2025 DriveDreamer-2: LLM-Enhanced World Models for Diverse Driving Video Generation
abstract
World models have demonstrated superiority in autonomous driving, particularly in the generation of multi-view driving videos. However, significant challenges still exist in generating customized driving videos. In this paper, we propose DriveDreamer-2, which incorporates a Large Language Model (LLM) to facilitate the creation of user-defined driving videos. Specifically, a trajectory generation function library is developed to produce trajectories that conform to user descriptions. Subsequently, an HDMap generator is designed to learn the mapping from trajectories to road structures. Ultimately, we propose the Unified Multi-View Model (UniMVM) to enhance temporal and spatial coherence in the generated multi-view driving videos. To the best of our knowledge, DriveDreamer-2 is the first world model to generate customized driving videos, and it can generate uncommon driving videos (e.g., vehicles abruptly cut in) in a user-friendly manner. Besides, experimental results demonstrate that the generated videos enhance the training of driving perception methods (e.g., 3D detection and tracking). Furthermore, video generation quality of DriveDreamer-2 surpasses other state-of-the-art methods, showcasing FID and FVD scores of 11.2 and 55.7, representing relative improvements of ~30% and ~50%.

2025 ReconDreamer: Crafting World Models for Driving Scene Reconstruction via Online Restoration
abstract
Closed-loop simulation is crucial for end-to-end autonomous driving. Existing sensor simulation methods (e.g., NeRF and 3DGS) reconstruct driving scenes based on conditions that closely mirror training data distributions. However, these methods struggle with rendering novel trajectory, such as lane changes. Recent works have demonstrated that integrating world model knowledge alleviates these issues. Despite their efficiency, these approaches still encounter difficulties in the accurate representation of more complex maneuvers, with multi-lane shifts being a notable example. Therefore, we introduce ReconDreamer, which enhances driving scene reconstruction through incremental integration of world model knowledge. Specifically, DriveRestorer is proposed to mitigate artifacts via online restoration. This is complemented by a progressive data update strategy designed to ensure high-quality rendering for more complex maneuvers. To the best of our knowledge, ReconDreamer is the first method to effectively render in large maneuvers. Experimental results demonstrate that ReconDreamer outperforms Street Gaussians in the NTA-IoU, NTL-IoU, and FID, with relative improvements by 24.87%, 6.72%, and 29.97%. Furthermore, ReconDreamer surpasses DriveDreamer4D with PVG during large maneuver rendering, as verified by a relative improvement of 195.87% in the NTA-IoU metric and a user study.

2025 HumanDreamer: Generating Controllable Human-Motion Videos via Decoupled Generation
abstract
Human-motion video generation has been a challenging task, primarily due to the difficulty inherent in learning human body movements. While some approaches have attempted to drive human-centric video generation explicitly through pose control, these methods typically rely on poses derived from existing videos, thereby lacking flexibility. To address this, we propose HumanDreamer, a decoupled human video generation framework that first generates diverse poses from text prompts and then leverages these poses to generate human-motion videos. Specifically, we propose MotionVid, the largest dataset for human-motion pose generation. Based on the dataset, we present MotionDiT, which is trained to generate structured human-motion poses from text prompts. Besides, a novel LAMA loss is introduced, which together contribute to a significant improvement in FID by 62.4%, along with respective enhancements in R-precision for top1, top2, and top3 by 41.8%, 26.3%, and 18.3%, thereby advancing both the Text-to-Pose control accuracy and FID metrics. Our experiments across various Pose-to-Video baselines demonstrate that the poses generated by our method can produce diverse and high-quality human-motion videos. Furthermore, our model can facilitate other downstream tasks, such as pose sequence prediction and 2D-3D motion lifting.

2025 DriveDreamer4D: World Models Are Effective Data Machines for 4D Driving Scene Representation
abstract
Closed-loop simulation is essential for advancing end-to-end autonomous driving systems. Contemporary sensor simulation methods, such as NeRF and 3DGS, rely predominantly on conditions closely aligned with training data distributions, which are largely confined to forward-driving scenarios. Consequently, these methods face limitations when rendering complex maneuvers (e.g., lane change, acceleration, deceleration). Recent advancements in autonomous-driving world models have demonstrated the potential to generate diverse driving videos. However, these approaches remain constrained to 2D video generation, inherently lacking the spatiotemporal coherence required to capture intricacies of dynamic driving environments. In this paper, we introduce DriveDreamer4D, which enhances 4D driving scene representation leveraging world model priors. Specifically, we utilize the world model as a data machine to synthesize novel trajectory videos, where structured conditions are explicitly leveraged to control the spatial-temporal consistency of traffic elements. Besides, the cousin data training strategy is proposed to facilitate merging real and synthetic data for optimizing 4DGS. To our knowledge, DriveDreamer4D is the first to utilize video generation models for improving 4D reconstruction in driving scenarios. Experimental results reveal that DriveDreamer4D significantly enhances generation quality under novel trajectory views, achieving a relative improvement in FID by 32.1%, 46.4%, and 16.3% compared to PVG, S3Gaussian, and Deformable-GS. Moreover, DriveDreamer4D markedly enhances the spatiotemporal coherence of driving agents, which is verified by a comprehensive user study and the relative increases of 22.6%, 43.5%, and 15.6% in the NTA-IoU metric.

2025 WonderTurbo: Generating Interactive 3D World in 0.72 Seconds
abstract
Interactive 3D generation is gaining momentum and capturing extensive attention for its potential to create immersive virtual experiences. However, a critical challenge in current 3D generation technologies lies in achieving real-time interactivity. To address this issue, we introduce WonderTurbo, the first real-time interactive 3D scene generation framework capable of generating novel perspectives of 3D scenes within 0.72 seconds. Specifically, WonderTurbo accelerates both geometric and appearance modeling in 3D scene generation. In terms of geometry, we propose StepSplat, an innovative method that constructs efficient 3D geometric representations through dynamic updates, each taking only 0.26 seconds. Additionally, we design QuickDepth, a lightweight depth completion module that provides consistent depth input for StepSplat, further enhancing geometric accuracy. For appearance modeling, we develop FastPaint, a 2-steps diffusion model tailored for instant inpainting, which focuses on maintaining spatial appearance consistency. Experimental results demonstrate that WonderTurbo achieves a remarkable 15X speedup compared to baseline methods, while preserving excellent spatial consistency and delivering high-quality output.

2025 Gait Recognition in the Wild: A Large-Scale Benchmark and NAS-Based Baseline
abstract
Gait benchmarks empower the research community to train and evaluate high-performance gait recognition systems. Even though growing efforts have been devoted to cross-view recognition, academia is restricted by current existing databases captured in the controlled environment. In this paper, we contribute a new benchmark and strong baseline for Gait REcognition in the Wild (GREW). The GREW dataset is constructed from natural videos, which contain hundreds of cameras and thousands of hours of streams in open systems. With tremendous manual annotations, the GREW consists of 26 K identities and 128 K sequences with rich attributes for unconstrained gait recognition. Moreover, we add a distractor set of over 233 K sequences, making it more suitable for real-world applications. Compared with prevailing predefined cross-view datasets, the GREW has diverse and practical view variations, as well as more naturally challenging factors. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first large-scale dataset for gait recognition in the wild. Equipped with this benchmark, we dissect the unconstrained gait recognition problem, where representative appearance-based and model-based methods are explored. The proposed GREW benchmark proves to be essential for both training and evaluating gait recognizers in unconstrained scenarios. In addition, we propose the Single Path One-Shot neural architecture search with uniform sampling for Gait recognition, named SPOSGait, which is the first NAS-based gait recognition model. In experiments, SPOSGait achieves state-of-the-art performance on the CASIA-B, OU-MVLP, Gait3D, and GREW benchmarks, outperforming existing approaches by a large margin.

2023 Crafting Monocular Cues and Velocity Guidance for Self-Supervised Multi-Frame Depth Learning
abstract
Self-supervised monocular methods can efficiently learn depth information of weakly textured surfaces or reflective objects. However, the depth accuracy is limited due to the inherent ambiguity in monocular geometric modeling. In contrast, multi-frame depth estimation methods improve depth accuracy thanks to the success of Multi-View Stereo (MVS), which directly makes use of geometric constraints. Unfortunately, MVS often suffers from texture-less regions, non-Lambertian surfaces, and moving objects, especially in real-world video sequences without known camera motion and depth supervision. Therefore, we propose MOVEDepth, which exploits the MOnocular cues and VElocity guidance to improve multi-frame Depth learning. Unlike existing methods that enforce consistency between MVS depth and monocular depth, MOVEDepth boosts multi-frame depth learning by directly addressing the inherent problems of MVS. The key of our approach is to utilize monocular depth as a geometric priority to construct MVS cost volume, and adjust depth candidates of cost volume under the guidance of predicted camera velocity. We further fuse monocular depth and MVS depth by learning uncertainty in the cost volume, which results in a robust depth estimation against ambiguity in multi-view geometry. Extensive experiments show MOVEDepth achieves state-of-the-art performance: Compared with Monodepth2 and PackNet, our method relatively improves the depth accuracy by 20% and 19.8% on the KITTI benchmark. MOVEDepth also generalizes to the more challenging DDAD benchmark, relatively outperforming ManyDepth by 7.2%. The code is available at https://github.com/JeffWang987/MOVEDepth.

2023 A Simple Baseline for Multi-Camera 3D Object Detection
abstract
3D object detection with surrounding cameras has been a promising direction for autonomous driving. In this paper, we present SimMOD, a Simple baseline for Multi-camera Object Detection, to solve the problem. To incorporate multiview information as well as build upon previous efforts on monocular 3D object detection, the framework is built on sample-wise object proposals and designed to work in a twostage manner. First, we extract multi-scale features and generate the perspective object proposals on each monocular image. Second, the multi-view proposals are aggregated and then iteratively refined with multi-view and multi-scale visual features in the DETR3D-style. The refined proposals are endto-end decoded into the detection results. To further boost the performance, we incorporate the auxiliary branches alongside the proposal generation to enhance the feature learning. Also, we design the methods of target filtering and teacher forcing to promote the consistency of two-stage training. We conduct extensive experiments on the 3D object detection benchmark of nuScenes to demonstrate the effectiveness of SimMOD and achieve competitive performance. 2023 CompletionFormer: Depth Completion with Convolutions and Vision Transformers
abstract
Given sparse depths and the corresponding RGB images, depth completion aims at spatially propagating the sparse measurements throughout the whole image to get a dense depth prediction. Despite the tremendous progress of deep-learning-based depth completion methods, the locality of the convolutional layer or graph model makes it hard for the network to model the long-range relationship between pixels. While recent fully Transformer-based architecture has reported encouraging results with the global receptive field, the performance and efficiency gaps to the well-developed CNN models still exist because of its deteriorative local feature details. This paper proposes a Joint Convolutional Attention and Transformer block (JCAT), which deeply couples the convolutional attention layer and Vision Transformer into one block, as the basic unit to construct our depth completion model in a pyramidal structure. This hybrid architecture naturally benefits both the local connec-tivity of convolutions and the global context of the Trans-former in one single model. As a result, our Completion-Former outperforms state-of-the-art CNNs-based methods on the outdoor KITTI Depth Completion benchmark and indoor NYUv2 dataset, achieving significantly higher effi-ciency (nearly 1/3 FLOPs) compared to pure Transformer-based methods. 2023 Are We Ready for Vision-Centric Driving Streaming Perception? The ASAP Benchmark
abstract
In recent years, vision-centric perception has flourished in various autonomous driving tasks, including 3D detection, semantic map construction, motion forecasting, and depth estimation. Nevertheless, the latency of vision-centric approaches is too high for practical deployment (e.g., most camera-based 3D detectors have a runtime greater than 300ms). To bridge the gap between ideal researches and real-world applications, it is necessary to quantify the trade-off between performance and efficiency. Traditionally, autonomous-driving perception benchmarks perform the offline evaluation, neglecting the inference time delay. To mitigate the problem, we propose the Autonomous-driving StreAming Perception (ASAP) benchmark, which is the first benchmark to evaluate the online performance of vision-centric perception in autonomous driving. On the basis of the 2Hz annotated nuScenes dataset, we first propose an annotation-extending pipeline to generate high-frame-rate labels for the 12Hz raw images. Referring to the practical deployment, the Streaming Perception Under constRained-computation (SPUR) evaluation protocol is further constructed, where the 12Hz inputs are utilized for streaming evaluation under the constraints of different computational resources. In the ASAP benchmark, comprehensive experiment results reveal that the model rank alters under different constraints, suggesting that the model latency and computation budget should be considered as design choices to optimize the practical deployment. To facilitate further research, we establish baselines for camera-based streaming 3D detection, which consistently enhance the streaming performance across various hardware. 2023 Efficient and Hybrid Decoder for Local Map Construction in Bird'-Eye-View
abstract
High-definition maps are crucial perception elements for autonomous robot navigation systems, which can provide accurate scene layout and environment information for downstream motion prediction and planning control tasks. Traditional methods based on manual annotation or SLAM algorithms require massive labor efforts and time costs, which hinders the deployment of practical applications. Online construction of local maps from on-board cameras offers an alternative solution. Aiming at the problems of unsatisfying precision and redundant computation of HDMapNet, we propose an efficient and hybrid decoder (EHD) that consists of a CNN-based segmentation (Seg) head and a query-based lane detection head (QLD). Specifically, the Seg head outputs pixel-level semantic maps, and QLD predicts instance mask for each lane object through learnable query embeddings. The designed decoding method eliminates the cumulative error caused by inaccurate semantic maps and does not require additional clustering algorithm for post-processing. Through combining with a variety of bird's-eye-view (BEV) encoders, the effectiveness and efficiency of our EHD is demonstrated by extensive experiments. For segmentation task, the mIoU scores of semantic map can be improved by 1.3%∼2.9%. Additionally, the accuracy of lane detection is also significantly increased (more than 10.2% mAP) under all evaluation criteria. Since our method discards redundant post-processing, the inference speed is up to 22.71 FPS, which is 32 times faster than HDMapNet.

2023 HFT: Lifting Perspective Representations via Hybrid Feature Transformation for BEV Perception
abstract
Restoring an accurate Bird's Eye View (BEV) map plays a crucial role in the perception of autonomous driving. The existing works of lifting representations from frontal view to BEV can be classified into two categories, i.e., Camera model-Based Feature Transformation (CBFT) and Camera model-Free Feature Transformation (CFFT). We empirically analyze the significant differences between CBFT and CFFT. The former method lift perspective features based on the flat- world assumption, which often causes distortion of regions lying above the ground plane. The latter method is limited in the perception performance due to the absence of geometric priors and time-consuming computing. In this paper, we propose a novel framework with a Hybrid Feature Transformation module (HFT) to lift perspective representations. Furthermore, we design a mutual learning scheme to augment hybrid transformation. The deformable attention mechanism enables the model to pay more attention to relevant regions and capture features with more semantics. We illustrate the effectiveness of HFT in BEV perception tasks, such as segmentation and object detection. Notably, in the task of semantic segmentation, extensive experiments demonstrate that HFT outperforms the previous state-of-the-art method by relatively 17.9% on the Argoverse and 22.0% on the KITTI 3D Object dataset. With negligible computing budget, HFT outperforms existing image- based methods on 3D object detection. The code will be released soon.

abstract
Face benchmarks empower the research community to train and evaluate high-performance face recognition systems. In this paper, we contribute a new million-scale recognition benchmark, containing uncurated 4M identities/260M faces (WebFace260M) and cleaned 2M identities/42M faces (WebFace42M) training data, as well as an elaborately designed time-constrained evaluation protocol. First, we collect 4M name lists and download 260M faces from the Internet. Then, a Cleaning Automatically utilizing Self-Training (CAST) pipeline is devised to purify the tremendous WebFace260M, which is efficient and scalable. To the best of our knowledge, the cleaned WebFace42M is the largest public face recognition training set and we expect to close the data gap between academia and industry. Referring to practical deployments, Face Recognition Under Inference Time conStraint (FRUITS) protocol and a new test set with rich attributes are constructed. Besides, we gather a large-scale masked face sub-set for biometrics assessment under COVID-19. For a comprehensive evaluation of face matchers, three recognition tasks are performed under standard, masked and unbiased settings, respectively. Equipped with this benchmark, we delve into million-scale face recognition problems. A distributed framework is developed to train face recognition models efficiently without tampering with the performance. Enabled by WebFace42M, we reduce 40% failure rate on the challenging IJB-C set and rank 3rd among 430 entries on NIST-FRVT. 2022 MonoViT: Self-Supervised Monocular Depth Estimation with a Vision Transformer
abstract
Self-supervised monocular depth estimation is an attractive solution that does not require hard-to-source depth la-bels for training. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have recently achieved great success in this task. However, their limited receptive field constrains existing network architectures to reason only locally, dampening the effectiveness of the self-supervised paradigm. In the light of the recent successes achieved by Vision Transformers (ViTs), we propose MonoViT, a brand-new framework combining the global reasoning enabled by ViT models with the flexibility of self-supervised monocular depth estimation. By combining plain convolutions with Transformer blocks, our model can reason locally and globally, yielding depth prediction at a higher level of detail and accuracy, allowing MonoViT to achieve state-of-the-art performance on the established KITTI dataset. Moreover, MonoViT proves its superior generalization capacities on other datasets such as Make3D and DrivingStereo. Source code available at https://github.com/zxcqlf/MonoViT

2022 DenseCLIP: Language-Guided Dense Prediction with Context-Aware Prompting
abstract
Recent progress has shown that large-scale pre-training using contrastive image-text pairs can be a promising alternative for high-quality visual representation learning from natural language supervision. Benefiting from a broader source of supervision, this new paradigm exhibits impressive transferability to downstream classification tasks and datasets. However, the problem of transferring the knowledge learned from image-text pairs to more complex dense prediction tasks has barely been visited. In this work, we present a new framework for dense prediction by implicitly and explicitly leveraging the pre-trained knowledge from CLIP. Specifically, we convert the original image-text matching problem in CLIP to a pixel-text matching problem and use the pixel-text score maps to guide the learning of dense prediction models. By further using the contextual information from the image to prompt the language model, we are able to facilitate our model to better exploit the pretrained knowledge. Our method is model-agnostic, which can be applied to arbitrary dense prediction systems and various pre-trained visual backbones including both CLIP models and ImageNet pre-trained models. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superior performance of our methods on semantic segmentation, object detection, and instance segmentation tasks. 2022 CAFE: Learning to Condense Dataset by Aligning Features
abstract
Dataset condensation aims at reducing the network training effort through condensing a cumbersome training set into a compact synthetic one. State-of-the-art approaches largely rely on learning the synthetic data by matching the gradients between the real and synthetic data batches. Despite the intuitive motivation and promising results, such gradient-based methods, by nature, easily overfit to a biased set of samples that produce dominant gradients, and thus lack a global supervision of data distribution. In this paper, we propose a novel scheme to Condense dataset by Aligning FEatures (CAFE), which explicitly attempts to preserve the real-feature distribution as well as the discriminant power of the resulting synthetic set, lending itself to strong generalization capability to various architectures. At the heart of our approach is an effective strategy to align features from the real and synthetic data across various scales, while accounting for the classification of real samples. Our scheme is further backed up by a novel dynamic bi-level optimization, which adaptively adjusts parameter updates to prevent over-/under-fitting. We validate the proposed CAFE across various datasets, and demonstrate that it generally outperforms the state of the art: on the SVHN dataset, for example, the performance gain is up to 11%. Extensive experiments and analysis verify the effectiveness and necessity of proposed designs.

2022 Dimension Embeddings for Monocular 3D Object Detection
abstract
Most existing deep learning-based approaches for monocular 3D object detection directly regress the dimensions of objects and overlook their importance in solving the illposed problem. In this paper, we propose a general method to learn appropriate embeddings for dimension estimation in monocular 3D object detection. Specifically, we consider two intuitive clues in learning the dimension-aware embeddings with deep neural networks. First, we constrain the pair-wise distance on the embedding space to reflect the similarity of corresponding dimensions so that the model can take advantage of inter-object information to learn more discriminative embeddings for dimension estimation. Second, we propose to learn representative shape templates on the dimension-aware embedding space. Through the attention mechanism, each object can interact with the learnable templates and obtain the attentive dimensions as the initial estimation, which is further refined by the combined features from both the object and the attentive templates. Experimental results on the well-established KITTI dataset demonstrate the proposed method of dimension embeddings can bring consistent improvements with negligible computation cost overhead. We achieve new state-of-the-art performance on the KITTI 3D object detection benchmark.

2021 SIMPLE: SIngle-network with Mimicking and Point Learning for Bottom-up Human Pose Estimation
abstract
The practical application requests both accuracy and efficiency on multi-person pose estimation algorithms. But the high accuracy and fast inference speed are dominated by top-down methods and bottom-up methods respectively. To make a better trade-off between accuracy and efficiency, we propose a novel multi-person pose estimation framework, SIngle-network with Mimicking and Point Learning for Bottom-up Human Pose Estimation (SIMPLE). Specifically, in the training process, we enable SIMPLE to mimic the pose knowledge from the high-performance top-down pipeline, which significantly promotes SIMPLE's accuracy while maintaining its high efficiency during inference. Besides, SIMPLE formulates human detection and pose estimation as a unified point learning framework to complement each other in single-network. This is quite different from previous works where the two tasks may interfere with each other. To the best of our knowledge, both mimicking strategy between different method types and unified point learning are firstly proposed in pose estimation. In experiments, our approach achieves the new state-of-the-art performance among bottom-up methods on the COCO, MPII and PoseTrack datasets. Compared with the top-down approaches, SIMPLE has comparable accuracy and faster inference speed.

2021 Structure-Aware Face Clustering on a Large-Scale Graph With 107 Nodes
abstract
Face clustering is a promising method for annotating un-labeled face images. Recent supervised approaches have boosted the face clustering accuracy greatly, however their performance is still far from satisfactory. These methods can be roughly divided into global-based and local-based ones. Global-based methods suffer from the limitation of training data scale, while local-based ones are difficult to grasp the whole graph structure information and usually take a long time for inference. Previous approaches fail to tackle these two challenges simultaneously. To address the dilemma of large-scale training and efficient inference, we propose the STructure-AwaRe Face Clustering (STAR-FC) method. Specifically, we design a structure-preserved subgraph sampling strategy to explore the power of large-scale training data, which can increase the training data scale from 105to 107. During inference, the STAR-FC performs efficient full-graph clustering with two steps: graph parsing and graph refinement. And the concept of node intimacy is introduced in the second step to mine the local structural information. The STAR-FC gets 91.97 pairwise F-score on partial MS1M within 310s which surpasses the state-of-the-arts. Furthermore, we are the first to train on very large-scale graph with 20M nodes, and achieve superior inference results on 12M testing data. Overall, as a simple and effective method, the proposed STAR-FC provides a strong baseline for large-scale face clustering. Code is available at https://sstzal.github.io/STAR-FC/.

2020 The Devil Is in the Details: Delving Into Unbiased Data Processing for Human Pose Estimation
abstract
Recently, the leading performance of human pose estimation is dominated by top-down methods. Being a fundamental component in training and inference, data processing has not been systematically considered in pose estimation community, to the best of our knowledge. In this paper, we focus on this problem and find that the devil of top-down pose estimator is in the biased data processing. Specifically, by investigating the standard data processing in state-of-the-art approaches mainly including data transformation and encoding-decoding, we find that the results obtained by common flipping strategy are unaligned with the original ones in inference. Moreover, there is statistical error in standard encoding-decoding during both training and inference. Two problems couple together and significantly degrade the pose estimation performance. Based on quantitative analyses, we then formulate a principled way to tackle this dilemma. Data is processed in continuous space based on unit length (the intervals between pixels) instead of in discrete space with pixel, and a combined classification and regression approach is adopted to perform encoding-decoding. The Unbiased Data Processing (UDP) for human pose estimation can be achieved by combining the two together. UDP not only boosts the performance of existing methods by a large margin but also plays a important role in result reproducing and future exploration. As a model-agnostic approach, UDP promotes SimpleBaseline-ResNet50-256x192 by 1.5 AP (70.2 to 71.7) and HRNet-W32-256x192 by 1.7 AP (73.5 to 75.2) on COCO test-dev set. The HRNet-W48-384x288 equipped with UDP achieves 76.5 AP and sets a new state-of-the-art for human pose estimation. The source code is publicly available for further research.

2020 Improve Person Re-Identification With Part Awareness Learning
abstract
Person re-identification (ReID) aims to predict whether two images from different cameras belong to the same person. Due to low image quality and variance in view point and body pose, it remains a difficult task. To solve the task, a model is supposed to appropriately capture features that describe body regions for identification. With the simple intuition that explicitly incorporating ReID model with part awareness could be beneficial for learning a more discriminative feature space, we propose part segmentation as an assistant body perception task during the training of a ReID model. Specifically, we add a lightweight segmentation head to the backbone of ReID model during training, which is supervised with part labels. Note that our segmentation head is only introduced during training and that it does not change network input or the way of extracting ReID feature. Experiments show that part segmentation considerably improves the performance of ReID. Through quantitative and qualitative analyses, we further reveal that body part perception helps ReID model to capture a set of more diverse features from the body, with decreased similarity between part features and increased focus on different body regions. We experiment with various representative ReID models and achieve consistent improvement on several large-scale datasets including Market1501, CUHK03, DukeMTMC-reID and MSMT17. E.g. on MSMT17, our method increases Rank-1 Accuracy of GlobalPool-ResNet-50, PCB and MGN by 2.3%, 2.9% and 3.9%, respectively. Incorporated with MGN, our model achieves state-of-the-art performance, with Rank-1 Accuracy 95.8%, 78.8%, 90.0% and 84.0% on four datasets, respectively.

2019 Attention-Guided Unified Network for Panoptic Segmentation
abstract
This paper studies panoptic segmentation, a recently proposed task which segments foreground (FG) objects at the instance level as well as background (BG) contents at the semantic level. Existing methods mostly dealt with these two problems separately, but in this paper, we reveal the underlying relationship between them, in particular, FG objects provide complementary cues to assist BG understanding. Our approach, named the Attention-guided Unified Network (AUNet), is a unified framework with two branches for FG and BG segmentation simultaneously. Two sources of attentions are added to the BG branch, namely, RPN and FG segmentation mask to provide object-level and pixel-level attentions, respectively. Our approach is generalized to different backbones with consistent accuracy gain in both FG and BG segmentation, and also sets new state-of-the-arts both in the MS-COCO (46.5% PQ) and Cityscapes (59.0% PQ) benchmarks.

2019 Action Machine: Toward Person-Centric Action Recognition in Videos
abstract
Existing RGB and CNN-based methods in video action recognition mostly do not distinguish human body from the environment, thus easily overfit the scenes and objects of training sets. In this work, we present a conceptually simple, general and high-performance framework for action recognition in videos, aiming at person-centric modeling. The method, called Action Machine, is based on person bounding boxes for instance-level action analysis. It extends the Inflated 3D ConvNet (I3D) by adding a branch for human pose estimation and a 2D CNN for pose-based action recognition. Action Machine can benefit from the multi-task training of action recognition and pose estimation, the fusion of predictions from RGB images and poses. Experiments results are provided on trimmed video action datasets, NTU RGB+D, Northwestern UCLA Multiview Action3D, MSR Daily Activity3D. Action Machine achieves superior performance and generalizes well across datasets.
