thins traces and matches of the original and the p/4 phase-shifted moire fringes at the same time, allowing a clear determination of convex and concave parts and their relative order. Experimental results for contour line extraction are shown. Compared with conventional algorithms, the present method shows much improved results.>
